DLJ,
Thanks for your reply and I appreciate where you're coming from too. I agree that following Bible principles do keep you out of trouble, and I don't regret that part of my life either.
I'm glad you're on this board and look forward to more of your comments.

What I think Mommy/Wendy (her real name) is getting at is this :
Getting married is a serious decision that will affect you for the rest of your life. It involves great responsibility, sacrifices, and how you behave as a married person will affect others in your life as well. If you believe marriage is for life, choosing a marriage partner is probably one of the greatest decisions you will ever make in your life. It will be more important than what job you have, where you live, or how much money you make.
Getting baptised covers much the same responsibilities. Once you are baptised, you are treated more seriously. Greater responsibility is expected of you. If you are not baptised but commit a sin, you are not shunned or criticised the same way, are you? You are also expected to be able to make decisions and accept responsibility for those decisions you make, based on how you interpret what the Society says about issues. I don't think I need to go into all the ins and outs of the expectations and responsibilities that go with being a baptised Witness for you DLJ as you have been raised as a JW just as I was.
Now, would we expect a child of 12 to fully appreciate the responsibilities and expectations of a married person?
If the answer is no, then why believe a child of 12 to fully appreciate the responsibilities and expectations of a baptised person?
And I am not saying baptism is a bad thing.
But it is not fair nor morally feasible to "encourage" a child to baptism any more than we would expect s/he to chose a life-long marriage partner at that stage in life too.

Another pagan ritual JW's practice
by TR ini recieved this in an email this morning: thanks, man.
it was the accepted practice in babylon 4,000 years ago that for a. month after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink.
mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month or what we know today as the honeymoon.. tr

LOL @ eyes!
I just tried singing Song No 117 to the Muppets theme - it does work!!
As for Song No 220 sounds like a hula song because it was written by a Hawaiian brother.
#88 was my favourite. Lovely song if you can reach those notes.

I totally agree with TW's thoughts. Although I understand your enthusiasm to preach your gospel, you imply that you don't really think those on this board are really Christians, and therefore you have the "will and duty as a Christian" to preach to us.
Your words basically say that "anyone" who loves the Lord and praises the Him are to be included as Christians, your "brothers and sisters". Does this not include JWs then? Don't you think some of them are as sincere as you are?
You also imply that they are not doing the preaching as effectively as God planned. Yet you say that you are doing your "duty" in this. And you are just one man. Don't you think that 6 million JWs also feel they are doing their duty when they go out knocking on doors? It's not easy work, this door-to-door stuff. Yet they do it and feel they are doing God's will and have His blessing.
If you really want to know what JWs believe, give the local JWs a call (their number will be in the phone book) and request that someone comes to visit you to answer some questions you have. Although I'm sure others here may be happy to help, there are also those who have had bad experiences being JWs and may not wish to discuss the topic.
And for your information, I am a Christian and I fully believe in the Holy Father, Jehovah, his Son, Jesus and a separate Holy Spirit. I believe in the ransom sacrifice Jesus gave for our sins and the hope of eternal life as a result.

A Little About Me (in case anyone's wondering)... Born and raised a JW. 3rd generation, daughter of a former elder. Mother died from cancer when I was 11, several years later my father married Cinderella's step-mother. (I can really relate to that story!) I was kicked out of home by them, despite this I got baptised 6 mths later. Strong JW in every way until I started to have questions and saw things in the cong that resembled the Pharisees of Jesus' day. Gradually faded away from witnessing and meetings, final meeting was the Memorial of last year. Apart from a few "sheperding" visits(read : "go to the meetings or you'll die at the Big A"), no help from any of my so-called "friends" in the cong. Anyway, I am making the best of the situation but glad to have done what I've done.
OK... NEXT !!
