true believers, whether christian, muslim or whatever, want to convert you, they want you to believe what they do, and they're willing to go to extremes to make it happen.
atheists don't really care what you believe, and don't go out of their way to convert someone.. http://ow.ly/vn1jz an example of what believers in power do to suppress any difference in thought.

I don't think you can generalise. There are many believers who are not interested in trying to convert people and just happy to live and let live. Then there are many atheists who are not happy unless they have tried to convert everyone they know.
People are individuals, everyone is different, everyone believes different things and everyone does different things. I don't think anyone falls into either one camp or the other.

i'm considering resigning as an elder.
i'm not planning to fade or stop as one of jehovah's witnesses, just stop serving as an elder.. i have responsibility in the congregation and in circuit, district, rbc, etc.
and i'm completely exhausted.
CC, my hubby is an elder and he 'stepped down' for a while, though we didn't know for how long. He got together with me to work out the letter together. He was like you and had become exhausted and our marriage was suffering too. We decided that it was in the best interests of our relationship that he had to do it. He used scriptures to show how marriage and family was important, that the jobs he had to do was taking away time we could spend together. How the wife and children come before the congregation. His resignation was accepted (with reluctance) but he was firm with his decision. Could you do the same? Sit down with your wife and discuss how you need to word it, if she can have some imput I'm sure it will have a good effect.

I've read stories in history books about what catholics did to 'heretics' and all in the name of God. I don't think the stories in the bible are much different. They did bad things and all in the name of God. When Jesus came he showed that the God they were teaching about was very different to the one he knew and taught to his disciples.

I really like some of the stories that a poster called 'Amazing' posted. Lots of fun to read, very eye-opening and gob-smacking! I also like the posts by 'Darth Rutherford'. He doesn't post much but they are always very thought provoking.

3. i'm gonna act like an apostate (smoke, drink, drugs, sex, outrageous behavior).
I'm at no.4. I do feel a bit of no.1 and 2 the anger and depression but have generally moved on. I don't want to go off the rails and don't want to get involved in activism. I'm interested in moving forward wherever it may take me. I still believe in God but not religion. I feel optimistic and want to live a happy life (what's left of it). Family is important to me. I don't want to waste what's left of life in case this is all there is but I still have a yearning for spiritual things, although I believe even being atheist or agnostic one can be spiritual (with a love of nature, music, realtionships etc). Is there something after death? I hope so but even if not I can make the most of what I have now. I love reading and learning and I'm finding it's taking me to all sorts of new and interesting places.
I don't get many but I always answer the ones I get. I enjoy getting them but I don't send many because I don't want to be a nuisance and a lot of the time I just like reading.

If you go to the Coliseum don't get ripped off by the 'Gladiators'... they'll have a photo taken with you (using your camera) and then charge you 10E for the privilege!

i'm not baptised but i've been qoute on qoute 'studying' for the past 4-5 years.
i'm almost 20. i've been lurking and i've seen a lot of posts about elderettes.
Hmmmm... well, I suppose you could call me an 'elderette' because hubby is an elder. Guess I'm not typical though and if I could get hubby to step down I would.
I think the 'elderette' bashing is a bit unfortuante. I didn't ask for it and I don't want it. My eyes are fully opened. I've always hated the 'position' I've been put in but had to make the most of it. I'm an introvert and like being left alone. The only reason why I like it is because, with my hubby being an elder, I'm left alone, despite missing loads of meetings/assemblies and doing no FS.
Please don't lump us altogether... I'm no rottweiler!

Brilliant!! If I was listening to this at out hall I'd love it! Someone in the Conscious Class will know for sure that you are also a closet apostate but as for the R&F, they will be nodding their heads thinking of 'evil Christendom'.
