Four Horsemen ...and an Apocalypse (a memoir)
by Terry infour horsemen ...and an apocalypse.
the bar sign on top of the ramshackle building reads: “the four horsemen”.. my best friend bob yells for me to hear him once we stepped inside the door.. “...hangout spot... motorcycle ‘club... the punishers...” that’s all i could hear because of the loud music.. jukebox music pounded my head.
the click-clack of the pool tables, outbursts of laughter, and loud voices filled my ears till they rang.. eventually, i learned that the punishers are a brotherhood of law enforcement officers, court officials, correctional officers; and like-minded individuals.. did the strange critters in this bar look like anything but worrisome outlaws?

Where to begin?
I'll just pull out one of my favorites -
Jehovah was with Judah, and they took possession of the mountainous region, but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the plain,* because they had war chariots with iron scythes. - Judges 1:19
War Chariots with Iron Scythes > Jehovah

I have never been to Las Vegas.

I've been to Nevada several times, but to Las Vegas only once. Nevada is basically a desert, but that can be beautiful. I've visited the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe which is amazing. The old silver mining towns are a great time, too.

Ezekiel's Temple Vision Changed
by IWant2Leave init was nauseating to listen to the book study the past week on zoom.
old timers, and elders who have served for decades took the change of the vision in ezekiel chapter 40 thru 48 without blinking an eye.
just drank it down.

I would love to ask the Book Study Conductor/Congregation this question -
"How does this new understanding of Ezekiel help us as Christians care for the sick, the poor, widows, and orphans like Jesus commanded us to?"
The religion of Jehovah's Witnesses is a simple one - believe and repeat whatever the Watchtower tells us and salvation is yours.

Bank Bail-Out / Bail-In
by Simon inremember the last financial crisis, where there as a bail-out of the banks?.
have you ever stopped to think what the "out" part of bail-out means?
normally you think of bailing water out of a boat, or maybe jumping out of a plane, but in financial terms the "out" means "outside money".

Here is a phrase I learned when my wife and I started educating ourselves on investing our money -
"Cash is trash."
Due to COVID and just other lifestyle changes we saw our bank account/savings growing. That money just sat there not making more than 1% interest. We invested heavily in dividend stocks and crypto. We are doing well on crypto and the stocks are steady.
As soon as there was talk of increasing capital gains taxes, those with a great deal of money dusted off an old play book - investing in precious metals and artwork became popular again.
Fiat currency, like the U.S. dollar, is not a stable means of holding wealth. Not only does the value of the U.S. dollar fluctuate, but inflation takes a little bite off the biscuit every day. Money does not equal wealth.

How do JW feel about CBD?
by Iamallcool ini am not so sure if i am willing to discuss cbd with my jw aunt.

I do not know since CDB is a relatively knew thing and I have not been a JW for over a decade. It wouldn't surprise me to hear some typical Watchtower talk about how "It's not whether Jehovah approves or disapproves, but it's about whether or not you stumble your fellow brother." This is hypocritical word salad for "drugs are bad. M'kay?"
Think of all the JWs past, future, and present regularly washing down their prescription opioids with a beer. That's ok because one is from a doctor and the other is alright in "moderation". However, anything to do with the Devil's Lettuce (Marijuana) is a form of spiritism (pharmekia in Greek New Testament).

The Bible - God's Word or Man's
by truth_b_known inthat is the title of one of the watchtower's seemingly endless list of books that was pushed out for sale placement in the jehovah's witness' ministry.
the title does ask a great question.
those who would deny that the bible is divine in origin usually point to failed prophecy, events that do not mesh with historic evidence, scientific evidence, or even plagiarism from other religions.

Also, Paul was an Over zealous religious freak who wrote down things based on assumptions and rumours.
I have also read that John was the same way. Both John and Paul believed the end would come before they died.

If you think Watchtower is disappearing any time soon…
by Reservations inyou are sadly mistaken.. i hear people say it on here all the time, and dare i say his name *cough* lloyd evans *cough* has said it a number of times, that watchtower is running scared and watchtower is in decline….. we need to put in perspective the decrease from the 2020 report.
if we calculate a yearly -0.6 decrease over a 10 year period from 2020 figures it leaves us the grand total number of witnesses of:.
by 2030: - 7,933,479. by 2040: - 7,471,357. by 2050: - 7,036,154. i agree that this is a significant decrease, but let’s not kid ourselves, the wt organisation will still be alive and well even with an annual 0.6% loss.

Totally going away in the near future? Probably not.
Re-structuring the business? Most definitely.
I see the Watchtower transitioning from a company that publishes printed word and using Jehovah's Witnesses as a tax exemption instrument to a 21st century version of a tv evangelism company using Jehovah's Witnesses as tax exemption.

1995 generation change
by Gorb innow, many years later, i remember the 1995 generation change, very well.. since early youth, hearing my father explaining in field service the 2520 years.
it was his main theme in the field.. with the change my doubts started.
with some jw friends we did not trust the organization anymore.

I remember someone putting a newspaper clipping of an article covering this on the congregation information board back in 1995. The writer quoted a woman who stated she was a Witness, but quit when the doctrine change happened. I hate to admit it, but the change didn't phase me. I was a born-in Witness at the ripe old age of 20 when it happened.

The Bible - God's Word or Man's?
That is the title of one of the Watchtower's seemingly endless list of books that was pushed out for
saleplacement in the Jehovah's Witness' ministry. The title does ask a great question. Is this book we call "The Bible" the word of God, Holy Spirit inspired scripture, or just the musings and opinions of humans? Those who would deny that the Bible is divine in origin usually point to failed prophecy, events that do not mesh with historic evidence, scientific evidence, or even plagiarism from other religions. This is all fine and dandy, but how about an actual confession from a professed writer of several Bible books?
1 Corinthians 7:25-40 NWT
25 Now concerning virgins, I have no command from the Lord, but I give my opinion as one who had mercy shown him by the Lord to be faithful. 26 Therefore, I think that it is best for a man to continue as he is in view of the present difficulty. 27 Are you bound to a wife? Stop seeking a release. Are you freed from a wife? Stop seeking a wife. 28 But even if you did marry, you would commit no sin. And if a virgin married, such a person would commit no sin. However, those who do will have tribulation in their flesh. But I am trying to spare you.
29 Moreover, this I say, brothers, the time left is reduced. From now on, let those who have wives be as though they had none, 30 and those who weep as those who do not weep, and those who rejoice as those who do not rejoice, and those who buy as those who do not possess, 31 and those making use of the world as those not using it to the full; for the scene of this world is changing. 32 Indeed, I want you to be free from anxiety. The unmarried man is anxious for the things of the Lord, how he may gain the Lord’s approval. 33 But the married man is anxious for the things of the world, how he may gain the approval of his wife, 34 and he is divided. Further, the unmarried woman, as well as the virgin, is anxious for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in her body and in her spirit. However, the married woman is anxious for the things of the world, how she may gain the approval of her husband. 35 But I am saying this for your personal advantage, not to restrict you, but to move you to what is appropriate and to constant devotion to the Lord without distraction.
36 But if anyone thinks he is behaving improperly by remaining unmarried, and if he is past the bloom of youth, then this is what should take place: Let him do what he wants; he does not sin. Let them marry. 37 But if anyone stands settled in his heart and has no necessity, but has authority over his own will and has made the decision in his own heart to remain unmarried, he will do well. 38 So also, whoever marries does well, but whoever does not marry will do better.
39 A wife is bound as long as her husband is alive. But if her husband should fall asleep in death, she is free to be married to whomever she wants, only in the Lord. 40 But in my opinion, she is happier if she remains as she is; and I certainly think I also have God’s spirit. The Apostle Paul writes "I give my opinion...I think...this I say...in my opinion."
What other ideas did Paul write and teach that were just his opinion, his thought, his sayings?
