most of us think that slavery is a thing of the past, after what i watched on real sports this morning i just about puked!
the reason apparently "we" do not ?do?
anything is because of the sheiks and agreements the us has with the government.
Good god!! Why doesn't the United Nations get involved in that and do something about it?? Islamic slimeballs...........
Mary,
Apparently the US has agreements with the Shieks and all the oil money, etc. The Amassador John Miller, from the State Department acted all outraged, stating they needed "photo" evidence, that they were fooled, etc. There was evidence but they did not act. The UN has no back bone to handle this either. There was a man in the story who has really tried to help. He has taken kids in the night away from these places and put them in shelters. The conditions I saw had me in tears.
These kids they shown had scars, malnutrition, etc. They were raped by the "trainers", they were maimed by them and at times, by the camels. One child was sent home in a box, another was in the hospital with stitches up and down his stomach. A camel stepped on him splitting his stomach open.
Because the Shieks own many of the racing areas they turn a blinded eye because this is the Royal Family of Saudi, etc. Corruption is all through out. These people know there will be only weak actions taken for these crimes. Because the Camels are worth Millions of Dollars, they have an entire palace. Which is outrageous to me, considering human life is more valuable to me.

Camel racing, the oldest and most venerated sport in the , is a draw for some of the region's wealthiest sheiks, whose stables compete for grandiose prizes. Hidden behind lavish spectacles, however, is a disturbing reality. The tiny jockeys who compete in these races are victims of a horrible slave trade, all young boys who have been kidnapped or sold into slavery as mere infants. In addition to enduring inhumane living conditions and beatings, the boys are intentionally starved to keep their weight down. Weak from undernourishment, some are maimed or killed while trying to pilot the 1500-pound camels. Using hidden cameras, REAL SPORTS travels to the United Arab Emirates for a special expanded report on the perilous lives of camel jockeys and the pitiless human traffickers that exploit them (in all ways possible). Correspondent Bernard Goldberg interviews John Miller, a State Department ambassador at large, to determine whether the government is doing enough to stop the practice in this tense political climate.

Under74 and Geoff: Apologies accepted. I understand both feelings, but there is a much better way to handle this than attacking. Never feel the need to excuse your feelings you have the right to them. But please keep in mind that just as you feel and so do others. I just did not appreciate this blind side attack~ off topic. I can see that it put Under on defensive and rightly so. But, if Geoff wishes to continue, on another thread then he may do so, just understand for every action there is a consequence. IT is your choice for it to be positive or negative.

Come on, under74, and try to be decent.....and truthful. You must have hatred in your heart to be so awful about 'typical jw elders,' I wish you would name names including your own and substantiate such a horrible sweep of up to 300,000 at least elders all answerable. Waiting for your public testimony to come out. gdt.
First of all, gdt (or what ever your name) I do not appreciate you coming to the thread attacking someone as being untruthful or not being decent. When Under74 is expressing the feelings she/he has had from an apparent experience. I know that she doesn't have to justify her feelings to you. If you have some thing to add to this subject please do. Other wise your attack is off topic. The topic (to remind you) is of the case above. It has to do with spiritual abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and use of a position to abuse.
Now tell me where does your post address any of these subjects ? It is addressing Under74 on another subject. If it is about a case or issue please start your own thread to address it.
But be warned attacking someone like this isn't well tolerated.
Under74 you are welcome, I know that this type of abuse does happen and unfortunately it is an abuse of an position held. There should be some monitoring when someone is in that position. I don't feel
that there is much of it, if any.
Sincerely,
X.
to bring you up to speed: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/79728/1.ashxeverybody, meet larry.
while the above skepticism and sarcasm might be a normal response and even warranted in the beginning, i will state that larry is a good guy, big heart, lot's of knowledge and understanding, articulate and disarming.
can't dance worth shit tho, jk.
Well, I know that I am still going through things and am not out of the woods, nor expect to be really. At times there are things that surprise me still, that pop up out of the blue. So I can say the JW experience may not fully ever leave me. But, I sure can try to create new experiences.
The one thing that came to my mind when Corvin asked the question what would help you personally.
I know many of us, had the frightening experience of having no where to go. The feeling of limbo and free falling, where you aren't quite sure what to expect or how you will be received. Watching how Corvin first reacted to the invitation Larry gave, is indicative to what many of us distrust. We fear~ why, because we have good reason too. Thus, for many of all ages it is hard to reach out and actually get the help we need.
As a person fresh out of this religion in 1989, I did not really did know what direction I wanted to go in or needed to go towards, I was free falling. It was terrifying. I am glad that I did have a father outside of the religious grasp of JW-ism, but he could not understand how I felt or why I did the things I did. None the less, he loved me unconditionally. Which I appreciate to this very day.
I know my sister; Tamar had a difficult time too. She was out of the house at 15 years of age and just as unprepared for life too. Living on the streets is a dangerous place to learn. It is a place where one mistake can cost you dearly. Trying to survive doesn't give you the time to sort through all the emotions, the fears, etc. I had only wished my sister contacted me, but she did not due to being told lies by our parents. I also wished I had known about her situation sooner, rather than after the fact. Again Shunning and the lack of communication strikes havoc.
A place is needed for those who have been expelled from the home or need a place to go for protection of abuse. CPS is one thing and they are over worked and definitely there have been children who have fallen through the cracks.
I know as a group we can pull together and really come up with some terrific ideas and implement them into being. There are grants available for many things, there are businesses that can sponsor and donate, then there is us, to also help support this. It is just a matter of pulling together to make it happen.
I am not a grant writer, but I am sure there are those out there with that experience. I also know that we can establish a non-profit, a business license, etc. We can have a House of Hope, where it is a stepping stone on to better things. Where religion is a choice not something forced, where you know people can help, etc.
One of the many grants I found came from this site: http://www.fedmoney.com/grants/b0054.htm
Here are a few to look into( or what we can link with in participation of a program):

Ex-minister admits abusing daughtersKAREN CIMINO Staff Writer YADKINVILLE - A former Lincoln County minister whose three adult daughters said on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" last week that he abused them as children pleaded guilty Thursday to related charges and was sentenced to 36 years in prison. His daughters howled and cried in the courtroom after their father was sentenced on six counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor. Although they argued for him to get the maximum 60-year sentence, they said afterward they were happy with the punishment and could finally start to heal. Ted Eugene Hendrix, 66, declined to comment as he was taken into custody after sentencing, rolling a green oxygen tank behind him. He was later taken to Raleigh for processing into the state prison system. In March, Hendrix was charged with second-degree rape, incest, second-degree sexual offense and crime against nature. Prosecutors said the charges were based on events that one of the daughters said took place in 1982. Hendrix's trial was scheduled to begin Monday in Yadkin County Superior Court, but was postponed because he was hospitalized after seeing his daughters on the national talk show. Hendrix's attorney, Clark Fischer, said Hendrix admitted fondling his daughters but contends he never raped them. He would have fought the rape charge, Fischer said, but did not want to subject his daughters to a trial. The lesser charges that Hendrix pleaded guilty to carry a maximum sentence of 60 years. A rape conviction could have meant a life sentence. But Hendrix might not even serve the 36 years he received. Because the offenses occurred more than 20 years ago, his sentence could be reduced to 18 years with an opportunity for parole. "But he's certainly not looking at getting out anytime soon," Fischer said. Hendrix resigned his job as minister of Webbs Chapel Methodist Church in Denver. N.C., after his daughters confronted him in August 2003, accusing him of raping and fondling them as children. A spokeswoman for `The Oprah Winfrey Show" said producers learned of the case while doing research and invited the women on the show. The spokeswoman said producers called Hendrix before the show aired but didn't hear back from him. A crew from the Oprah show attended the hearing Thursday in Yadkinville, but would not comment. Hendrix's three daughters testified in court Thursday, answering questions from the prosecutor and defense attorney to help Judge William Wood decide on a sentence. Four men including two retired United Methodist preachers testified on Hendrix's behalf. "My father lay my soul in strips," Amy Harrison, 39, said. "He took my 8-year-old body. ... I ask that you speak for the child I was and the woman I am." Hendrix's two older daughters -- Cathy Hawks and Pam Harris -- each said on the stand that they remembered being touched inappropriately on a daily basis, but only had "a feeling" they were raped. They also asked for the maximum sentence. "I believe he needs to face his earthly punishment before he faces his Judgment Day," Hawks said. Harris was last to speak. "Our father took our childhood, our innocence, our trust," she said. "He used the precious name of God in the most awful way." Earl Cook, a retired minister from Morganton who has known Hendrix for 40 years, spoke in defense of his friend. "You can't neglect the good that this man has done over the years," he said. "He's a broken man. He's a dying man because of these allegations." Neither Hendrix nor his wife took the stand. The judge said Hendrix committed "a horrible crime." "The effect of what you have done is still present today," Wood said. Then he sentenced Hendrix to six years in prison for each count, to be served consecutively. The Rev. George Thompson, superintendent of the United Methodist district in which Hendrix served, said Thursday from Charlotte that to his knowledge, Hendrix had never been accused of any wrongdoing by anyone in his congregations. "I am saddened by the alienation and pain within the Hendrix family, the shock experienced by Ted Hendrix's former parishioners and the lingering wounds that will be likely carried into the future by these three daughters," Thompson said. -- STAFF WRITER KEN GARFIELD CONTRIBUTED TO THIS ARTICLE. |

YADKINVILLE - A former Lincoln County minister hospitalized last week after watching his daughters tell Oprah Winfrey that he had abused them as children pleaded guilty Thursday to six counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.
Ted Eugene Hendrix, 66, was sentenced in Yadkin County Superior Court to 36 years in prison, but could have the sentence reduced to 18 years, court officials said. He was immediately taken to the Yadkin County Jail for processing and was to be transferred to the state prison system in Raleigh later in the day.
Hendrix could have faced life in prison if convicted of the original charges of second-degree rape, incest, second-degree sexual offense and crime against nature. He was arrested in March after one of his daughters went to Yadkin police.
The three women told Oprah their father abused them almost daily for about a decade. Two of them said it started when they were 7 or 8; the other said she was about 12.
The daughters said after the hearing that they were satisfied with the sentence and could now start healing.
remember the kingdom hall bathroom spankings for us kids that did not sit quietly for the meeting?
the threats, the manipulation, the head games, the forced meeting attendance, forced field service activity, forced family wt publication study, the forbidden association with non-jw?s, the berating and chastising for having a thought or idea of your own, the dresser drawer searches looking for music or magazines you were not suppose to have .
you know, the typical jw upbringing .
Sherry:
Our mother and your mother must have been from the same smack your kid class or graduated from the same school of abuse.
My mother and I did have a battle of wills, too. She would taunt me, ?Go ahead and call Child Abuse! All they will do is put you in a foster home where they will really abuse you!? To my sisters and brother she would shout:? You better stop that crying! OR I?ll really give you something to cry about!? that was a favorite of hers with my younger siblings.
What was really sad and ironic, is when CPS did finally come. They did not do a damned thing, which made our mother feel more ?empowered? like she was right. It made matters worse for me, each time they did come. The first time they came out, I was sent to school with strangulation bruises around my neck and nail marks (which I still have the scars of) on my arms and neck too. (I fought back, when she was choking me). One of the people who were in a trailer next to our tent trailer heard my sister R scream. ?Mommy STOP you?re killing her!?
CPS came down to my school (I was in H.S.) and spoke to me. I was very scared and mumbled my replies. All they did was go up to the campground and lecture my mother on proper food care. She was waiting for me when I got off the bus, she accused me of calling them
It is amazing what can be considered normal.
