Let me check the Watchtower Library on the CD-ROM. I'm sure the answer is in there somewhere...

I know the wheels of bureaucracy are slow, by why hasn't New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation done anything? Why not also sent this to a federal agency as well? And the media? In all that time, they may have gotten their act together and the evidence is long faded.

Watchtower doctrines failed or discredited in the past 20 years -
by james_woods inthe several threads on the literal 144,000 got me to thinking about this: it is getting pretty obvious that the literal 144,000 is at least getting very questionable and likely will not be able to stand long without a serious remodeling.
what else has fallen by the wayside?
i thought of these -.

They cannot divorce themselves from 1914 without losing the basis for Authoritarism. Without 1914, there is no 1918/1919 judgement of Christendom and selection of a "Faithful Slave".
And with blood...after so many lost their lives because of their "conscience", with some losing even their children, how can they suddenly let it be okay now? Many would wake up and see that it was for nothing. The floodgates of Litigation might pour in--a class action lawsuit for sure.
Some teachings and practices are like a cowboy riding a wild bull, they cannot get down gently. They have to cling on to some things for dear life and tighten the reins of authority.

Armageddon Part II
by LostGeneration inone of the things that bothered me as a jw growing up was the idea that there would be a second armageddon.
they don't phrase it that way, but what else could it be when you read stuff like this from the 3/15 wt.. "obedient humans will gradually be set free from enslavement to corruption.
if they remain faithful to jehovah throughout the millennium and during the final test that will come at the end of it, their names will be permanently written in the scroll of life.

Blondie,
From my understanding, in Witness Theology, the 144000 are immortal--the second death does not hard them. They cannot be destroyed and they cannot rebel against God.

Yes, this was the Belief I struggled with the most when I was a Witness. That a loving God would destroy billions everlastingly during Armageddon.
In fact, the thought that if I didn't do well in the preaching work, I might be bloodguilty and get destroyed myself...or there would be some rule that I didn't follow, perhaps a book I shouldn't have read or watched a movie (for instance Lord of the Rings) or did some other thing and get judged adversly. And yet Hitler and evil people like him might get a resurrection...but I felt doomed.
At the very least they don't teach eternal torment like other Fundamentalists.

A shout out to all those shunned by family...
by Luke inhello people.

Thanks, Luke.
In the organization, friends become family also, and there are friends sticking closer than a brother. It really hurts to lose them, as well as my flesh and blood family.
I love the Witnesses. I was one of them. I know thier pain, how they think, how they feel. But I dislike the religion that enslaves them, that disallows them from allowing them to love their fellowman. And I loathe the leadership, who are every bit the Man of Lawlessness as Christendom's Hierarchy is.

WT cautions against playing pac-man 1982 Awake
by EndofMysteries inwith bizarre names like pac-man, asteroids, space invaders, battlezone and donkey kong, video games have landed themselves not only in amusement arcades but also in corner drugstores, supermarkets, gas stations, fast-food parlors and nearly everywhere else that people congregate.
their beeps and booms and colorful lights have captured the fancy and imagination of a new generation of players to the point of obsession.. other than the obvious appeal to teenagers and its commercial success, the proliferation of arcade video games has triggered reactions ranging from strong parental protests to outright government bans.
in the philippines, president marcos officially banned the games and gave owners two weeks to destroy them.

Ah this brings back memories. I remember my family debating whether playing video games, with the flashing lights and sounds, would hypnotize me, and put me under demonic control. In the end, I was allowed to play Ms Pacman, Defender, Q-Bert, ect... though sometimes I wondered if I were doing something that would get me destroyed during the Big A. It seems so silly now.

Did the "Truth" really have the "Ring Of Truth"?
by ssn587 inwhen we were initially taken in by the supposed ring of truth that the watchtower espoused, we came to find out that in reality the supposed ring of truth was actually handcuffs and prison garb.
once they have you there is no way of leaving without them shooting at you trying to kill you with viturpretive (spelling) mouthings, slander, and a complete absence of human feelings..

Being a born-in, 3rd generation (from both sides of the family), I had no other frame of reference. I never stood a chance.
And like wha happened? said, the opposition seemed like raving lunitics. The "evil slave" was scary and only reenforced in my mind that I had the "truth".
