1914 to be abandoned around 2016

The other day I was doing some research about "1914" for a friend on my WT CD Library (spanish) and I found it quite interesting that the number of times "1914" is mentioned in the Watchtower magazine during the previous 3 decades has been dropping exponentially as follows...

    1980-1989: mentioned 854 times

    1990-1999: mentioned 492 times

    2000-2009: mentioned 222 times

Now I don't pretend to be a statistician... However, at this rate it appears that 1914 will stop being mentioned in the Watchtower magazine by the time the October 2016 magazine is printed... I just wonder if the discontinuation of this teaching will be as a result of "new light" (like the overlapping generations) or if they will simply abandon this date quitely (like they did with 1935 back in 2007)... the next few years are going to be very interesting...

Very interesting thread. To be honest, I would not be suprised if 1914 is abadoned altogether much early than 2016. The' overlapping generations' teaching is the 'new kid on the block'

The TMS for 2011 has 1914 as a topic right through the year.

The public WT is now once a month and is just window dressing, so that should cut the mentions of 1914 down. E.g. In 2010 it only got one mention in a public issue, and that was only referring to WWI. There are 17 mentions in the Koolaid editions.

Remember that they have tied their 'selected' doctrine to the 1914 calculations and abandoning it has to be done without trashing their authority and giving their sales team an excuse to stay home.

I think the only "dropping" will be as you noticed- less attention paid to the year 1914. They never officially dropped their 1976 excuse that the end didn't come yet because nobody knows how many years passed between Adam's creation and Eve's creation. So my mother still holds on to that one. But in reality, they have just moved beyond that. They never officially dropped the teaching that each "creative day" was 7000 years long, but highlighted that each one was "several" thousands of years long.

Somehow, their goofy overlap generations stuff will be dropped silently along with 1914.

I think that it will be eventually dropped for good, when that happens is questionable.

I do think that 2014 will make quite a pivotal year with the WTS.

100 years and absolutely nothing to show for it doesn't create a sense of viability.

As the WTS always markets itself as god's only channel of communication on earth, its

imperative to wash out doctrines that does not support that interal agenda.

1914 and the glorious return of Christ was a marketing scheme in the first place to attract the publics attention to the WTS literature.

But like so many of the WTS proclamations, commercialization of litaure was at the purposeful core.

I don't think they ever give up 1914 since they claim it the end of gentile times and tie it to the jewish exile to babylon and the seven times in Daniel. if they were going to change it , I think they would have with the generation change. It's not like they are afraid of being wrong since they never get it right the first time and have fantastic explanations that circumvent the admission of error on behalf of the org. After all they never said they were infallible ...... blah blah yadda yadda God cannot lie ....

As the statistics show, I think they will "fade" 1914 out of JWs' minds by mentioning it less and less rather than announcing the new light of a different date.

If pressed, they will still say it was the date of Jesus' invisible parousia.

With the overlapping generations, the amount of time elapsed since 1914 will lose significance.

If pressed for an explanation of why Jesus has waited 100 years, they will say that because of the faithful witnessing of JWs, Jehovah is mercifully giving people a lot of time to repent.

Nevertheless, people shouldn't presume on Jehovah's continued patience; the end is coming soon.

Religion in American is based on a free market arrangement, so each organization can market themselves

in any which way they like as long as it appears viable to the public.

The original creators of the WTS knew this completely and exploited this arrangement to the fullest.

Being that the WTS financially survives off the proceeds of its literature placements, is it really surprising that there would be so much

corruption spewing out the mouths of these people. I don't don't find it surprising one bit.

1914 and 1874, though not completely understood in the past are still Biblically significant for the JIOR. That is, the woman depicted in Revelation who flees from Satan when he is cast out of heaven.

1874 is the generation of 120 years of "Noah" that ends in 1994. This is the time when "Michael stands up" - Daniel 12:1

1914 is a generation of 80 years which also ends in 1994 but that would see all the signs that are mentioned. This is the year when "nation vs nation and kingdom vs kingdom" begins; that is, when a world war kicks of the so-called "last generation." Everything that was to occur must occur during this last generation with the last event noted being the second coming and the appearance of the glorious "sign of the son" of man. Due to some mistranslation and misinterpretation, many of the signs are missed. I'll briefly check them off the main ones for you:

24:7 This is the beginning of the last generation, nation vs nation = the 1st world war. Of course, there were food shortages (Great Depression). The "earthquakes" in one place after another should be translated more generally as "tremors" or "agitations" and is a reference to social unrest and instability in one place after another. The Greek word can be used to describe other kinds of disturbances like a tempest or an unruly crowd. The context of these signs is comment on the social status and people, not natural events. Thus "tumults" in one place of the other is more accurate and we know from WWI leading into WWII there was much political and social instability. These things were said to be the "beginning" of the pangs of distress.

24:9-12 This refers to the betrayal, false prophets and persecution of both Jews and Jehovah's witnesses.

24:13 "Because of the increasing of lawlessness the love of the greater number will cool off." In the context of these events affecting the focus of Jews and JWs, the "greater number" refers to the natural Jews. Thus this catalogues the increase in antisemitism that would occur leading up to WWII.

24:14 The "good news" being preached world wide would occur just before the "end" occurred. The "end" here is the end of the "system of things" of gentile rule and thus the end of the so-called "gentile times" or appointed times of the nations. That is, the end of Jewish exile and the restoration of the Jews to their Promised Land. That event occurred on November 30, 1947 when the Jews regained their own country. By then, the "good news" indeed had been preached worldwide. But interestingly, earlier that year, NH Knorr did go on a worldwide preaching tour. This is thus specifically fulfilled by that preaching tour and a confirmation that the "good news" preached by JWs had gone global by 1947. The "end" of the gentile times did occur in 1947 after this "good news" was preached world wide, so that was fulfilled as well.

24:15-22 deals with the "great tribulation", which was the Holocaust. The "disgusting thing causing desolation in a holy place" was the Nazi regime attacking Jews and JWs. The "holy place" also presented the highest concentration of Jews in exile, which was Warsaw, Poland. This city was literally surrounded by the Nazis before they took it over. This was the time to flee to the mountains before the walled in ghettos were created and then liquidated in the death camps at Dachau, Chelmo, Treblinka and other places. Of course, women with small children couldn't flee unless they abandoned their children, so that literal hardship was a reality. JWs, of course, think the great tribulation is a reference to Armageddon which is ridiculous. Why would women with no children be favored at Armageddon? And how could anyone flee from God's wrath by hiding in the mountains? So no, this specific "great tribulation" is a reference to the Holocaust as we shall see in verse 29. Where it says the "days were cut short or else no flesh would be saved" is a reference to the natural Jews. "Flesh" is a reference to the natural Jews in the Bible. The "great tribulation" was to last 7 years in which 2/3rds of the Jews would be exterminated. (Zech 13:8). But by late 1944 the death camps were winding down and already 6 million Jews out of 9 million had been exterminated. So WWII had to be ended. If Hitler took over the world then all the Jews in Europe were in danger of complete extermination. So America was brought into the war and the campaign in Russia met with a severe winter. This slowed Hitler down and the war ended in the Spring of 1945. But the end of the exile still did not occur until the specified time of 1947, which marked the 70th jubilee (49 years).

24:23-28 covers some details of the coming messiah. One detail is that while the "eagles" would know who he is from birth, they would keep this a complete secret. They would not tell anyone where or who he was. He would be in a physical body. Thus verse 28 says, "wherever the carcass is, so the eagles will be gathered." Thus the "eagles", the "two witnesses" of the secret anointed would monitor and mentor the messiah from birth. He would have a private life until he officially became the messiah after being tested 40 years. But at some point all the elect would get to see him. But that appearance would be like "lightning." Lightning is bright, shines from horizon to horizon, but it is just a flash. So you have to be looking at the right time, or you'd miss it. Turns out this was fulfilled by a couple of national television appearances including one syndicated program that appeared in Canada and Europe. So by this means, if you were tuned in to the right time and station, you could get a glimpse of the physical messiah. But again, as lightning is just a flash, he would not appear publicly for a continuous time.

24:29 Ahh, one of my favorite verses. This clearly says, "Immediately after the tribulation of those days..." After means after. That means after the tribulation was over is when the messiah would arrive. So this is another verse that confirms the "great tribulation" of Matthew 24 is not a reference to Armageddon as the WTS thinks, but to the Holocaust. At any rate, that is when the "sign of the son of man" would begin to appear. The new messiah was born early in 1950 so the "tribulation of those days" includes the time of exile leading up to the end of the exile in late 1947. So it was about 2+ years later that the messiah appears. Also note the "fig tree" budding (verse 23) is a reference to when the State of Israel would reappear, which must occur just before the messiah appears stating he is "near at the doors" at that point. That occurred in the Spring of 1948, so in less than two years the new messiah was born.

Now per the "1335 days" prophecy, the messiah would become the official Christ 45 years after the "end of the gentile times." That is, 1947 ended the 1290 days and so the Christ must appear in 1992. At this point we notice that 1992 is still within the generation of 80 years from 1914, which ends in 1994.

    Meaning?

Meaning 1914 is Biblically relevant as the beginning of the "last generation" that would see the Christ appear prior to 1994. It is not the "end of the gentile times" which occurred in 1947. It is not the end of the "7 times" or the date of the second coming which occurs in 1992. If Christ in haven in 1992 takes up the physical body of the new messiah born in 1950 to fulfill the 1335 days linked to 1947, then we know that the fall of Jerusalem did not occur in any 607 BCE. 1992 requires the 19th year of Nebuchadnezzar II to fall in 529 BCE. But that's no problem for the elect now because of the VAT4956. That text was created to hide the original Babylonian timeline dating for year 37 of Neb2, which had been revised by the Persians. Thus the secondary dating in the VAT4956 is 511 BCE found in lines 3 and 14. In that case, of course, year 19, the year of Jerusalem's fall would be dated to none other than 529 BCE. That's not a coincidence. That's real. 539 BCE, which is the "pivotal date" used by JWs for its 607 BC date is revised like every other current Babylonian date.

But this date must harmonize with other prophecies such as the "70 weeks" prophecy as well. That requires 455 BCE to be the year the "word goes forth to rebuild Jerusalem." So how is that harmonized with 529 BCE and the VAT4956? Well the last deportation occurs in year 23, which is 525 BCE. That is exactly 70 years prior to the 1st of Cyrus when the work of rebuilding first begun. 70 years after 525 BCE is none other than 455 BCE. The first-coming messiah appears 483 years after this and thus in 29 CE, which is when he was baptized. So everything is completely harmonized both Biblically and secularly.

This is final and absolute. Anybody think they are smart enough to try to redeem the current false timeline has to begin to explain the double-dating in the VAT4956. That has to be overcome first before any other references are brought up. This text preempts this timelline because it contains both the revised dating and the original. It hides the original within over a 100 revised dates, so it not only confirms the fake dates and the conspiracy to revise the astronomical texts, it gives us the original chronology which completely agrees with the Bible.

CONCLUSION: The WTS is "clueless" as to what to expect in regards to 1914. Since they don't understand what to look for, they missed understanding the Christ would appear in 1992. Since they are also confused about Armageddon, they figure Christ has not arrived yet and they keep extending the generation beyond 1994 to keep their hopes up. But the messiah did get anointed as the Christ (i.e. Christ came down from heaven to inhabit the body of the secret messiah born in 1950) in 1992 and thus within a "generation" of 1914.

So as usual, while the apostate WTS is in the dark and is the ultimate "false prophet", the Bible remains true. JWs did serve as the "temple in its right condition" at first, but now has been abandoned as apostate. Both covenants with the Jews and JWs ended in 1996.

So whether the Bible is true or any prophesies are fulfilled, depends on if you have the right interpretation provided to you by Jehovah or if you are among those in the dark who might be tempted to think the Bible isn't being fulfilled. I'm of the elect so I have "insider" knowledge of the true fulfillments.

You're welcome. Get ready for Armageddon, hopefully by December 2012!! That's another post though.

It might be disappearing from the Watchtower magazine, however the two Isaiah books must have mentioned 1914 about a zillion times each. The answer to every paragraph was either that Jesus started ruling in 1914 or that the Watchtower escaped Babylonish captivity in 1918 (or is that 1919?).
