It is amazing to me that with the internet and availability of information, fringe ideas still exist. But in a way it has enabled the oddball ideas and beliefs to thrive. The news reports about Dylan Roof and others like him suggest they are radicalized on the internet by selectively reading what they want. Apparently they read what they want and ignore the rest.

Have you ever known a holocaust denier? How did you feel about them?
by Esse quam videri ini sometimes did work for a lovely old couple who at times needed repairs done around their home.
my wife and myself spent time with them, having tea and crackers from time to time.
one day the husband and myself got into a conversation and he clearly showed himself to be a holocaust denier.

wallis budge's 19th century translation of the papyrus of ani from barnes and noble, so i'm sure everyone here can procure a copy or find it free online.

I've always heard of the book but never read it or looked at it. Keep it up and pass along any observations

Why isnt the overlapping generation( interpretation), consistently applied to these scriptures.?
by smiddy inwhy does the wt interpret matt.24:34 "truly i say to you this generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.
" as having overlapping generations ?
and not applying the same reasoning to any other scripture/s referring to a generation or this generation .?

"50 Years a Watchtower Slave" Chapter 3 Part B
by new boy inmy mother had a strange relationship with all the men in her life including me.
before 1961 she loved my father in some strange way.
she really thought her new religion would get my father back on the right path, back on the straight and narrow.

Learning from History
by no-zombie ini was reading the book 'five stages of collapse' by dmitry orlov, which discussed in part, people's attitudes toward the probability of societal collapse.
one group of people, those who dispassionately examine facts, like scientists, engineers and accountants ultimately become diametrically opposed to the group of people with vested emotional interests, like politicians, businessmen and economists.
and he made some interesting comments that parallel our situation when we consider how people are polarized over the future of the organization..

I have read Jared Diamond's book about the collapse of civilizations. He made a big case for the conservation and responsible husbanding of resources. I'm not sure how relevant it is to compare to the WT situation.
I think the WT is more headed on the trajectory of being a smaller religion with greatly reduced scope rather than disappearing entirely. Similar religions like the Mormons, SDA, and the Worldwide Church of God have gone through major changes and still survived, with varying success. The Worldwide Church of God nearly collapsed, but it is still around.

I didn't know that Camping used 'day for a year' and that type of calculation. Is he still alive?

JW Ideal candidates for Life Insurance?
by MNLifeAgent ini am not a jehovah's witness, although i do respect your religion entirely.
i am 27 years old, and live in minnesota.
i have an older cousin, who's mother (not with my uncle -separated when my cousin was a baby) had been a witness, grew up in your word, and about 12 years ago she fully converted.

I heard a JW once say he didn't need life insurance because he was going to live forever. I think he died a few years ago.

Have any ex-jws considered joining the Bible Students?
by Rainbow_Troll intheir fundamental beliefs are much like jehovah's witnesses sans the paranoia, authoritarianism, stifling rules, and end-times enthusiasm.
you don't even have to become a bible student to be saved, you could be an idol worshipping heathen and still get resurrected in the milenium.
if i still believed in the divine inspiration of the scriptures, i would be a bible student.

I used to have some of p s l Johnson's 'Epiphany Studies in the Scriptures' (LHMM). I found it bizarre. His use of types and anti types made Fred Franz look like a sissy.

At this assembly, attendance the first day was 58,000, the second was 70,000. From the photos it appears to be a soccer stadium, also has track and field, quite large.

I think it was an international assembly. The people I know that are there are residents of another African country and traveled to Nairobi just for the convention.
