  so we all know that the blotchtower and awake are becoming 16 page mags.

  yes, they are becoming the "weetower" and the "halfasleep".. they are moving some articles over to jw.org and i have a few reasons why i think they are doing this:.

  With regard to the second point made by the OP, I'm afraid that is totally incorrect. Most people, myself included, do not have a static IP. One day my IP address can be somewhere 50 miles NW of where I live, the next day it can be 100 miles E of where I live. Although IP addresses can indicate my general location, the area is so broad that it (for me) covers at least 20 congregations.

  Although it is possible to be more accurate, you would have to be in a very senior government department to gain access to such information. You would also have to have a very good reason for doing so. I don't think trying to monitor to actions of religious adherents would cut it!

  end would come in 1975, but aren't we so thankfull.

  jwfacts - What circular reasoning. If we are greatful the end the not come then, won't a whole new group of JW's be equally happy the end did not come in 2050 etc etc. There will always be the newly baptised grateful the end did not come before they got their chance of salvation.

  I completely agree, jwfacts. The perpetual idea is given that "we should be thankful that armageddon hasn't arrived yet." Why? "Because it has allowed more people, including ourselves, to be drawn to be truth." How fantastic!! But...

  • If armageddon had come in 1975, I wouldn't even have existed.
  • The world's population is ever increasing, so the good lord is kindly allowing ever more people to die when armageddon does come, and is giving us an ever increasing workload. How thoughtful!!

  ...but hang on? Don't we have to witness to everybody? It which case we'll have to wait until the world's population starts decreasing again, which won't happen for at least another few decades? So we can stop going on the ministry for the time being, then? Hooray!!

  It is a circular, completely pathetic, argument.

  desensitization from the Jehovah's witnesses

  this may be a different way of exit from the jehovah's mentality, for me it should work, first i want to try all the things that were verbotent to them, slowly at first a piece of black pudding, then donating blood, you see the progression.. then a little more flagrant in the laws, buying a pack of tarot cards, reading them and so on.. does anyone think that's a reasonable way of beginning to destroy the subconcious methods of programming, also i am very ocd so any way of destroying the jehovahs witnesses mindset is fraught with potential new ways of worrying me!.

  In response to HillaryJean, I think you'd probably kill yourself if you did the opposite of everything said in the YPA book. Exiting the religion does not mean you have to do the opposite of everything they do. Much of what they teach is, frankly, sound advice (avoiding drugs, moderation with drinking, promoting good relations with others, etc...), and because of that it is perfectly possible for some JW's to live happier, more fulfilling lives than "wordly" people.

  What bothers me is their "holier than thou," "we are always right" attitude. I certainly don't agree with all of their teachings, but I haven't ditched every one of them, as some of them I agree with. The ones I still agree with are not really "teachings" specific to JW's, but rather, common sense advice that everyone would do well to apply!

  The difference here is that JW's purport to WANT their material to be distributed as much as possible. So saying that material from their website must not be " redistributed without written permission" seems a little odd. As does " visitors agree not to post these materials on any electronic network," as publishing extracts of copyrighted material for the purposes of meaningful discussion constitutes fair use under US copyright law. (Of course, I'm sure the GB would prefer otherwise).

  It the T&C's focused on selling or modifying the material alone, there would be no questions to answer.

  Does anyone have links to the 1964, 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969 copies of Awake? They are the only ones I don't have, and PDF's would be much appreciated.

  Page 23, paragraph 14 (of the "educated people edition") is interesting:

  "14 Reflect back on the joy that so

  many of God’s people had during the

  Memorial season this year. During

  March, a special provision allowed auxiliary

  pioneers to choose whether they

  would devote 30 or 50 hours to the field

  service. (Ps. 110:3) Millions shared in

  auxiliary pioneer service, and congregations

  seemed to radiate exceptional

  excitement and joy."

  So apparently, since this was written before the memorial season started, the GB can now fortell the future about things unrelated to the Bible! They must use some good furtune tellers!

  I don't doubt that "millions" will auxilirary pioneer again this year, although I suspect it will be significantly less than last year. What makes me laugh, however, is the way the Watchtower Society writes about "congregations radiating exceptional excitement and joy" in advance of the actual event! Just another example of make-believe things in the Watchtower...
