New anti-spam measures
by Simon inwe've been bombarded by spam a number of times in the last few weeks and last night was the worst yet.
i already built some tools to make removing it easier because i think the longer it stays up, the more it encourages it, but still it's annoying to see and interferes with the operation of the site.
fortunately, we were able to catch and remove it relatively quickly.. i've now implemented and deployed some additional protection measures which i hope will better detect and block it from appearing in the first place.

S.A.D. Observations from the assembly.
by Darkknight757 inso we had brother losch visiting our special assembly day which was weird in itself.
he's not a very good speaker and seemed like he was in dire need of a nap or something.. anyways just a few observations from the assembly program.
theme: imitate their faith.

Losch was the speaker at our circuit one time and said that we shouldn't send our children to kindergarten. It is required by law in this state, so more than a few of us were PO d -

I have a family member at a non-US bethel in an undeveloped country. He has occasional security duty, but they do not have weapons of course. The buildings have limited access, it would be most unwise not to have security at all times.

15 baptized out of 2500 attendance (0.6%) is actually higher than most we have heard about recently. It's been running about 0.4% to 0.5%. -

Fishing and JW's???
by lurkernomore inso i was just reading a thread and came across a completely new jw 'rule', that of not being allowed to go fishing!..
at least it's new to me as i always enjoyed fishing as did others in my old congregation.
anyone else heard of this or had this imposed on them in they're jw lives?.

Fishing and hunting is part of the culture around here (midWest US) and I've never heard it spoken against. I'm sure if someone went overboard with it that would be another matter. -

There has been a lot written about the 'Great Awakening' in US history as it is called. A revival of religiosity in the 1810-20 time period. I don't recall a discussion of the Iceland eruption event in this context. I doubt that many in the Americas were aware of it. -

Laugh-out-Loud BS from Insight Book
by berrygerry inhow would it be possible in 1,000 years to resurrect and educate the billions now in the grave?.
nevertheless, an illustration reveals what a simple, practical thing jehovah has in mind for mankind.
not to prophesy, but merely for the purpose of illustration, let us assume that those who compose the great crowd of righteous persons who come out of the great tribulation on this system of things alive (re 7:9, 14) number about 6,000,000 (about 1/1000 of earths present population).

You can't make sense out of nonsense. I wonder if the old AID book said the same thing. It probably did, and the Insight volume just copied it.
