my husband and i have a friend who credits the lord with every good thing that happens in his life.

he is really a nice guy, unmarried, no kids and is now in remission from non hodgkins lymphoma (again, credit to the lord).

what do you think about people who credit the lord for every good thing that happens to them?

Rex, you never answered my question about why you have to understand Jesus claimed to be god in order to attain salvation.

In Mulan's defense, my sister in law is an extremely irritating person. The fact that you all think this person got out because he prayed to God/Jesus for his help is as ridiculous and superstitious as she said. I am willing to bet big bucks that of the 6000+ people in those towers, 90% were praying for gods help. The fact that this person thanks god for saving him also implies that god did not see fit to save the other multi thousand that prayed for help that morning. She is not wanting to bring us the joy that she has in her life, she is desperately trying to save people who are not seeking her help. She doesn't feel like we are really Christian because we do not go to church and believe the same way she does.

Nothing seems to offend her so don't worry yourself with pity for her.

Hi Rex. I read your post. I am curious about the interpretations you added between scriptures. Also, when you say you won't even have the desire to be saved unless called upon by the father, what do you mean? Are we all to believe we are just waiting to be called? Is god watching us and waiting for the perfect moment to call on us? What if we die before he calls? Eternal death?

What proof do you have to back up the statement that to "fall short of the glory of god" means eternal separation from him? Could this not just mean that we fall short of his glory in that we can never attain his perfection, he is god and we are human?

You gave no proof that death mentioned in Romans is more than physical.

As for Jesus telling the man he would be with him in paradise, keep in mind that the punctuation was added after translating. He could just have easily been saying "truly I tell you today, you will be with me..." I realize this is the JW explanation for that scripture and I don't know which way is correct. I personally don't think it matters. My point is, you can't prove it is one way or the other. You have not proven the immortal soul with this scripture.

Rex, why would they have to make a big public spectacle of their faith? Getting saved??? I just don't see that it is necessary. I have faith in God and Christ but I'm pretty sure there was never a moment when I felt I was "saved". I'm sure some would say that I am not saved. Also, explain "cultural Christian". My hackles went up over that one and I just want to be sure what you meant.

Sweetone, you made me laugh. For some reason they forget to mention the bad things. I just don't think god cares that much about our ordinary everyday lives.

My husband and I have a friend who credits the Lord with every good thing that happens in his life. He is really a nice guy, unmarried, no kids and is now in remission from non Hodgkins lymphoma (again, credit to the lord). I asked him if he ever attended the Promise Keepers and he had of course and proceeded to tell us about how he had taken his buddy and on the last day his buddy was saved. He was so relieved. My first thought was "saved from what?". If Christ died for all men, why did his friend need to be saved at the Promise Keepers convention?

What do you think about people who credit the lord for every good thing that happens to them? My cousin also had faith in God but she died from cancer. Where was the lord? How do you explain that he is in remission because of his faith but Sharon died? This is something that really bothers me. I have some friends whose son was in a horrible car wreck earlier this year. He and his friend (both attended the same church) were underage and drinking. The friend died instantly and Zach is still in and out of the hospital. His father said the lord saved his son. What about the other boy? He went to church too. They both broke the law, in fact Zach was kicked out of his private Christian school for smoking pot shortly before the accident. Where is the logic in that? The lord saved one and took the other?

I hear people make these comments all the time. Are they really just not thinking it through?

For those of you who attend a church

i was raised a jw & left when i was 19. my husband went to a few different churches growing up (catholic, methodist etc) but he doesn't really consider himself a member of any particular denomination.

he considers himself a christian, although he isn't sure what he believes or if he believes in the bible as god's word.. i have run from any type of organized group that is controlling.

i don't know if i believe in god, or the bible as anything more than a series of stories with life lessons in them.

There is a baptist church behind my house. We have decided never to attend it.

How did we decide not to attend? Easy, they are the loudest, most obnoxious neighbors in the neighborhood. We have to go there frequently to shut them up late at night.

What is require of us as a neighbor? Know how to dial 911

Do we believe the teachings? Probably not. We have respect for our neighbors, they do not as my husband pointed out the last time he had to shut them up.

That is the extent of our experience with a church. We have never taken our kids to the KH (left upon the birth of number 1) and we teach them about God with out the "God box" as a friend called it. I have lots of friends who go to church but I can't get rid of the nasty taste left over from the last religion. My five year old son doesn't understand why some feel the need to go to a building to talk to God when we can do it at home. My brother attends an Assembly of God church but it is another organized religion like the dubs, better music though.

dear friends:.

ive taken a few days to post, having a need to sort out my thoughts and watch the coverage along with my co-workers, family, and neighbors.

ive also read your posts over the past 48 hours and seen many of the same reactions as the population in general.

larc, you misunderstood my post. Sorry you took offense.

I have lost two close family members in the last three weeks. I am still in shock over my own family members let alone the thousands who were killed on Tuesday. Your petty fights are absolutely ridiculous and really surprised me. It seems like this should be a place of comfort, but it is just a place to bicker. The millions of never-been-dubs are more united in this country today than the people of this board, with the exception of those who are not from the US. We do feel your love and support here, and I am most grateful.
