An excellent book for those leaving a mind controlling religion.
by tornapart ini'm in the middle of reading this book and it's very good.
written by a psychologist who had been brought up in a fundamentalist religion she talks all about the difficulties of leaving a mind controlling religion and how to overcome them.
although it talks mainly about evangelical and pentecostal type religions she includes many others too.

Creepy! Looks like something out of Pirates of the Caribbean... Are they trying to tell us they've got their tentacles everywhere?

I haven't been for a couple of weeks. Finding it increasingly difficult. Everytime they say 'God's Organisation', the 'Faithful Slave', the 'Governing Body' even using the name 'Jehovah' over and over again like parrots makes me feel physically ill. The guilt tripping, the 'we must do more, more, more', the emotional blackmailing-ie God won't love us if we don't do this or do that and he will destroy us at Armageddon ... is stressful and anxiety inducing.
Didn't Jesus say the truth would set us free? When I'm at a meeting I feel like I've been wrapped in heavy chains and a iron ball attached to my feet.
Freedom is missing lots of meetings and feeling no guilt whatsoever.

Is asking questions of logic about a Global Flood effective in waking loved ones?
by BU2B ini was thinking about using a tactic of asking questions revolving around "noahs flood" to try to start my wife doing some serious thinking.
unlike doctrine that cannot often be proven one way or another, this issue can be proven beyond the slightest doubt that it is impossible.. i was thinking about asking a question something like this "i was reading about coral reefs today, and they sure are amazing!
what amazed me the most is how long it takes for them to build the reef, and how long they live!

It doesn't wake them up but I have used some things with family. The bible doesn't say the flood was global. I've made the point that it couldn't have been global because how would all of Austrailia's indigenous mammals ALL be marsupials. Why are lemurs only found in the wild on Madagascar? If the flood was global these animals would have been everywhere. It makes them think but I haven't found it changes anything.

An inspirational man who let nothing stand in the way of what he beleived in. He could have taken revenge but he wanted peace and reconciliation, he wanted all races to live together in harmony. Full of integrity, not afraid to speak his mind. Never willing to give in under pressure. He shaped and changed a whole nation. His rainbow nation.
An incredible man that will never be forgotten.

It amazed me how many posted comments. Over 400 in just one day! Plus a few more over the next few days. How many more who don't go on FB, or haven't seen this post, or have seen it but haven't commented? And the guilt that comes through from the ones that have posted... it's heartbreaking!

Richard Dawkins on religion and ethics
by DJS indawkins: religion no moral compass.
by jason miks.
a number of readers noting your skepticism over religions role in society ask whether an absence of religion would leave us without a moral compass?.

Wonder if the WT will use this as a quote in one of their mags.....
" In Western Europe generally, Christianity is dying. Even in America, the figures show that religious adherence is being steadily reduced, and the people who now record themselves as having no religious affiliation is something like 20 percent ."

Interview with an Apostate: Simon
by Simon ini had an idea for coming up with a standard(ish) set of interview questions which members of the ex-jw community could use to provide insights into their lives as a kind of series (yeah, i was thinking of "interview with a vampire", lol).. anyway, this is the result to show the sort of thing i'm thinking of (applied to myself) and i'd like feedback on the format and the questions as well as who you'd also like to see "interviewed".. feel free to provide your own life story as a separate topic or ask any additional questions that i've missed.
it's not meant to be rigid so questions / themes can be adapted as needed and split / joined as appropriate.
the common questions will hopefully apply to everyone for some consistency and to guide the writing process with additional questions asked that make sense to each subject.. well, here goes .... tell us a little about yourself and your family.. im an independent software developer who grew up in manchester (uk) but now lives in calgary (canada) with my wife angharad and two boys, liam and dylan.
