Speaking of that comb over thing. One time I was at an assembly and this older fellow gets on the platform to give his talk. This is in an open air stadium. He has his hair combed over and laquered in place. The wind comes up and his comb over begins to raise up like a large piece of paper and then drop back down again. This goes on for a while and one can hear a lot of suppressed laughter and giggles in the audience. I can see that he is very nervous and embarrased but he keeps going. All of a sudden a good gust comes up and the whole thing stands up on end and then flops over on the wrong side. One could hear a gasp and then total silence followed by a lot of giggles and people trying to not laugh. The speaker grabs the whole thing and flips it back over and down and holds it in place as he goes on with his talk. I don't recall ever seeing him again. May be an apostate by now.

I agree with you that both are good men and both are working hard for good causes. Like you pointed out they are two very different personalities. Each one effective in their own way in their efforts. We ought not expect perfection from either and accept that there may be differences between them and not dwell needlessly on this subject.

he bragged about another cold-blooded killing that he had made a month ago.
what his stupid ass didn't realize is that he gave a break to competent officials who were looking for any opening.

I have been thinking along those same lines as I watched this thing unfold. It is obvious that the U.S.is not at all ready to handle such things as this if done on a large scale.
I would not have been surprised in the least to learn that this shooter was an Al Quaida operative. I am afraid that we are in for a long haul of this and other types of murderous actions in the near future. The U.S. is going to have to take a lesson from the Israelis on this subject.
I am glad I live in a small unimportant little town that would be of no large emotional importance to the likes of a terrorist.
You are correct in saying that the media needs to shut up and also stop trying to get all the little details from the police. Also the law enforcement agencies need to keep their mouths shut and keep the source of an arrest quiet. If they had not revealed the connection to the alabama shooting it would have left the ones watching this, less information and more questions and doubts about doing something similar.

I know what you mean. I go through the same damned thoughts and feelings almost every day.
1975 was it for me also. I am now 66 and at times so sad or at other times so angry about what I might of achieved. If only I had dumped them earlier. I still lurked in the jw's until 1989 to keep my family from shunning me. Then my dislike for them became obvious and due to other situations I was df'd in 1991.
The only thing I can offer is to determine to make the most of the rest of your life. Establish your own guidelines and try to live up to them and find things that you enjoy. Find people who will not treat you badly and live.
There is happiness and contentment out there, but we have to activly pursue it. It will not come to us on its own.
If professional help with depression or other things are needed, please get that for yourself. It is not an admission of weakness or faults to agree to treatment. Then do the brain work of reasoning your way past the problems and coming to grip with the causes.
Hang in there. Wish you the very best of all that life has in store for you.

There are many fine and intelligent responses to Rays post here. Most of which I agree with.
The only thing I want to add, is that it is obvious that Ray is still loyal to the Bible and the beliefs and instruction within it. And I think still some what loyal to some but not all of the wbts teachings.
I as an individual would not apply the two or three witness requirement to any situation with out considering the evidence. Many crimes occur that are proveable with out any eye witness. This is especially true today with our technical advances. To hold to an ancient requirement that would work to some extent in the past is short sighted to say the least.
This in no way is to put any blame or cast a shadow of any kind on Ray Franz. It is obvious to me that he lives and operates with a dedication to doing the right thing.
It is the rigid adherance to ancient rules with out using good judgement that has caused the application of these rules to be harmful to so many today.
If we want to be loyal to the bible and its teachings, I believe we need to also use judgement and apply the rules in the bible in ways that fit the individual situation and use the essence of the rule not the literal application.
For myself I, not like Ray, do not have that much faith in the bible that I would take anything in a fully literal sense . Again this is not to degrade Ray in any sense of the word. He is obviously a good honorable man that was caught up in the same trap we all shared.
