"I'm firm in my beliefs": Hypocrisy and Delusion
by schnell ini have a friend who said he'll have to stop listening to me after i told him about yahweh's origins in canaanite religion, because he's firm in his beliefs.. i have a mother who said she goes to the meetings even if it's wrong, and i should too.
she is also firm in her beliefs.. i have talked to an elder about evolution, and as i made the case for it and against creationism, he said that at some point i have to decide that there is a creator.
he too is firm in his beliefs.. all of these people will also talk about going out in service.

Disfellowshipping - Quid Pro Quo - Satan's Accusation
by doublespeak in.
if under jw doctrine, satan's accusation is that a human serves god for the purpose of what he can get out of it, does the disfellowshipping arrangement, exercised to the degree that the governing body deem to be appropriate, support this charge?.
taking for granted the jehovah’s witnesses are god’s chosen organization; on the assumption that the angels (who apparently cannot read heart conditions) looking upon humanity who are making a stand for the issue of sovereignty , are unable to discern those who are in the religion because of their family and friends.

"50 Years a Watchtower Slave" Chapter 5 Part B
by new boy inone thing they never talked about at the assemblies was how many predictions they made in the pass about the so called end of the world.
predictions that never came to be.
i didn’t know it at the time and most jehovah’s witnesses didn’t know that charles russell (1852-1916), the founder, believed that christ had secretly arrived in the year 1874 and that he would establish the kingdom of god on earth in october 1914 russell based this prophecy on his studies of the bible and the great pyramid.

Did God place the Sun and Moon in the earth's atmosphere?
by evilApostate inand god said, “let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” so god made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it.
god called the vault “sky.” and there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.and god said, “let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” and it was so.
god called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” and god saw that it was good.. above we see that there were waters below and waters above.

Straight from the horse's mouth - Jehovah's Witnesses are mentally diseased
by evilApostate inmany of you may remember the july, 2011 study edition watchtower magazine which stated that, "apostates are mentally diseased" ( http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/2011524?q=mentally+diseased&p=par ).
to jehovah's witnesses, anyone who leaves "the truth" is an apostate.
the funny thing is that logically, anyone who teaches false doctrines is also an apostate.. according to the watchtower, anyone who listens to false teachers also classify as apostates (see http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1200000309?q=false+teachers&p=par ).

Geoffrey Jackson, Deuteronomy 18:22
by Spoletta innot sure if this has been commented on, but while reading a discussion, deuteronomy 18:22 was mentioned.
i looked it up, and was struck by its connection to a remark made by geoffrey jackson during his arc testimony.
the gist of the scripture is that if a prophet declares something is from god and it doesn't come true, he is speaking presumptuously, and should not be feared.

The overlapping generation doctrine - The epitome of stupidity?
by evilApostate infor years watchtower has taught that some of the people (anointed) who saw the events of 1914 will be alive to see the end of this system of things.
102 years later and the end is nowhere in sight; another failed prophecy.. to remedy the situation they have concocted some 'new light' in the form of the overlapping generation doctrine.
this new doctrine essentially states that the generation of 1914 consists of two groups of anointed whose lives overlap.

A gaping hole in Theism
by evilApostate inbeing in a jw family while not being a jw yourslef is pretty hard.
to them, you're just as good as dead because all unbelievers will be eternally destroyed at armageddon.
this problem exists in many other religions.. i once had a friend from work tell me that she wanted me to become a christian like her because if i didn't, i would burn in hell for all eternity.
