Stranger asks about your kids mental wellness. ..
by purrpurr inlast night at the meeting there was a suggested presentation about the new mags, which cover the issue of depression in minors.
the jw jumps straight from "hi how are ya" to "how is your kids mental well-being " and of course the hh is more than happy to discuss the inner workings of their child's mind with a stranger whose just knockedmon their door(!).
if it was me i'd be majorly creeper out!.

We deserve to die
by elfgoblin inat the meeting today, we were reading the watchtower and this elder apologetically said to such a degree in regards to romans 5:12 that "we humans are not worthy of any mercy from jehovah.
we shouldn't even have free will because we can't possibly do anything good enough to please jehovah.
we don't even deserve life because of sin.

This is the theology of "undeserved kindness"...a term Watchtower has used instead of "grace". Rather than focus on grace or kindness, like other Christian denominations, the word "undeserved" comes to the fore and hits people over the head.
However, the word "undeserved" is not in the Greek...
I remember an elder said this to my ex-wife when she was disfellowshipped. The thought was: everyone deserves death, whatever we get over top of that, like being born, is "undeserved kindness" and we should be grateful.

Apparently, William Tyndale was an early J-Dub?
by My Name is of No Consequence inmy wife and son were watching the january broadcast and one of the segments was about william tyndale.
william tyndale was a bible translator in the early 16th century.
i always knew that the org held men like tyndale, john hus and john wycliffe in high regard.

No, since 2013, the Faithful Slave was appointed in 1919 and is essentially the Governing Body, not the "anointed remnant". The anointed and the "other sheep" are now together the "domestics".
Matthew 24:45 has now been disconnected with the Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds.

1914 to be abandoned around 2016
by Alfred inthe other day i was doing some research about "1914" for a friend on my wt cd library (spanish) and i found it quite interesting that the number of times "1914" is mentioned in the watchtower magazine during the previous 3 decades has been dropping exponentially as follows.... 1980-1989: mentioned 854 times.
1990-1999: mentioned 492 times.
2000-2009: mentioned 222 times.

Yeah, Tyndale had a beard, and would not have been allowed to carry a microphone. But that's okay: microphones hadn't been invented yet!

It has always been portrayed that way.
Back when the teaching that the Faithful Slave was all the anointed on earth at a given time appointed from the year 33, it was taught there was always a few faithful anointed ones on earth serving spiritual food at the proper time. Tyndale seemed like one of these candidates according to this teaching.

Why did C T Russell choose 606 BC?
by shepherdless ini recently commented on a thread in relation to the 607 bc - 1914 ad calculation, listing problems with the logic and mathematics.
afterwards, i wondered what made ct russell choose 606 bc in the first place.
here is my research so far.. i had read somewhere a suggestion that 606 bc was a number ct russell got from nathan balbour who in turn got it from william miller of the millerites.

John Aquila Brown did come up with the whole 2520 year concept. I believe his endpoint for the 2520 years was 1917.
