Jehovah’s Witnesses—the Most Boring People On Earth!

when i see watchtower videos or interviews i can’t help but notice how bland and boring jws really are!

they are so vanilla.

no excitement, just robotic conversation.. what the hell happened to these people?

Honestly, it has to be extremely boring to be a Witness.

I tend to agree. Especially so if Witnesses are actually living according to all the tenets of the Watchtower, which most don't. Most Witnesses secretly do things that are frowned on, but aren't necessarily disfellowshipping offenses (i.e. tv and movies with violence and other frowned upon content).

Here is what gets me - Do Witnesses not realize that life in the Watchtower's Paradise will be worse than life now?

Watching inappropriate tv/movies or going to websites with unchristian content? No problem! They will no longer exist.
Watching violent and competitive professional sports? No problem! They will no longer exist.
Secretly wearing tight pants? No problem they will no longer be made.
Listening to inappropriate music? No problem. Recorded music is history!
No electricity. No running water. No sewage treatment.

Just a wonderful life of hard labor, petting panda bears, and a steady diet of raw fruits and vegetables...for eternity!

If you are suffering from anxiety in life over a lack of sense pleasure, boy, just wait until the New System!

As a wise man once said - If you cannot find happiness now, heaven won't help. You'll just suffer for eternity in heaven.

Theological speaking from a Christian perspective if a person admits to their transgression (sin) and asks to be forgiven by his associated Christian brothers he should not be shunned.

Exactly! If a person repents and stops committing the sin that is the end of it. There is no reputation to be upheld.

Over 20 years ago a friend of mine did something rather crazy; he committed a major crime. This incident was actually covered by the local tv news and newspaper. As a result he was disfellowshipped on the spot. 3 elders from his congregation met, without him (he was sitting in the county jail), and decided to DF him. Their reason - to prevent bringing reproach on Jehovah's name.

Now then, speak to any JW or any Christian or even practicing Jew and ask them "What is the first thing you think of when thinking of David from the Old Testament?" No doubt the first thing they will bring up is how much faith he had when facing the giant Goliath in battle or the self control and devotion he showed when he didn't slay King Saul when he had the chance.

What they probably won't say it "Oh, King David? He is that scum that used his position to coerce another man's wife to sleep with him. Then, when she ended up pregnant, he called her husband back from a battle the nation was fighting so the husband could sleep with his wife to deceive people into thinking the child was his. Then David sent the man back to battle with orders that assured his death to cover up the whole thing."

The end result - David got to remain King, but wasn't allowed to build Jehovah's temple. Then, David was immortalized in the Bible and his family line brought forth the Messiah, Jesus.

The fact of the matter is this - nothing any person can do can bring reproach on a god. So, what is actually happening here is this - Witnesses are being punished through shunning because they did something that might bring reproach on the ORGANIZATION. Even this is non-sensical because the organization never takes responsibility for its own faults. In word the organization says it is imperfect, it practice it holds itself out to be infallible.

i am an ex mormon who got a little bit obsessed with cults and how they work, after leaving the church.. recently i have been very interested in learning about the structure of jw because i find it very similar in some ways to how the mormon church is organized, except with different names for everything.. i have some questions:.

does the love bomb stop the moment you get baptized?

Is your average JW also a double standard type of person? I mean: Do they actually follow what they preach? Do they really believe in their hearts what they teach and learn?

I forgot to answer this question. It is a good one.

I think this is the hallmark of all Christian sects. You are hard pressed to find any Jehovah's Witness, including the 8 members of the Governing Body, who practice everything they preach. Most Witnesses regularly practiced something that goes against the religion's doctrine. This is done even in groups with a wink and a nod.

i keep hearing that the watchtower org is going to be around forever because of the many other religions that have been around a long time.

but i disagree because the wt is not like other religious cults.. the watchtower's breath of life is dependent on the last days that started in 1914. .

you can’t change 1914 without a death blow to the entire organization.. the watchtower's 2nd reason for staying alive, is it's continual urging that the life saving preaching work of warning people is the most important work ever.. but- it's very obvious to many, even the old ones that instead of speeding up the work------the work is slowing down to a drip.. comment by former believer; .

The celestial chariot is moving the goal posts again....errr, I mean is on the move again!

Jehovah is certainly speeding up the preaching work as the end draws near. So, the foot is on the gas pedal, but the car's gear is in reverse. They are actually going to reprint old issues? Isn't that "old light"?

There was a time about 30 to 40 years ago where an entire congregation would be encouraged to love bomb a newly interested person. My father forced me to do so while I was growing up. This often made me feel uncomfortable. Things did change. It did get to the point that the love bombing circle shrank just to the person who was studying with the newly interest person.

You are also correct - once that new person is baptized they often soon found themselves alone. They might be able to engage in conversation before or after the weekly meetings at the Kingdom Hall. They invites to people's homes or other social events would soon disappear after baptism.

I do recall many new converts disappearing within a year of baptism. What do you expect when they are told to cut all ties with non-Witnesses and then they are starved for social interaction after baptism?

What aspects do you view most favorably about the WT and/or its religion?

even if you disapprove of much about the wt and/or its religion, what aspects do you view most favorably about the wt and/or its religion?

for me one of the things i view most favorably about the wt and its religion is its extremely strong insistence that jws never intentionally kill another human being.

i especially appreciate that regarding those who have been born, but i think some abortions of human embryos might be justifiable.

I suspected that Romans 13:4 (and the rest of the first part of chapter 13) was spurious (or I at least wondered if it was and I hoped it was).

That is refreshing DisillusionedJW. There are three criteria that be apart of any philosophy/belief system/religion -

Faith
Doubt
Determination

First, we must have faith. This is not a clinging to belief and ignoring contrary ideas or facts. Rather it is accepting truth as we experience it. We first must accept something to be truth.

Second, we must doubt what we accept as truth. This is not skepticism. Rather, it is the refusal to accept something without evidence.

Third, we must be determined to seek evidence about what we have faith in.

I have a lot of doubt in the writings of Paul. Honestly, I doubt he was ever sent by Jesus. I think Paul was that type of person that is easy to believe based on how he presents himself.

i saw the rise of skywalker (2019) a few weeks ago.. and it is totally crazy, lol, it has everything but the kitchen sink.. i can somewhat feel for writer/director jj abrams because rian johnson went f**k up in the previous film.. e.g.

in the force awakens (2015), abrams introduced snoke, but then in the last jedi (2017) johnson killed him off, the same thing happened to luke.. but that doesn't really hide hollywood hack abrams from criticism of this movie.

bringing back emperor palpatine - i mean, really?.

People forget to give credit where credit is due for the original Star Wars (now Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope) film. Science Fiction author Alan Dean Foster was brought in to develop the final script. The script treatments up to the point were not as good (though I did like the original one that mirrored Akira Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress).

20th Century Fox had more control back then because they held the purse strings.

The Abrams trilogy lacked story. It was like one of those weird film deals where they have to make a movie or lose the right to the property. Much like all the Fantastic Four films to date.

The whole trilogy is a train wreck. As if millions of childhoods cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.

The return of Palpatine was used in popular comic book miniseries entitled Star Wars: Dark Empire, which I thought was pretty good. It was definitely better than the Abrams Star Wars movies.
