Do you feel that you are really YOU?
by UnshackleTheChains ini am interested in finding out how you view yourself.
are really you when it comes to every day interactions....ie when at work, with family or friends, or if attending meetings?.
if still attending, do you feel you are not the real you at meetings?

The hardest bit is seeing relatives, friends and congregants who are besotted with the organisation simply seeming unable to see the hypocrisy and other problems, leaving me feeling like it's ME who has the problem and is the idiot
Thanks to everyone's comments and feedback. I used to find that I had to take a deep breath every time I walked into the KH. Nowadays, I really couldn't give a flying fudge cake what people think. I don't care anymore as to how people view me, though I still do put on a front.
As soon as I leave the KH, it's like my strait jacket is off, particularly when I turn the key in the car and drive off home.
It astonishes me how everyone around me at the KH takes what we are being spoon fed by the GB so seriously, whilst all the controversies rage on in the media. Being at the KH feels like a parallel universe. It's business as usual. Yet during meetings, I sit there thinking, what the? Eh? Surely not! No way! Come on? Really? Nonsense!
I find the meetings for the most part mind numbingly Boring. Most speakers (not all) sound half hearted and lack enthusiasm when giving talks. Talks tend to be very matter of fact.....not really coming from the heart. Yet many in my hall continue to be as described above 'besotted with the Organisation'. Its just all so surreal!

60 years is a long time my friend.
Man you sound so like me. I told my works colleague that I no longer view myself as a JW, but rather 'a Christian' ....and that's it.
I only attend meetings now and again to appease my full in wife. The elders don't bother, because deep down they know my views and don't want to rock the boat.
I avoid the ministry as much as I can, but post blogs of my honest beliefs as a Christian. That gives me much comfort. Sadly, I have to go by an anonymous name for obvious reasons
Thanks UTC

Hi Christian and to your good lady.
Great point made about people waking up. The amount of bad press the watchtower publishing corporation is receiving right now is beyond belief. You would have to be the most dimwitted JW to not see the controversies within the organisation. It's all over the net. This forum and others; the plethora of you tube videos such as yours; the hearings; the court cases, the newspapers; the TV.
What's more, when elders make complete arses of themselves when trying to micro manage the congregation, helps to wake people up. Eg my wife, friend and several others within our congregation caught out a prominent elder blatantly lying to them. In fact it was embarrassing. The sad part is that that particular elder doesn't even realise he was caught out because his head is so far up his own arse. Yet, those who realised he was 'blatantly' lying no doubt bring his credibility into question.
Yes, it truly is good news that people are waking up to the lies and deceit of this organisation that mixes truth and falsehood for the sake of its own interests!!!

If still attending, do you feel you are not the real you at meetings? Is it all a show? Do you feel you are putting on an act as a witness.? In regards to faders and ex witnesses, do you feel you are still not really you when in company with relatives or friends who are witnesses? Do you feel you are holding back all the time?
In my case, it's all an act. I force myself to go for family reasons. I am not myself when at the meetings. I am putting on a show. If I were to display my true thoughts and feelings, I would be kicked out of the KH within a flash. The only times I can be the real ME 'anonymously' is here on this forum. I can also be the real me with one work colleague whome I share my experiences with; a good genuine friend who has faded many years ago; a little bit with my wife ( though tread carefully); and a little bit with my over zealous 'loyal to the organisation' mother.
I am certainly not me generally which is frustrating. Hence the reason I like to vent here.
So ......do you feel that you are the real 'genuine' YOU whether you be a current jw, a fader, or an ex jw?

Hanging out with JWs is exhausting!
by StephaneLaliberte innot long ago, there was a funeral for a sister i haven’t know very much, so i did not attend.
however, some old “friends” i know drove down to town to assist and i ended up spending some time with them.
quite honestly, i was happy to see them again.

I attended a family event once where I was expecting mostly relatives and friends to be in attendance. I did expect a handful of Witnesses to be there, but discovered almost a third in attendance were witnesses.
I felt I could let my hair down with everyone but the witnesses and avoided interaction with them as much as I could that night as had a skin full 🍻
