  First public birthday today x

  today i celebrated being 32 (i think) at university, it felt awesome to be public and not care anymore.

  facebook was full of lovely messages and i had great cards.

  wish i had been braver years ago.

  How do you feel about birthdays and Christmas now?

  i wonder...for those of you who were brought up as a jw or who have been "in" for many years, how do you feel about birthdays and christmas and celebrations in general now?.

  the indoctrination/brainwashing is very strong.

  once you are out, or, perhaps, still in but totally disillusioned and sure that it is all a lie, not the truth, do you find that you are determined to celebrate like mad to make up for what you missed, or do you find you have a lingering sense of guilt, however irrational you may now think it is?.

  Hey Charliko, happy belated birthday!!

  Yes this year has been the first year I celebrated guilt free, my one's today so yay, woke up had pressie's given to me which I was very staunch for years about not recieving, went out for a cool yum cha, and when I woke up silly as it may seem I thought yay Its my birthday and felt like a kid-(whats wrong with that?) my own friends did not even know when it was, but this year my husband really surprised me with all the thoughtfulness, now after being away from things for 6 month's I'm starting to wonder what all the bs guilttrips were about in regard to birthdays.

  Xmas-meh! still probably not going to be whooping that one up, not only was the wtbts not real, neither was Santa! But each to their own and the best present I have given myself EVER is the freedom to be me- FINALLY

  Rta _ I hear ya, I'm there but thankfully happier than I have been for years now.

  Screw Them, the GB have alot to answer for, and I have no hesitation telling JW's it's blood guilt on them running around telling people of an organization they know nothing about, I have even told a few to get out of babylon and quit touching the unclean thing's! throw all the guilt trip's back at them (I refrain from eyerolling and hissing-supposedly the mark of a true apostate:))

  The more I learn about the GB's way's.... well.....Grrrrrrr
