The Watchtower's Real Crisis
by JeffT inwhen discussing the watchtowers financial problems, i've generally been of the opinion that they probably are not in a real financial crisis.
i've come to believe that money may be something of an issue, but its wrapped up in a much larger problem.
this came to me this morning when reading about the annual meeting.. i think the society's leadership is just plain out of ideas.

NWT from Greek/Hebrew into other languages?
by Counter-Watchtower indoes jw org claim to have translated the nwt into other languages from greek/hebrew?
because if they did claim that they would have to have biblical scholars in biblical greek/hebrew from every language, that would be a ton of ppl!
and take a lot of time!.

I have heard from COs and other speakers that non-English translations are primarily translations from the English NWT into the third language (third being from GreekOrHebrew to English to the third language. I don't have first hand knowledge, but I believe this to be so based on the WT speakers' comments.

Just woke up turn TV on to hear yet another nut case with a gun.
by Still Totally ADD infirst they said 20 dead with 100 injured.
now i just heard 50 dead and 200 injured.
whatever it is it just another nut case who was able to get a high power gun to kill people.

Still no motives mentioned in the news. Truly makes no sense. I kind of expect alternate theories to start to be aired, accomplices, impersonaters, brainwashing, etc. whatever it is, it’s bizarre. I really feel for the victims and their families.

it turned out that in 1970 there was a lot of changes being made at bethel.
one of the major changes was that a bethelite didn’t have to go to kings county or the brooklyn heights congregations first before getting assigned out to a local kingdom hall in the new york city area.

I wonder if the fruit bill is because he took it from the commissary. If I remember correctly, the Bethelites have to pay for things from the commissary anyhow. It's not like the buffet food that they can get for free.
But still it takes a lot of nerve to invoice an out-going bethelite over such a trivial thing.
He has had some harsh treatment, and there's undoubtedly more to the story.

Chapter 31 New Boy 50 years a Watchtower slave
by new boy inchapter 31. murder suicide and death at the big house.
the people at bethel were killing us spiritually and sometimes they killed us physically too.. many of the old timers were in the infirmary laying there just waiting to die of natural causes.
some had served there for over fifty years.

I remember meeting Wilbur Ruth when I visited my brother there in the '70s. But I remember his name being pronounced more like Wilmer or Wilmur, rather than Wilbur. Can't say for sure, though.

Russell Family Tree

it's interesting that margaret went on to be a jw (i.e.
stayed with the watchtower organization), whereas mabel, his half-sister, went on to stay with the bible students.it would be very interesting to find the descendants of both margaret and mabel... wondering how many still are bible students / jw's.... .

I think Russell's success was his writing ability. Maybe he didn't have much of an education, but he could write and write clearly in a way that made sense to people. It was all BS, but it read well.
