Book Burning and other burning of materials done by JW. Any experiences Please post
by adjusted knowledge inas a very young child i have memories of several book burnings done by jw families.
it wasn't something arranged by the congregation, but elders did participate in it.
it was actually scary for me as a child of only about 8 years old.

Wing's statement
Well said! And what I am embarrassed to think back upon, is how I was raised and brought up to believe that this religion was so important,
Got that right!
Also, Was there anything in the Pew report this time about retention?

The Divine Name in the NT: Some Reflections
by Let go of fear ini've been fascinated with this topic for some time now, almost to the point of obsession.
after researching the issue for several years, i have come to a conclusion/theory that i would love to receive some feedback on.
this theory of mine is one that will be somewhat unsettling to both those who believe the divine name was used in the original nt scripts as well as those who believe it wasn't.

I haven't been able to get through all the previous posts, and I am not an expert, but everyone is entitled to an opinion, and here is mine.
The WT maintains that the divine name was pronounced in the first century and was pronounced by Jesus and apostles. They maintain that the practice of pronouncing 'kyrios' or a substitute word came in after the first century. To support this they point to existing early copies of the LXX which contain the tetragrammaton in Hebrew characters, embedded within the Greek text. To me this is actually evidence against their position, and indicates that the copyist thought the tetragrammaton so sacred that he had to reproduce it unchanged and untranslated. One of the early church authors, I forget which one, even commented on how some people reading the LXX would pronounce the word 'pipi' because the Hebrew tetragrammaton letters resemble the greek letters pi,iota, pi, iota. So I think the evidence does not support the WT view, but rather supports the prevailing belief that pronunciation of the divine name ceased much earlier, in the couple of centuries B.C.
So it follows that inserting the Name in the NT is presumptuous and simply wrong. It would be different if there were even one NT copy that had the Name, but there isn't (so far).

Question: Are single sisters allowed to be missionaries in other countries?
by Wild_Thing inas far as i remember, only married couples were allowed to be missionaries.
my jw sister recently told me that single sisters can be missionaries, too.
this sounds too progressive for jws, so i just want to verify it.

CAH closing down in upstate NY
by oppostate inyet another circuit assembly hall is going to be sold off!.
they've been reducing the amount of congregations assigned to meet there and using the times when it isn't in use to make repairs.
elders have now been informed that they are selling off the property and buildings and that circuits would be assigned to attend other sites, twice as far, three or four hours away, like montreal.

I was at a Baptist church for a funeral a while back and the pianist played a hymn that sounded virtually the same as Keep Your Eyes on the Prize. I think the tune was ripped off from Christendom. imagine that -

LATEST NEWS: CANDANCE CONTI VERIDICT READY - WT LOST!!!!!!!
by Viva la Vida ini'm not an expert but that is my understanding of this: .
opinion filed.. (signed published) the judgment against defendants on the negligence count is affirmed.
the judgment against watchtower on the cause of action for punitive damages is reversed with directions to enter judgment for watchtower on punitive damages.

Candace's original intent was to force the WT to be accountable, and to make the WT change their policy. In this respect, since the WT's negligence was affirmed, I would say that it is a win for Conti. The secondary issue of millions of damages (which Conti didn't ask for in the first place) the WT has apparently dodged the bullet. But the precedent is set and they can no longer say that they have never lost one of these cases.
Not a lawyer, just what I am getting from the wording in the OP.
