What was the biggest lie that you have ever told any JWs while you were still a JW?

i was deleted as ms some years ago, a brother thought i became an elder.

at the circuit assembly, he asked me if i am elder now, i said yes so the brother told me all of the gritty details about his wife and her sister that got disfellowshipped at the same time.

they went out with the worldly guys and they both got pregnant.

Lies I've told my parents:

Nothing is troubling me...I am still just as enthused about "the truth" as I have always been.
I no longer masturbate.
I missed my #3 talk because my bus was late.
I'm not leading a double life.
I've never been to the local clothing-optional beach.
I have no secrets I'm hiding from them. (Honestly? Who doesn't have secrets they hide from others?)
I wasn't shocked or troubled when I discovered that the number of anointed is rising.
I only research using the WT library.
I stay up late because I'm studying the bible.
No that wasn't porn you saw on the screen a few seconds ago, that was pictures of people with rashes. I need it for a project I'm doing.
I already closed it because I found what I needed.
I've never seen porn intentionally.
I would never leave "the truth".
Of course I'm proud to be a JW.
Yes I read the magazines...just because you don't see me reading them, doesn't mean I don't.
Yes I talk to others about "the truth" at school. Most of them aren't interested though.
Of course it bothers me if I haven't gone out in field service in a while.
Yes I did do the daily text.
Yes I read the weekly bible reading.
Of course I want to go do your study with you (although sometimes this is true if I desperately want to get out of the sun).
No field service isn't becoming a "routine" for me, I only go out on weekends because that's the only time I can. If I could go out more I would.
I know that I don't know anyone from other states.
I would never marry a "wordly" person.
No I'm not using my bike as an excuse to get out of the house.
I've never watched porn on my phone.
I don't talk to any "wordly" people on the phone unless I have to, especially if it's for school.
Of course I pay attention to the program while in the debit card office during assembly.

Lies I've told others:

I want to become a bethelite.
I want to serve my congregation (as an MS/elder).
I might become a pioneer when I graduate (from college).
I actually do have spiritual goals.
I love pioneering.
I love field service.
I would love to visit bethel again (at the time I didn't know I was lying).
I won't be able to make it for my #3 talk.
Of course I want to go do your study with you.

12/15/12 Watchower Study Edition - Higher Eduction = Thinking in a "complicated" manner

i found this quote from the 12/15/12 p.29 study edition of the watchtower to be hilarious:.

"a college graduate in the united states.

says: i spent 18 years speaking and writing.

When the time comes for this study to be done in the Kingdom Hall, I got the idea of reading the full quote as a comment and explaining the true meaning. But at the same time I might be escorted out of the kingdom hall for trying to change what the GB is intending to convey.

my elder buddy and i would frequent strip clubs when we wanted to.. a few friends knew i enjoyed clubbing and music concerts and i seldom ever spoke of my private social life to others.. i know many jws, including elders, that drank excessively but that wasn't considered too big a deal..

For me, most of it was after I learned TTATT. I didn't feel restricted any more to do the things I wanted. I still have an aversion against things like getting drunk, doing drugs, and smoking. I won't even get a tattoo. I love my body as it is too much to modify or harm it in anyway. And of course I'm not gonna do anything illegal to get me in jail.

Comment from a sister: is it freedom if you're constantly told how to think, act, and dress? (Referring to the 'peer pressure' that one may experience in the world).

I couldn't believe my ears. Did she hear what she was saying? If there's any place where people are told how to do things, it's in the org. And peer pressure is far greater in the org than outside of it, in my experience. There's a constant fear of thinking what the others will think of oneself. That's not freedom.

Flee from "Old Light"!

some witnesses fail to realize that "old light" is far more dangerous than any apostate writing.

i saw evidence of this when i reviewed "rutherford's rainbow" on amazon.com and mentioned that witnesses were discouraged from reading the old literature.

many witnesses responded that i was lying as they'd never been told this, and in fact had old literature on their shelves (which witnesses evidently equate with having read a book [e.g., see here where a witness justifies her ability to review the finished mystery without ever having read it by saying "i have it on my cd".]).

This is so true. It's exactly what got me in "trouble" - for example I couldn't figure out how the WT could use Matthew 24:36 as a basis to single out 1975 as a special year, and then afterwards use the same verse to say that it's impossible to know when, and then guilt the r&f who believed the WT-induced 1975 hype.
