I did JW Defended when I was In. At the time, I found it a good read. Better than anything the Society was churning out!

Can someone please help me?
by ruderedhead inhello, i'm new to posting here, although i have been reading and gaining insight for quite a while.
thank you to all of you.. i wrote a letter of disassociation this week, and sent it to the local kh.
i have been faded for a number of years, and after much research, know that the witnesses do not have the truth.

We all make mistakes like this. I know I've done it. You should read Captives of a Concept if you have not already. It shows in detail how the veil is put over their eyes.
Rutherford was a lawyer who played substitute judge only on four occasions. It's like calling a subsitute CO, a CO, when he's only subsituted during four meetings.

In Search of Christian Freedom was even more of an eye opener for me than was Crisis of Conscience. Up to that point, I believed the early Christian went from door-to-door. However, this is not the case at all. Door-to-door is a counterproductive way of spreading any message, it only annoys people. It is sadistic to force people to go door-to-door, telling them that if they don't, God is going to kill them.
After his ouster from the GB, but before they found a way to throw him into the lion's pit, if Brother Franz went door-to-door, it was most likely a way to preserve his fellowship with his congregation and help his brothers.
Someone said, 'if he had been treated better he would never have awakened'. Heck--if I hadn't been disfellowshipped, I wouldn't have awakened. I would have been a mind-controlled robot wondering why God's organization wasn't adhering to the lessons of Jesus more closely. I think many here probably can attest to this.
Like Brother Franz, I love the Witnesses as a people. I feel like the Apostle Paul did in regard of having "great grief and unceasing pain in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were separated as the cursed one from the Christ in behalf of my brothers". And again, " the goodwill of my heart and my supplication to God for them are, indeed, for their salvation. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God…" I still view them as "my people", even though I do no longer believe the Society's doctrines. I know how they could be, if they were allowed to flourish.

Ding said, 'They would go right back in if the organization were run by people like Ray Franz.'
It would cease being a cult and rechannel the energy of the Witnesses into more fruitful endevours. I suspect membership would swell.
Of course, there would be less of an organization. I do wonder: What would Ray do? (imagining if the reigns were turned over to him in the 80's?)
* He would most likely disband the printing business, liquidate vast propery holdings.
* I suspect there would be home congergations. No need for "Kingdom Halls".
* The main textbook would really be the Bible.
* There would likely be a name change revolving around the name Christian.

If this were my phone conference, he wouldn't be allowed back after he couldn't identify the magazine in advance--in fact, if he didn't know about the stipend or what time Morning Worship is. It's a very simple test of credibility. He failed. How does he have all this 'top secret' information, but he doesn't have the basic info that all Bethelites know? Occam's razor says: 'Fraud!'
I'd be delighted to be wrong.

Done!
I selected the Christian part...but I wasn't crazy about the "born again" thing, it reminds me of Bible-thumping fire and brimstone fundamentalists. My heart leans from non-denominational Christian moderate, heavily leaning toward the idea of universal salvation.

Weskerbouts,
Welcome to JWN. I'm sorry to hear about your disfellowshipping. I myself confessed to the elders and was disfellowshipped. I realized that something was not right, that Christianity was not being practiced in the organization, and especially in regard to disfellowshipping. You still have value in the eyes of God and Christ, they have not disfellowshipped you.
My advice is to read Crisis of Conscience and In Search of Christian Freedom by Ray Franz. Also Combatting Cult Mind Control by Steven Hassan. Read, read, read.
Whether to seek reinstatement or not is a personal decision, but as you know, you can't help your friends that are still in from the outside (most likely they won't talk to you). If you do get back, then you can work on carefully freeing them.

Subjugation of Women
by Band on the Run inthis area bothered me even more than the ban on college.
i was born a feminist, popped out that way.
before the women's movement, i hated their attitude of hating women.
