  Not Just Bangers And Mash

  well, folks, christmas is a comin', and we start off the festive season next week as her ladyship and i have a sixsome for an evening meal.

  here's what we are cooking, except that we use sherry rather than madeira wine.

  I love Iron Chef, cracks me up for an hour. The Prince usually groans and leaves the room or reads a book. I love it when the guy bites the pepper at the beginning.

  My favorite meatloaf is as follows:

  1lb lean ground beef
  1/3 cup oats
  1 egg
  1/2 cup salsa
  1 teaspoon chili powder (or more to taste)
  1 teaspoon cumin (or more)
  1 teaspoon salt
  pepper to taste

  combine all ingredients well and form a loaf, cover top with HEINZ (best) ketchup bake for 1 hour 15 minutes at 350. I serve with roasted potatoes. My kids (3 & 5) gobble this up, Prince too.

  Are they going too far?

  i feel like i am a moderately patriotic person.

  i bought old navy flag tee shirts for my whole family.

  i wore mine the day of the memorials shortly after sept 11. i have a flag sticker in my car window.. my husband told me of an article in usa today regarding the flags everywhere.

  Yeru, have you ever posted your story about wiping your feet on the flag, etc? I'd like to read it sometime. I hope you didn't think I was insulting the flag, but rather that a flag on an orange is insulting.

  Thanks for your comments, I see now that I am not alone in my disgust over the commercialism. My husband saw a sign in a car that said "show your support, fly a flag" or something to that effect. I think it's great that people feel the need to fly a flag but when they start telling me to do it, I get defensive and angry. It is a personal choice and no lady driving by in her car is going to make me fly a flag because she made a sign saying I should.

  The orange was good. I had to throw the flag sticker in the garbage with the orange peel. I know you aren't supposed to throw flags away, but I didn't know what else to do.

  About that flag you are flying...

  my neighbors have had a flag hanging from their house since sept 12. they are rather quiet people, not overly friendly but will say hello if i say it first.

  we live in the pacific northwest...seattle area.

  it has been very wet and windy recently and i frequently look out to see the neighbors flag all wet and sometimes the wind blows it up so it's laying on the roof.

  Well, that helps. I didn't know an all weather flag was acceptable. It still looks horrible when it's all twisted and flopped up on their roof though.

Why do people persist in flying flags in the rain? Isn't this a huge sign of disrespect? I know my neighbors and the hundreds of other people with wet flags don't mean to be disrespectful, but why do I know you aren't supposed to fly flags in the rain and they don't? I spent most of my life being offended by flags as a dub, and now I'm bugged that people are too lazy to bring them in when it rains.

  My husband told me of an article in USA today regarding the flags everywhere. It questioned whether they serve as a show of support or a reminder of the tragedy thus making us unable to move on. I don't know about your home town, but there are flags absolutely everywhere here. Yesterday I was peeling an orange for my kids and noticed there was a flag sticker on the orange. I personally feel this is taking it a bit far. My orange supports the USA. Is it okay to eat it?

  What if the elders dont come see you at all?

  i was looking at the post of,another member here and he stated how he hates when the elders come to harass his wife for not coming to the meetings,but what if they never come?

  my wife has been missing from the meetings for almost a year now due to illness,and i have been missing the meetings dueto my relocating after the 9/11 attacks we get a phone call once every 2 months from one elder,and thats about it.we got a shepherding call only out of fear of what the circuit overseer might say to them for not seeing us.what to do?

  I was in the same congregation for 27 years and never got so much as a phone call when I left. My husband had quit being a ministerial servant some months prior to our leaving. I could never understand why they didn't call or come by. I have since run into several elders who have turned on their heel and walked the other way.

  I'm not complaining mind you, it's just an odd thing. We fully expected to get the whole shepherding visit but were left alone. Even now, we obviously celebrate all the holidays and they stay away.

  My Prince has worn a suit three times in five years, all this year. Once for my brother's wedding, my grandfather's memorial and my cousin's memorial.

  I prefer him in Levis.

  I wear dresses occasionally but all my dub dresses are gone. Too ugly. My skirts have shortened a bit too.

  DA or not DA or continue slipping away ?

  for weeks now, i've been trying to put together a disassociation letter - incidently, it's you lot that have put me up to this - and it's nearing completion but i'm feeling nervous about sending it.

  the fast approaching christmas celebration thingymajig is kinda egging me on as i want to blaze christmas lights everywhere and not feel nervous about the possibility of a visit from the po who drops the mags in to me fortnightly (i'm generally 'not in' ... ahem ...).

  i would appreciate your for's and against's - to either convince me to go ahead, or to think again and stay the execution ...

  If you DA yourself you are playing by their rules. Let the Christmas lights blaze away, if they feel the need to DF you, they are playing the game. If you DA first, you are playing the game. Do your own thing, they have no control over you anymore. Just by walking out the door you are free.

  hey everyone, i am thinking of having a tree this year for the very first time since i stopped going to the kh.

  although i am not disfellowshipped and i have not written a letter to disassociate, the closest friends i have had over the years as a witness have all chosen to avoid me and my family unless we return to the hall.

  unofficial shunning by those who we have loved.

  They might decide to df you when they see the tree, or they might just leave you alone. We have had lights for the past three years and a tree for the past two. Everyone knows it, no one has called. We really don't care if they do. Christmas is a great time of year. I love it! My five year old is so excited he can hardly stand it.

  I vote for the tree ARoarer. It adds so much cheer to your house, you can't help but smile when you look at it.
