Ozzie,
What West Australian Shiraz do you like? I'm partial to the Australian shiraz and I'd love some recommendations. My fave is Wyndham Hills bin 555. Oh, and I knew what a cab sav was!

as liza, the kids, and i were decorating the christmas tree last night, my mind went back to our first christmas together 6 years ago.
one of the first questions liza asked was "you're not going to put up a tree, are you?
" typical jw conditioning.
Hi Yeru! We are starting new traditions every year. We have been easing our way into Christmas as the kids get older. We always go to downtown Seattle a few days before Christmas with my brother and his family to ride the holiday carousel and buy new ornaments. Christmas Eve is spent with the Prince's family (step-brother's ranch) we exchange and open gifts with them. Christmas day we open our gifts then have a big gingerbread waffle breakfast complete with bacon (only day I cook bacon and/or sausage). Last year my parents and grandpa came over for prime rib dinner.
I love decorating the house and I'm doing more this year since the Prince's sister and husband are traveling here from Boston for Christmas. We are going to his mom's next weekend and will cut down a tree on our way back home. She lives on 20 acres in the small town of Castle Rock at the base of Mt St Helens. I have a party for the neighborhood every year. We never get to do more than wave to most and the occasional chat over the proverbial fence with the rest. It's nice to have a few hours every year to talk with everyone in a relaxed party atmosphere.
This year the death of loved ones has brought the family together on several occasions and the last few have left the JWs. I am having a family Christmas party on the 22nd. Our first. We have each done our own celebrations, and some have done no celebrating but this year I thought it would be important to re-connect at Christmas and have a little wine together.
Mulan has a couple things she likes to do with the kids at Christmas, I'll let her tell about them.
Merry Christmas everyone,

okay, by popular demand........here is a photo of my giant turkey from thanksgiving.
stuffed, it weighed 46 pounds, and i had to borrow a commercial sized pan, to put it in.
as you can see, it literally fills my oven, is on the bottom rack (had to take one out) and nearly touches the roof of the oven.
Hey Yeru! Mulan made totally yummy cranberry sauce to go with the pteradactyl...I mean turkey.
Thanks Danny and Tina, I guess I just forgot that others don't have it the same way with family still in the borg. We really are blessed.
I'll have to ask Mulan about your brother-in-law Danny. Oh, and it's snowing today, not raining!

just nice to know that i'm not alone.
i'm truly amazed and had no idea unitil yesterday surfing on a whim i decided to confront my past.
it's a blessing for me and i feel another turning point in my life because now i have lots of people to talk to and i know now that i wasn't and i'm not going crazy and that it's not just me.
Welcome Amazed! I am Mulan's daughter and also looking forward to hearing more from you!

Hi Dannyboy, I can answer that!
My mother-in-law's husband raised them on his farm. He said he still has one in the freezer that is bigger. I guess he feeds them well! It was really good, still have some in the fridge...must make sandwiches.
That was the grossest looking bird when it was cooked but it sure was good.
Mom really gets nasty when you talk about messing with the turkey. I personally love them on the barbecue. The Prince is good at that! We are heading down to the farm in week and they are going to deep fry one. Should be good.

after reading a few threads regarding the upcoming christmas season, i thought i'd post a funny story, and ask you to add to it.. if you've ever received a wacky present, or one you had to pretend that you liked, please post it.. about 5 years ago, when i first started celebrating christmas with hubby, i got a real shocker of a present.
a deep fryer.. now, hubby was *very* proud of himself.
you see, about three months prior to christmas we were going through costco (warehouse type store) when i noticed they had a nice little deep fryer.
Ranchette's story reminded me of a wedding gift. There was a really sweet young Cambodian brother in the hall and he gave us this HUGE wall clock with a little cartoon old Asian couple on it. We had tears streaming down our faces when we opened that present. It was the ugliest thing I have ever seen.
My Prince is very good at gift giving. Our first Valentines day out of the borg (mostly out at that time) he bought me a pair of diamond earrings. Ten months later for my birthday, he bought me a big diamond to replace the little one in my wedding band. The next Valentines day he bought me a house and the next one a new car. I think I'll keep him even though he bought me a dishwasher for mother's day last year.
Prince thinks the funniest gift we got for our wedding was a deviled egg serving tray. We sent it on into the world of regifted gifts.

we went to the mall today, to see santa.
it was great fun.
the kids got shy, at the last minute, and didn't want to go see him, after all, but he came over to talk to them, and said he had a present for them, so they followed him over to his chair, where he gave them some great marker pens.
What beautiful grandkids you have Mulan!
Stephanus: I told him Mulan wanted the tattoo. He went like thisthen.
I told you Santa was real! I just love the picture, it's my first one with both kids and Santa. Last year only my son wanted to visit with Santa.

i haven't told this to very many people, so here goes.. when i was a child, my parents became jw's (i was almost 5), so i had celebrated christmas a few times, but have few memories of it, other than the bubble lights, and a huge tree and my grandparent's house.
when we stopped celebrating it, i didn't really "get it", and i still believed in santa claus.
i just thought he didn't come to our house anymore.
Maybe I should get Mulan to pose with Santa too. It's time.

Mulan and I are off to the mall to visit with Santa today. I'll ask him if he is real and will let y'all know what he says. I suppose we could even post a picture and you can judge for yourself!

We were very surprised when our son started talking about Santa. I think it was two years ago, when he was three. He knew the whole Santa story and asked us if it was true. I just looked at him and wondered if I should kill the whole thing before it got started or let him believe for awhile. I asked him what he thought and he said it was true. Whew! If I had told him it wasn't true, he would definitely be enlightening a room full of 3-6 year olds this year! I would be in big trouble with a lot of parents. He just asked me tonight when Santa was going to drop off the presents, and can we go see him tomorrow. I love Christmas.
