Natural Selection in Religions

i recently developed an interest in examining the origins of religion.

so what i've gathered so far is this.

the human mind needs to create an explanation and meaning.

Victor: this is your young buddy from way back when. Haven't had a chance to find that picture I was telling you about yet. Thanks for being there a few months ago when I was new to TTATT, e-mailed you and reached out. It really did help. The therapy has worked wonders, allowed me to open up to my wife and accept the consequences, whatever they would be. It turned out for the best, fortunately. Tested the waters a little with Dad. He'll never let go of it, even if he does see some of the problems. Dismisses it as imperfection. I just wanna shake him and say, "DON'T YOU SEE YOU'RE BEING DUPED?" I just don't think he can face the fact that he's wasted so much time and energy on this BS religion.

Pretending Jesus existed and the Lord's Evening Meal is true... The Memorial is wrong...

jws celebrate jesus death according to 1 corinthains 11.. fine.

once a year since it's on the jewish passover... fail... since thats tonight not last night but..... lets overlook that... jws from new zeland to london observed the memorial on april 2 by western clock... of course all in the western hemisphere did this on april 3rd wheevr the sun went down.

thus a domino effect in the jw congregations took place starting at the date line going back to the same spot 24 hours later..... well this is pathetic in many ways... if the jws worshipped in spirt and truth according to john 4 (i'm an atheist ... i don't care) they would observe on jerusalem's time zone according to the gospels and 1 corinthians... but they dont....

On modern calendars they mark the Passover on the correct day. However, Jewish days are from sunset to sunset. So this year, the Passover started Friday evening and lasted all day Saturday until sunset. That's why the Passover is marked as Saturday (this year) because the majority of the hours occur on that day. It's confising, but just think of sunset as the equivalent of our midnight. So no matter how idiotic JWs are, so long as they observed the occasion this year after sunset on Friday, they observed it on the correct date.

No matter what the time zone, the date is the date.

Theres plenty of other bullsh!t teachings to criticize them on. Let's at least use one that has some legs to stand on other than the timing of the memorial.

the responses are so pathetic.

21 Years as an Elder, 5 as an MS, I will never be that guy again.

i was deleted as the cobe after i let my adult child move back home and he admitted that he fornicated under my roof while my wife and i where away on a rbc project.

of course the elder mode in me kicked him out of the house.. the elders moved quickly to remove me because i was too involved in "theocractic activities", i had neglected my adult son.. i accepted this primarily because i didn't want to serve with a boe that did not want me.

i was devastated however because it was the only life i knew.

James is now talking to a multitude of DFed JWS but he didn't have the balls to attend his own son's wedding ...

I am now talking to a multitude of DFed JWs, but I didn't have the balls previously to not shun my close friends that were disfellowshipped.

I deeply regret contributing to that abuse, however, I towed the line at the time because I thought it was right or that I would get busted and get in trouble.

There's nothing wrong with changing your viewpoint.

The Watchtower are Right About Blood...

... but, they fail to take note of one important detail.. i believe that if we are going to have any chance of reasoning with a jw about blood, this is the place we need to begin.. don't try to convince them that it was only a dietary law.

it wasn't, and they will never go along with it.. don't tell them that saving a life is more important than obeying a law, even a seemingly trivial one.

they take pride in obedience.

As a JW I would simply have replied that saving a sheep on the Sabbath was never against the Law. Jesus was showing that the Pharisees had gone beyond the Law. In the case of blood the law is very clear. There cannot be any compromise.

Ah! Now I see. To me, this principle Jesus introduced was enough to convince me differently about the Blood doctrine.

But I can definitely see a JW reacting the way you mentioned.

What is their usual reaction when Jesus said it was okay to break the law in a life or death situation. Breaking the Sabbath was a Capital offense, breaking the law on blood was a capital offense. Then read Matt 12:11. "Who will be the man among you that has one sheep and, if this falls into a pit on the sabbath, will not get hold of it and lift it out? All considered, of how much more worth is a man than a sheep!" Then say Jesus is your leader and you're taking your cues from him, not imperfect men.

Where and when did you ever hear or see a JWS DFed for attending another DFed JWS wedding ?
Particularly when they are family ?
Like their own son ???
..... and be honest !

I personally know of a couple that were publicly reproved for attending their DF'd daughter's wedding. The charge was "conduct unbecoming of a Christian."

However, I've never heard of anyone getting DF'd for this. But the fact that they can form a Judicial Committee for it to begin with means you could be DF for it.

How do you feel about religion as a whole?

it just seems to me religion in general primarily makes truly bad people worse, not genuinly good people better; and in many cases has even made good people do bad things in the name of their religion.

just curious, a personal poll if you will.

what are you guys' current views on religion as a whole?

Though I came to a different place in my beliefs than FayeDunaway did after exiting, FayeDunaway supported me with words of comfort in my time of emotional turmoil when letting go of the cult, and for that, I will be ever grateful and let him/her have their religion and never criticize him/her for it. (I'm assuming the proper pronoun is "her" but I hate to assume.)
