I can only see two purposes for this article: to guilt trip people who are doubting to stay in the organization, and to reorient their attention towards the 'carrot': paradise earth.

God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites - What does the bible REALLY teach?
by irondork inthat is why god gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites, for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature;and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males, working what is obscene and receiving in themselves the full recompense, which was due for their error.
romans 1:26,27.
(excerpts from: homosexianity by r. d. weekly for the sake of familiarity, scripture quotations appearing in the book were replaced with the new world translation) http://www.amazon.com/homosexianity-letting-devastating-scripture-orientation/dp/1442163062/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=utf8&qid=1356175321&sr=1-1&keywords=homosexianity.

There's a lot of ignorance in this thread. First of all, I've stopped believing in the bible, so I don't care if homosexuality is condemned or not, but I certainly appreciate irondork's posts... I've been saving every one of them.
'The gay lifestyle is a lot more promiscuous and depraved'... this is a very tired argument and couldn't be further from the truth. The amount of sex that goes on in your typical straight guy's world is about the same for a typical gay guy. This argument just attempts to associate the entire gay community with one subset. Also, being gay is only as much of a lifestyle as being straight is. It's just a sexual orientation... one facet of one's life.
'Effeminate, in your face, etc.' - also another tired argument. My parents don't know I'm gay, and all my friends do. I don't act any differently with my friends than I do with my parents. And yet my parents don't have a clue. Many other people that I know don't know I'm gay. So much for the 'in your face' part. I'm not effeminate either... not because I don't want to be, but it's just not the way I naturally am. How many people do you interact with everyday? Do you know which ones are gay and which aren't? You don't, but you probably have an idea... most likely based on stereotypes created by ignorant people like yourselves. And I bet those whom you think are gay aren't gay at all. I say this from experience.

The sin of Sodom and Gomorrah- What does the bible REALLY teach?
by irondork inas with most doctrines, the belief that the bible condemns homosexuality is multi-layered and allegedly supported by several scriptures.
when he raised his eyes he got to see the man, the traveler, in the public square of the city.
let me bring them out, please, and you rape them and do to them what is good in your eyes.

The irony and hypocrisy in this article was so much, it hurt...
One of the highlights for me was when the guys in the concentration camp had a bible, and it wasn't enough... they needed a WT publication. So disgusting.

I'm glad too. I hate close calls... I don't want to be exposed like that until I'm ready. But your situation is potentially much worse than mine.

I let my mom use my laptop to make a call while we were overseas, and I completely forgot if I was on JWN earlier and left it open. I think my heart could have powered our entire hotel room... that's how nervous I was. Fortunately, if she read any of the comments, they either weren't saying anything that would raise a red flag, or she's harbouring those thoughts to use as ammunition later on. This was about 4 months ago though, so I doubt that the latter is the case.

"newbie" post - after eight years registered
by pajaha inactually, this is my second post as i replied to a thread a few moments ago, but it turns out i originally registered eight years ago but had never posted.. i left in 2000 (from a newport, s wales, congregation) having been brought up in it from about the age of three.
initially, i was obsessed with research and posting to forums but got over it after a few years and just rediscovered this site a couple of days ago.
i just thought it would be worth posting my account of leaving in case it helped others.. i always considered myself to be "strong in the truth" and genuinely believed it,, but i suppose the amount of suppressed doubts had been mounting up and i think it was the summer of 1999 when i first thought of leaving.

As it turned it, though, eventually both parents came out of it too, I believe mainly after many discussions with me after I'd left. Never underestimate the power of family ties. It is sometimes stronger than religious beliefs. They knew I wasn't daft and they were prepared to listen to what I had to say.
That is very encouraging. I'm not out yet, but I've already starting discussing a few things with my parents...legimitate topics so that they will never forget my points about it, but subtle enough so that the apostate shields aren't triggered. I hope that when I leave and inform them why I'm leaving (if they'll bother to listen) that they'll consider my problems and hopefully leave too.

September 15 2012 quote.
by DATA-DOG indoes anyone know what wt article the following quote came from?
i am interested in the context of the article, and as usual there is no source mentioned for the rank-and-file to check.. " brethren, those of us who are in the right attitude toward god are not disappointed at any of his arrangements.
we did not wish our own will to be done; so when we found out that we were expecting the wrong thing in october 1914, then we were glad that the lord did not change his plan to suit us.

Like someone else mentioned in another thread, they may not claim to be inspired, but they do claim to be "spirit-directed". Is there a difference? Not to me. If anything, "spirit-directed" means more than "spirit-inspired".

The teaching of the generation that would not pass away was part of the preaching work. I don't think that it could be separated from the preaching work that I was engaged in as a pioneer in the 70's. The teaching then about the time limit of a generation has changed.
Therefore I don't think God required me to preach this message in the 1970's.
This is one of my biggest problems with JWs. I brought this up to my parents, but I was shot down hard. Now I'm seen as someone who's doubting the organization.
When they say "never discuss doctrine with a cult member", they mean it, no matter how subtle the question may be!

"Everything dies. Even planets and stars."
Of course a common JW response would be that the original sin "spread" to the planets and stars, as it did for the animals and plants. I'm sure.
