  i've been absent from the forum for about 10 months while deep into a divorce and working long hours.i heard mention in another thread about a change in 1914. is this actually being taught?

  i'm very curious.

  a extended non jw family member of my soon to be ex spouse finally decided to really do the deep investigation on the jw, and is in the phase of wanting to "ask the direct questions" and inform them of the facts of the jws.

  I can remember talking with an elder about this back in the 80s. He told me that it was inspired in that the person being considered for elder had to be practicing what the spirit inspired word of god had laid down. In that way it was appointment by spirit. Then in the 90s it was again this BS about how the actual spirit of god or holy spirit came down and directed directly each elder to choose or not each elder candidate. I asked again how can that be? Even in the cults own writings they give many cases where some elders, or COs have infiltrated in countries like East Germany and the old USSR just to get inside and they were made elders. I got a lot of BS from "well god must have seen something good in that person" to " It could be Jehovah was testing the congregation" There is no wondering why the cult does not let its members ask real questions.   The cult never changes things they do the Potomac two step. What I can see them doing is to say it takes two witnesses to give them the authority to do anything internally against a member but if someone comes to them with a crime they will report it to the authority.   David Attenborough's new book

  i haven't read his new book, but i've read bits of it that were serialised in a newspaper.. attenborough is a fascinating man and has a lot of interesting things to say.. his new book is about the environment and how to save it, basically.. he wants us to drastically cut down our meat intake and eat more fruit and veg.

  this got me thinking.

  Personally no one wants to talk about the elephant in the room. That is population. We live on a finite planet with finite resources and almost 8 billion people. They are deforesting and stripping resources faster than ever. Its just a matter of numbers. in the 1970s there were around 3 billion people. Now its over double and they all want cars, cell phones and all the rest. My opinion is that we are headed for a train derailment.

  so i watched the new borat movie.

  i like borat the character, he was the most entertaining in the original ali g series.

  there's one piece where he's with a wine taster and looks like he's genuinely drunk, but the way he manages to be annoying and mess up being passed a glass is hilarious.

  Eliminate the Oil Industry?

  a lot of countries are on the side of eliminating the oil industry altogether as well as zero-emission alternatives like nuclear power.. in the us, biden has promised to eliminate all federal lands oil production when he takes power in 2021 (30% of the united states) as well as native american tribal lands which account for 8 percent of all oil, 9 percent of all natural gas, and 6 percent of all natural gas liquids from 96,000 wells (10% of the total wells in the us).. in europe, oil and gas production has been largely eliminated except for the nordic countries and the uk (which the eu recently lost access to), germany is funding a major oil pipeline as is china from russia and russian-controlled portions of ukraine, even after trump cut off all builders from russian oil pipelines, the russian government is now trying to build the pipeline themselves with potential disastrous results.. venezuela's economy collapsed largely due to the government taking over and eliminating the oil industry companies.. in the mean time, control for most non-us energy sources is now wholly dependent on russian and middle eastern governments.. california and germany eliminated oil-based energy sources and now mandate 30% of their power from 'green' wind and solar alternatives.

  germany energy costs now hover around 25c/kwh and california is not far behind with 16c/kwh both experiencing rolling blackouts in major cities and importing 60% of mostly coal and gas energy from their neighbors.. the world currently has 300 years worth of oil at the current rates of usage which have stagnated due to improved efficiencies.

  co2 emissions in the us have dropped in the last 3 years for the first time in decades despite (or because) reduced oil and gas regulations.. do you think given the above facts, eliminating the oil industry is a good thing?

  Not going to happen in the next several decades at least. There is nothing that can fly a plane, or do what fossil fuel does. Even a large amount of the electricity that powers electric cars is currently made by fossil fuel. All states that have renewable has back up fossil plants that are on idle and kick up when its cloudy or the wind is not blowing. Currently to be on renewable s is a myth.
