  Any Buckeye's Here

  for those who don't know what a buckeye is, it is the state tree of ohio.

  it also grows in michigan, but most michiganders try to kill them off and burn them at ohio state - michigan football games when ohio state loses.

  the buckey tree produces brown fruit that look like a chestnut, except they are poisonous.

  OK, Lindy and MommieD, you can be queens of the north and south, but I get to be Queen of the North Coast!!!

  I live just west of Downtown Cleveland, although I grew up smack dab in the hole that is right between Akron & Canton.

  I knew a JW family from Wadsworth, almost killed a Witness girl from there for screwing around with my ex husband. (Oh yeah, he was a REAL catch... [8>]) she was bit-time S.O.T.U. (Slut Of The Universe)... e-mail me and I'll see if you know her!

  I'd love to do an X-Dub-meet & greet, wouldn't mind a couple of hour drive to get together with you...

  The Casket Under the Coat Rack........

  one of the craziest things i ever witnessed as a jw was a funeral for an unbaptized publisher...she attended my cong.

  and was very quiet and softspoken...the type who never caused any trouble and who would ocassionaly comment, directly from the paragraph....nice lady with a young daughter about 11. well one day she's driving down the road and gets hit by a pepsi truck....(can anyone say lawsuit???

  ) she's hospitalized and is in critical condition....to make a long story short...she's faced with the blood issue and finally gives in and accepts a transfusion and dies anyway...ok let's fastforward...no one apparently knew about this except her mother....a non-jw who had studied off and on for years and years.....so the obituary appears and it's public knowledge that her funeral will be at such and such kingdom hall at such and such time....actually published info...well, she had tons of non-jw family...typical of us black folk...anyway let me get to the point....apparently the day of the funeral, just some hours before in fact....the elders find out about the blood and don't want to have the funeral in the kingdom hall....but what are they to do????

  My family has always had this big thing about having full-fledged funerals, showing the body in the casket, blah blah blah...

  When my granny died 4 1/2 years ago, my uncle gave the "funeral talk." He barely knew her, never respected her in life, and gave the most moronic funeral talk I've ever heard. He went on and on about her smile, the way she talked to people... it was such bullshit. I wanted to get up and say, "she wasn't like that at all, but you wouldn't know the difference, because you never spent any time with her!" To this day, I regret not standing up to say something.

  Once again, it was a poor excuse for a "Witnessing opportunity" for all of the "unbelieving" family that was there.

  My husband (we were just newly dating at the time) thought it was the most awful, poor-excuse-for-a-eulogy-piece-of-trash he'd ever heard.

  while browsing through the latest "tower" mag i came accross a article about france and how the authorities are giving the dubs trouble and not giving them tax exempt status.. what do they do?

  do the remember the ole "pay ceasars things to ceasar and gods things to god" rule?.

  Reagan O'Connor is my nom de plume. I've done some freelance writing, both fiction and non-fiction, and prefer to use it.

  The origins of both names are from literature [surprise!]. Regan is one of the evil daughters in Shakespeare's "King Lear." She conspires to strip her father of his power, murders the servant who kills her husband, vies with her sister for the affections of another man with her husband's body barely cold in the grave, and is poisoned by her own sister in a fit of jealousy.

  I changed the spelling a bit to Reagan.

  O'Connor is from the great American author Flannery O'Connor.

  Both names are representative of my Irish heritage, with a bit of a nod to U.S. President Ronald Reagan.

  dear abby:.

  last year, our family went through the most traumatic experience of our lives: we left the church we'd been attending for more than a decade.. i always suspected our church was a little "unusual," but because i saw what appeared to be positive changes in people's lives, i kept telling myself we couldn't possibly be involved in a "cult.".

  my family and i were led to believe we were members of a "special" group - that we had a "different" calling than other churches, which was why we had to work harder and sacrifice more than the average christian.

  Ha, Zev & Simon: I'm in the same boat. Since I fix PCs for a living (hardware & software) family & "friends" always call at the most moronic, inconvenient time, wanting me to fix stuff... you guessed it, "over the phone."

  Dana, I know what you mean about people who expect kids to be little adults. (They're KIDS!) I can't stand my neighbors because they're bad parents. It isn't the kids' fault, I actually feel sorry for them. They're the victims. (But they're still evil!!

  Simon, I completely agree! I wouldn't ask a mechanic to "come over to the house and take a look at the truck" or, better yet, "can you walk me through fixing it over the phone?" GIMME A BREAK! OK, my blood pressure is rising just thinking about this...

  I like saying that it appears to be an ID10-T (idiot)error. Some get it, some don't.

  There's one man who calls and invites me & hubby over for "dinner" (which turns out to be leftover cardboard pizza, if the dogs don't get ahold of it first) and then wants me to "take a look at the PC." First off, he bought a Gateway with "gold support" but doesn't like waiting on the phone for a tech person. He's paying Gateway, but I get cold nasty pizza. Invariably, one of his stepkids has changed BIOS settings or uninstalled a system file or some game-related madness and I must work for hours to fix it, while everyone else goes into the spa to drink and be merry.

  I've started telling people that I charge $100 an hour to do consulting. I do fix my sister-in-law's PC for free, but they always feed us a good dinner (and they make their own wine!!) and she home-schools her kids, so money is tight. And they're family, which is different.

  How do I?

  i was baptized 5 years ago and inactive for the past 4... i've been married for almost 5 years to a caring man that was raised as a jw.

  he's been inactive most his life :) he hates all other forms of religion and tends to be anti-social because everyone is "worldly".

  i don't want my child to grow up as a jw.

  Here's a question for you:

  When someone asks you what religion you are, how do you respond?

  How does your husband respond?

  For 2 years after I drifted away, when someone asked me, my response was "I'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses." Even though I hadn't attended, hadn't even gotten a Watchtower or cracked open the New World Translation, and really didn't believe the stuff they taught, I still called myself a JW.

  When I started doing research about the Society, and it became apparent to me what the WTBS was *really* about, I responded differently when people asked.

  Now I say, "I'm a Christian." If pressed, I explain that I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness, but I'm a Christian now.

  I found that this helped in my "deprogramming" and enabled me to open up to celebrating holidays and the like. Check out Randy Watters' Web site at http://www.freeminds.org and maybe you might find some helpful information there.

  It's already the end of July; start working on your husband now, and you just might get to celebrate Christmas as a family this year!

  * People who have one tail light out or blinker not working. (I hate this so much, I will change lanes and drive behind a muthafrugga <thanks, Spartacus> rather than continue on.)

  * People who change lanes without signalling.

  * See Spartacus' rant below.

  * Neighbors who allow their obnoxious spawn to ride through my yard on their bikes, chasing my dog, calling me by my first name, refusing to move from the end of my driveway when I'm trying to pull my car out... <I HATE my neighbors and the evil that is their children>

  * People who let their dogs crap on the treelawn/trail/park and then don't clean up after them.

  * People who don't walk/exercise their dogs.

  * People who litter.

  * People who don't recycle, and argue with you as to why <as if there is a logical argument for not recycling>.

  * People who breed and then hand their children off to grandparents/day cares to raise.

  * Worthless public school systems that try to pass levies <good money after bad? I don't think so>

  * People who can't read.

  * People who lose all grasp of common sense when it comes to computers, and then blame YOU when the problem is obviously their overwhelming stupidity.

  OK. I think I'm better now...

  I was dfed a week before my wedding (for something not "porneia" related), and the only way to keep them from announcing it was to appeal, so I wasn't announced until a month after my wedding.

  The appeal committee is bullshit. I don't know of a single committee that has overturned the original JC's decision. But I've been gone for a while...

  I got reinstated and then walked away.

  frederick w. franz: main translator.

  took liberal arts sequence at university of cincinnati; 21 semester hours of classical greek, some latin.
