Always remember that not one of the NT writers had actually seen or heard Jesus.
I always get my giggle box cranked when someone says "always remember" about something that they have zero personal knowledge about.
this is the first time i noticed how dumb jc's use of illustrations could be if that's all he did in the context of.
matt.
13:10-15 ) so the disciples came and said to him: why do you speak to them by the use of illustrations?

hello everyone..... i've been thinking a lot lately, when i have a chance to be alone my mind immediately comes to the topic at hand-- i don't want to die.
what would happen to my precious little girls?
but i'm so scared that it's going to happen.
But right now all religion is hands-off. The deception practiced by the Witnesses unsettled me, and I cannot return to religion with the type of open heart that I had so many years ago.
When I left the WT, this was my experience too. However, it began to become apparent that this was the desired result for those that leave. The watchtower brainwashes people to believe, "it's us or nothing". This is simply the devil continuing his bullying in our ears.... trying to make us feel sorry for ourselves for having wasted our belief on an illusion.
Jesus warned us that there would be deceptions everywhere....Did he not? He said many would come on the basis of his name saying "I am he". Think how the WT hijacked the term "Truth" for itself when in fact Jesus is, "The Way, The TRUTH, and the Life". - A near EXACT fulfillment of Jesus prediction.
Think of 2 Tim 3: 16 where it says that just by reading the bible a person can be complete, whole, lackng nothing, completely equipped. Did we believe that scripture as JW's? Noooo, we kept on right ahead practicing our idolatry.
It you like defeat, go ahead and continue in your self pity. If you want to win, if you want to defeat the enemy, if you want to avoid judgment after death, if you want to assist in shoving the devil down his little hell-filled snake-hole where he came from, then get up, stand up, dust yourself off, start believing God, & start experiencing victory in Christ Jesus.
the gospels were written after paul's epistles.
this is commonly acknowledged by both apologist and neutural bible scholars.
yet we see that paul says clearly in 2 corinthians 11:4 that persons were preaching different versions of jesus and different gospels before the orthodox canonized gospels were written:.
So, Paul counsels not to listen to false gospels and that somehow proves the gospels are false? That's weird.
We would all have done well to follow Paul's advice. It would have saved us from a self serving cult.
"But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ." 2 Cor. 11:3
He's just saying to "Keep it simple". You're a sinner, Jesus offers a substitute death in place of the death penalty for YOUR sin. It is good news that this pardon is even offered. You should take the offer.
That's the gospel..... Very simple.

Praying is good. Prayer is one of life's greatest weapons. God listens to the humble. He listens more to those that believe him. He is against the proud. It's just about that simple.

all scripture is inspired of god and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, so that the man of god may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.. .
as jw's we must have read that scripture a thousand times.
Vivane, Jesus doesn't change people's biochemistry....at least not typically.
Jesus give people a new spirit. This is not an attitude, per se. But, an actual replacement of the dead spirit we inherited as children of Adam. It is the new spirit that he interacts with.
We all have a spirit, but the one we are born with is essentially dead unless renewed, and the old spirit exerts little influence in us, being dominated by the flesh.
I know that might sound like mumbo jumbo to someone who hasn't experienced the new birth, but that is what Jesus does.

What, specifically, is Jesus doing and how is he doing these things? Describe the mechanism by which he implements these changes.
Vivane, You can find testimony all over the internet about this.

The only works that are required are to live a life of mercy towards others and for the fruit of the spirit within to grow and develop so it flows like a river.
This is the EVIDENCE of belief and the resulting new spirit

You need to stop beating yourself up
You misunderstand me if you think I beat myself up. Whatever it took to finally just believe God was worth it. It is the greatest acheivement of my life. Many many "do-overs" got me there. Now life is good, success is a mostly daily, if not moment by moment at times.... reality.
Believing God is the greatest work in the world. It's dividends are endless because God is endless.

designs,
We didn't believe God when he said what he said. We chose to disbelieve God and to believe another. We all suffered for it. It will always be this way. Before Eve sinned, she FIRST DISBELIEVED.
None of my atheist friends here (so far) care to admit that had they believed God, they could have avoided a dreadful cult. But it's true nonetheless.
I am more culpable than most for this reason: I never believed the Wt growing up (after 1975). But at age 23, I wanted to get right with God. I became active... and right before I got baptized (like a few days) an elder was listening to me get a little too excited about some scripture (can't remember which) and he made a huge point to instruct me right then and there that the Greek Scriptures (New Testament) wasn't written to me. He said it didn't apply to me. He said that the whole NT applied primarily to the 144,000 and then only by extension (what ever that means) to people like me.
My Sicilian temper rose up in my belly; I remember the heat coming into my shoulders and rising up to my head making my face red I'm sure. I didn't know whether to feel embarrassed for being so presumptous to assume that God could want to save (and spend time with) someone like me, or to repeatedly slap this man silly until he begged for mercy. So did I choose to believe God? No. I got baptized anyway and tried to WORK my way into his graces like we ALL did at one time.
God is uninterested in our works, He is very interested in our belief.
