If Luke 16:19-31 is fictional then would that not apply to Matthew 24:45-47 as well
by I_love_Jeff inhow do the jehovah's witnesses determine which parable is to be taken literally, such as matthew 24:45-47, and which one, for example luke 16:19-31, is an allegory?.
are both parables not open to interpretation in the eyes of the jehovah's witnesses?
are they using the eisegetical approach to scripture?.

Does the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" have a free pass to be able to judge others
by I_love_Jeff init seems we have a contradicition here:.
"determining whether someone has gone far enough to be guilty of gross uncleanness or loose conduct is a serious responsibility, for lives are involved.
those judging such cases should do so prayerfully, asking god for his holy spirit, discernment, and understanding.

Elders need to maintain the purity of the congregation and must base their judgment on God's Word as well as on the direction of "the faithful and discreet slave."

"Jehovah can read hearts, while we cannot. This in itself is a good reason for us not to be judgmental. We do not know all of another person's motives. We should try to imitate Jehovah by not fixing our attention on human imperfections, which will eventually disappear."

Why are the Jehovah's Witnesses allowed to call others names such as "Satan" or "viper" for example
by I_love_Jeff inif jesus and jehovah are the only ones who can/allowed to read hearts.
in other words, jesus and jehovah give themselves permission to judge the pharisees/ sadducees.
why are the jehovah's witnesses allowed to call others names such as "satan" or "viper" for example if they are not allowed/able to read hearts?.

I understand that since Jesus said some vicious comments to the Pharisees/Sadducees, such words would be deemed as acceptable to the Jehovah's Witness Dictionary of insults.

A Jehovah's Witness said this to me this morning:
"As for the magic thing, yes the watchtower magazines warn about the dangers involved in some forms of magic. But again, as stated, you will find no specific references to smurfs."
So if the publications do not give reference to a specific movie then it's okay to see Harry Potter???? Does that film not promote magic?

Is "Old Light" really called independent thinking?
by I_love_Jeff inwhen "old light" becomes "new light" sometime down the line the "new light" will eventually become old.
i do realize the superiors use passages (aka word magic) to explain such a big change.
what would be the difference between holy spirit revelation vs. man's opinion in this particular situation?

What would be the difference between Holy Spirit revelation vs. man's opinion in this particular situation? Since Holy Spirit never makes a mistake, are the Superiors actually using independent thinking and/or possessed by other spirits when switching from "old light" to "new"?

Is their understanding of unity a form of mind control?
by I_love_Jeff innote the following comments and research taken from a concise dictionary of cults and religions:.
what [jehovah's witnesses] define as unity is actually, in effect, a rigid organizational structure and policy.
unity, as the bible teaches it, is a oneness of spirit and humility under the lordship of jesus christ.

Note the following comments and research taken from A Concise Dictionary of Cults and Religions:
What [Jehovah's Witnesses] define as unity is actually, in effect, a rigid organizational structure and policy. Unity, as the Bible teaches it, is a oneness of spirit and humility under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. (Romans 12:15-16; 14:19; 15:5-7; 1 Peter 3:8)
"Accordingly, as Jehovah's people, we are united because we accept Jehovah's sovereignty, love our brothers, hope in God's Kingdom, and respect the ones God uses to take the lead among us. Jehovah helps us to overcome certain attitudes that because of our imperfection could otherwise threaten our unity.-Rom. 12:2."
"Because present-day elders cooperate with the faithful and discreet slave class, all in the congregation are encouraged and assisted to remain united. (1 Cor. 1:10) When we submit to the Bible-based instruction from Jehovah's organization and follow the direction of the elders, we give proof that we are "earnestly endeavoring to observe the oneness of the spirit in the uniting bond of peace."-Eph. 4:3."
