Welcome James, on behalf of all the rest of us who post comments here which are not always "totally welcomed"! If you've hung around this forum any at all, I'm sure you know there's a wide spectrum of mind-sets here. But that's a good thing. It's good to get more than one or two perspectives on an issue. Even when they seem totally absurd or eve piss you off, it's a hell of a lot better than a bunch of mindless drones who complacently nod in agreement with whatever is put before them.
And by the way, I can relate to your feelings, with regard to the loss of old friends. Regardless of what that organization, as a whole, may be, there are indeed a lot of very good individuals still in it's grasp.

Revenge, should I or shouldn't I.............
by Delite2k inhey everyone, i haven't been here in a while, but i thought i'd drop by say hello and ask a silly question.
i still think about my ex (a jw) still, but i'm also angry with him for hurting me emotionaly and somewhat spiritualy.
(you can read my old post under this name to get an idea of what i talked about before) i feel like i want to get him back for the way he's made me feel.

If you really want revenge, try just getting on with your life and finding a little happiness and contentment, minus the asshole! None of us can change that which has already happened and the longer we hang on to it or wallow in it the less time we've got for something better in our lives. It's not easy, but try your best to let it go. Carrying a grudge is kind of like carrying a dead armadillo on a rope around your neck. At first it gets a lot of attention and makes for interesting conversation, but the longer you wear it the worse it stinks and the less people want to be around you, until finally, your the only one suffering from the stench and the armadillo sure as hell ain't getting any better!

Should we care about "lurkers"?
by expatbrit inive noticed some discussion on the question of whether we should be concerned about moderating our behaviour because of what lurking jws will think.
should we be concerned about scaring off jws who may be starting to question the wt, or should anything go because if they can't deal with the real world it's not our problem and we should be ourselves?.
the following are some of my thoughts.

My wife and I were both raised as JWs. I've not associated with the organization for over twenty years. My wife still regularly attends meetings and goes in field service. We will have our forty-first wedding anniversary in February, provided we're both still around. We have a great marriage and a great relationship and we are more truly in love today than ever before. We have great times together, dancing, motorcycling, traveling, or just going for walks. I think one of the keys is that we both have come to accept, love and respect each other for the individual we each are and neither of us are on any campaign to make the other into someone we're not. Another key is, my wife is a little unusual for a JW. She believes there is a lot more to each of us than being or not being a Witness. She believes the Witnesses have "the truth", in a general sense, but she also believes her relationship with Jehovah is personal. (You know, the kind the society has always preached but never really wanted anyone to actually have!) She allows her consceince to guide her in a number of issues "the society" would not really approve. As an example, we have four grown daughters who are all DF'd or DA'd, but she does not shun them. She recognizes all of them as good, decent people and treats them as such. And she treats them like her children. I respect her immensely for that.
One other thing: My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer two and a half years ago. She went through chemotherapy, had a double mastectomy, went through more chemo and radiation and now apprears to have it whipped. That ordeal gave our entire family a new perspective on life. It made us all realize how very much we all mean to each other and how priceless the love we share daily truly is.

THINK ETERNITY=MC2
by hannibal in" ever so gingerly, science has been backing away from its case-closed attitude toward the transcendent unknown.
confrences that bring together theologians and physicists are hot, recently taking place to harvard, the smithsonian, and other big deal institutions.
the american association for the advancement of science now sponcers a 'dialogue on science, ethics, and religion'.

"On social graces I can buy that line but on the stuff like God/eternity etc it's a cry baby attitude of someone who is mad cause other people are ignoring them - IMO."
Hmmmm.... This might take some time. (Closes eyes and scratches head.) Think rationally, dammit! Think rationally! I know I can figure out what the hell this guys talking about, if I just manage to think rationally!

Judge Bans Shunning
by Farkel intoday i spoke with a former jw i've been in touch with for several years and discovered what i think could be a major bombshell for the wts.
as we all know, shunning is the most powerful weapon the wt cult has over its members and for decades the wts has been able to get away with practicing it at their whim.
the us and other courts have permitted them to to use it, even though it destroys families and has ruined countless lives.
-
MYOHNSEPH
You're right Farkel, the positive repercussions of something like this could be exponential! But I'm not gonna get my hopes up too soon. We're talking about some slippery dudes here, especially when they bring their big guns out in court. And this ain't their first rodeo! It'll really be interesting to see how this developes.

The Judgment Day
by Calvinist02 inwhat are you going to do when you get judged before the lord.... romans 2:12 .
"for all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law.".

"Myohnseph, it sounds like youre comparing yourself to other people, perhaps to justify yourself in some way."
Well, you've really got me figured out, Sangdigger! As Hannibal Lecter would say, "I am astounded by your acumen!"
