Excellent work, apocalypse. But, have you ever heard the quip, "My mind's made up, so don't try to confuse me with facts!" Unfortunately, that's the attitude of most of the JW rank and file. The fact of the matter is, most of the faithful have only a very superficial grasp of what they preach, especially in areas such as chronology. Furthermore, they feel no particular need for a deeper understanding. They just let "the faithful and discreet slave" understand it for them. But whether or not one is able to get this information across to any active JW, it certainly serves to sharpen the vision of those who have begun to peek through the veil.

How to help a JW using 607, 1914 stuff.
by apocalypse inthe following information was prepared for the benefit of those who are endeavoring to assist a close friend or relative who is a jehovahs witness.
it is intended to aid a person who wishes to, in a non-confrontational manner, approach the vital foundational issue with respect to the primary doctrine of jehovahs witnesses.
it can be done without the recipient of the information even becoming aware of your intentions.

Nothing, really. Just a little feeble Texas redneck humor. A fellow in these parts would be careful about telling his ex's pappy he was screwing around, even if he was a JW! But then, they probably don't have rednecks in Tyler's neck of the woods.

The Judgment Day
by Calvinist02 inwhat are you going to do when you get judged before the lord.... romans 2:12 .

"What are you going to do when you get judged before the Lord..."
Well, assuming this actually does happen and assuming this is "the Lord" of the Bible we're talking about here, I'm going to raise my hand as politely as I can and, if called on, ask as respectfully as I can:
"Lord, I know this is supposed to be about my sins and all and I'm not really trying to get around whatever I've got coming, but Lord, you know that lady in Texas, Andrea Yates, who drowned her five little innocent kids in the name of doing "the Lord's" will? Well, I was just wondering what you thought of that? Do you think she deserved the death penalty for that? And, if you don't mind me asking Lord, while we're on the subject of drowning little innocent children and such, I was just wondering exactly what your point was in drowning all those little guys back in Noah's day? Just in case you're gonna zap me into oblivion here in a few minutes Lord, I'd just kinda like to know before I go!"

"God has always been eternal. He has never changed. The only thing that has changed is man's definition of God which seems to change as man looks for new and better ways to control other men."
CoolBreeze,
I'm sincerely happy for you, man! But I can't help by wonder, exactly what brought you to the perception of "God" you now hold? Care to elaborate?

Benefits to strengthing SOCIAL ties between us?
by Pathofthorns ini realize my comments are a bit wordy and my thoughts scattered, but i just thought i'd toss this out.
in the past, jw's argued on doctrine and the xjw community argued also on doctrine.
these days many jw's are no longer able to argue their own beliefs and the xjw communty has less interest in discussing jw doctrine or christian doctrine.

"I like the way it is in everyday life, one on one, if you develope a friendship if based on reality, not some percieved goal or agenda."
I'm with you, Danny Bear. I don't consider myself part of any particular community, simply because I'm no longer a JW. In fact, one of the things I enjoy most about being an xJW, is the freedom to just be me, without feeling compelled to support or promote any particular group or agenda.
"For many leaving the WT, life can be very scary and lonely." I'm sure that's true and I can appreciate the fact there are a great many xJWs who need to feel a comaraderie with others who have taken a like course or just feel they are a part of something. If they can find a way to help fill that need through forums like this, I think that's great. For me, it's just an enjoyable way of getting to express my individuality.
But, that's just me!

Is religion hampering the progress of humanity?
by happysunshine inis religion hampering the progress of humanity?
is it an outdated 'caveman' notion that just keeps getting redressed in new clothes?

One of the biggest problems I see with religion, especially in the twenty-first century, is that it takes a system of beliefs and elevates it to a station of absolute truth and infallibility, to be reverenced and without question. Once an individual embraces any system of beliefs as such, they will all too often sacrifice logic and common sense upon it's alter. They no longer seek truth, they seek support for and validation of their religion. In that pursuit, real truths are distorted and information is manipulated to support and conform to their religion. I believe that, indeed, does hamper the progress of humanity. Any philosophy which restrains clear and free thought and objectivity is certainly outdated, in my opinion.
However, it is also my opinion that not every system of beliefs held in reverence is, what we commonly think of as, a religion. Many individuals who have embraced such theories as evolution or "the big bang", are just as closed-minded as any JW or Southern Baptist erver thought about being. Such interpretaions of the history of life on this earth can sometimes be just as blindly dogmatic as the ravings of a militant Islamic. Regardless of whether it relates to religion, science, the history of man or whatever, humanity needs an open mind and a willingness to recognize and correct error.
But, that's just me!
