If I dropped my child over a border fence into Mexico I would be arrested. I would be charged with Child Endangerment. I would go to prison and lose custody of my children.

False memorial partakers deserve to die???
by Jofi_Wofo inevery memorial, much emphasis is placed on making sure that only the (self-proclaimed) anointed partake in the emblems.
this year, however, the speaker at my wife's congregation presented it as an even more serious matter.
he likened it to individuals in ancient israel who sought position of the priesthood despite never been appointed by jehovah.

Janitors and window washers who have the unique skill of determining if a person has been annointed by God to be a king-priest.
I think what burns people up inside like that is that as long as there is still 1 annointed on earth Armageddon won't come. So, if no one partakes they will feel like it really is the end. I am surprised the 8 Popes of New York don't just hold a Memorial for themselves and tell the rest of the organization that there is no need to have one anywhere else because they are it.

The actual statement from the Watchtower goes like this -
Will we be able to go doo-to-door with out the use of a mask in the next few month? Probably. Will we? Probably not
Then the news reporter says that statement is probably due to the fact that the Witnesses claim they have had more success in reaching people through their mail, telephone, and online campaign.
I am really on the fence on this one. It could go either way. Participation in the door-to-door ministry was the cornerstone of the religion when I was in.
On the other hand, I would have never thought the day would come where there would be no meetings, field service, or Memorial in person for over a year. 2 consecutive virtual Memorials! That is something I would never have seen coming.

Being raised as a Witness going back to the 1970s and leaving around 2010 I was taught that Pastor Russell was the originator. I believe in recent years the Watchtower publishes that Rutherford started the religion. I have recently accepted the latter as being the origin.
That is what is interesting - the Watchtower is plainly stating that from the death of the original apostles in the late first century to 1931 A.D., approximately 1800 years, there was no true religion. Further, true and acceptable religion has only been back in action for 90 years.

There's a new book coming out in April entitled "The Scout Mindset" by Julia Galef. Galef studies human thinking. I believe one of the points she bring out in her research is that the human mind has evolved to believe things that are not true if they are beneficial to us.
What is the benefit of being a loyal Jehovah's Witness? You are supposed to be granted everlasting life in perfect health on a paradise earth.
Is there any evidence that supports such an outcome is possible? No.
Is it so appealing that a person will avoid the truth and deny evidence to maintain the fantasy? Yes!
The number one reason people fear dying is that the believe they have missed out on something and will die unfulfilled. This actually creates a neurosis. The way to battle this neurosis is figure what meaning and purpose our individual life has.
The best advice I would give to you and your children is to stop trying to convince your wife that Jehovah's Witnesses have it all wrong. She will only view this as an attack on her self and not on the religion. Instead, show her kindness, compassion, love, and respect no matter what.

Would the world be a better place without religion?
by pistolpete ini know what you’re gonna say---------everyone has a right to believe whatever they want.. but the question above is not about everyone’s right to believe whatever.. the question is very specific------will the world be a better place----without religion.
think for a while what the world would be like without any religion.. no conflicts between islam and christianity.. no conflicts between different sects of christianity.
(example; jehovah’s witnesses vs catholics).

The short answer to the question - No.
The questions presents a false dichotomy - "Religion" as it is or "Religion never existing."
Further, the argument against religion ever existing presents us with the scenario of Abrahamic religions (i.e. Judaism, Christianity, Islam) or no religion.
I agree, due to Abrahamic religion not evolving with human thinking, the world and the state of Abrahamic religion is in a horrible state. There are those who are trying to change that and there is evidence that in the not too distant future (maybe even in our lifetime) we may see that (see Ken Wilber's works on Integral Theory).
I agree that religion is not required to teach children morality. My own children were spared being raised as Jehovah's Witnesses. In spite of zero religious indoctrination or suggestion by my wife and I, our children have been drawn to spiritual practice (my youngest asked me to buy him the Tao Te Ching). I think the best purpose for a spiritual practice is to show gratitude for life and to help those who want to learn how to be happy.
Integral thinking can be seen practicing Jews, Christians, Muslims, and Hindus (I will throw Buddhists in there, too, but Buddhism really isn't a religion or at least isn't concerned with whether there is or is not a god or how we came into being). An example is a guy I stumbled across named Wescott Louden. Wescott was raised an evangelical Christian, became an atheist, then practiced Buddhism only to finally to convert to Catholicism. If you were to ask Wescott is Christianity and Jesus the only way to be saved and the only true religion he would answer "Saved from what?" and "No!"
Finally, the idea that have one life - we did not exist, we were born, we lived, we die and then cease to exist is an idea. An idea that some would call an illusion. As is our memory and illusion and our ego. Our true self lives in the eternal now and, as my buddy Wescott would say, Heaven - your standing on it.

Colorado Mass Shooting
by Simon interrible news out of colorado this morning of a mass shooting in a supermarket leaving 10 dead.. missing from the homepage of cnn is any description of the shooter.
that's because it's a muslim refugee from syria who was apparently anti-trump and not a "maga white guy" which would otherwise be included in every headline.. more kids in cages than ever before (but strangely, now no one in the media seems to care) and now this.. biden doesn't have the magic wand he promised after all, right?.

Breaking down a "Mass Shooting"
- A person goes to a public place and murders 4 or more people by using a firearm
- That firearm tends to be a box magazine fed rifle
- 24 Hour Cable News Media and Left leaning government with its ideological supporters blame the firearm and a lack of "common sense gun control laws"
- Right leaning news media, talk radio hosts, and government with its ideological supporters blame too many gun control laws and a lack of mental health services
- Nothing changes
- Repeat
Arguments for Assault Weapons ban
- Risk of future mass shootings too high
- No one needs an Assault Weapon
- Assault Weapons are military styled weapons intended for warfare
- You can hunt or participate in firearms sports with something other than an Assault Rifle
Arguments against Assault Weapons ban
- The U.S. Constitution provides a Bill of Rights and not a Bill of Needs
- U.S. Supreme Court case law does not allow for types of firearms to be prohibited
- Law abiding gun owners should not be disarmed because a few people use a particular type of firearm to commit crimes
- There is no such thing as an Assault Weapon
- The military uses 9mm pistols and 12 gauge shotguns as well as rifles making any firearm a military style firearm
The irony - a large number of Americans do not, nor would ever own any type of firearm. Yet, they have no problem deciding what all Americans need or do not need when it comes to firearm ownership. This is all stemmed from a fear of being murdered by someone with a firearm. So their solution is to consolidate all firearms with the State and give the State a monopoly on deadly force. If a gun owner refuses to surrender his weapon to the State, the State will send its agents with firearms to forcibly seized those weapons and possibly kill the owner by using a firearm if they refuse to surrender it.
Conversely, those who have no issue with firearms or using lawful deadly force would rather go grocery shopping with their AR-15 slung because at least they would have a fighting chance to stop a crazed gunman bent on carrying out the next mass shooting. More guns is the solution. An armed society is polite society.
This boils down to turning the United States of America into the former Soviet Union or turning the United States of America into the Wild West of the 19th century. The fact is that is a false dichotomy. Those are not are only two options. In addition, that does not mean a compromise is required to satisfy opposing views. There are solutions where all parties leave the negotiation table feeling satisfied.

The U.S. statistics on method or device used to commit Murder is interesting. A U.S. citizen is more likely to be Murdered by someone's fist, a hammer, or a knife than a rifle.

Trial studies with Dimethyltryptamine have similar outcomes as NDEs. The oxygen starved brain theory may be a factor, but it doesn't seem to hold water.
If there is life after death in some way I do NOT believe it would be supernatural! There would be a perfectly natural explanation that we can't figure out yet.
This is an example of having faith in science. A supernatural experience is shared. One does not want to accept the possibility of the supernatural being real. So the idea is created - "There must be a rational, natural, scientific explanation. We just don't have it yet." That idea is no different that someone saying, "The Bible's account of creation must be true. You just have to have faith."
As more research comes in on consciousness it tends to shed light on NDEs. I am starting to think that our brains are a receiver for consciousness like a TV is for television signals.
