I guess the silence suggests that most have moved on and the "memorial" is no longer holds any significance. That is a good thing. -

No prayer at public meetings?
by NikL ini was doing some research on another topic and i came across this from the march 1950 watchtower.... absence of prayer at public meetings!november 17, 1949dear brother:answering your query of the 9th instant regarding the absence of prayer in opening and closing our public meetings:it is certain that the public does not come to our public lectures in our kingdom hall or elsewhere to hear us pray, but do come to hear the advertised subject spoken upon by the speaker announced as competent to handle it.
our exemplar jesus held many public lectures, but there is no record that he opened or closed any of them with prayer.
there is no bible record that he opened up the sermon on the mount with prayer, or those open-air lectures after which he fed the multitude, first the 5,000 and then the 4,000. but there is a record that when he thus fed the multitudes he did offer prayer of thanksgiving to god before breaking the bread and fish and distributing the pieces to the hungry crowds.

I remember the change to have a prayer at the public talk. I forget when the change occurred. At the time, it was a significant event.

In years past the JWN board was hot with comments. This time, not a lot. Does this mean that the event is no longer significant?

To those taking a stand and not attending the Memorial tonight
by doubtfull1799 ini salute you.
many of you, like me, are probably under enormous emotional pressure, whether from a lingering false sense of guilt from your indoctrination, whether from "invitations," and assumptions that you'll naturally be coming, or whether from outright emotional blackmail, even begging and pleading.
i am thinking of you whoever you are, all of you, even though i don't know you in person.

I am not attending tonight. It has been over 10 years since I quit attending. But I don't consider my actions "taking a stand." I have simply moved on. I doubt any knows or cares that I am not attending.

Money and Happiness
by berrygerry inwt has made a number of references to this alleged quote by j. paul getty:.
“money doesn’t necessarily have any connection with happiness.
nothing in my wt life brought more stress and anxiety than not having enough money.. this quote makes far more sense:.

As my father used to say "what good is happiness, it can't buy money."

Would you give up one year at the end of your life if you could relive any one day in the past?
by Esse quam videri inlike the question asks: if you could relive any one day of your life, any age, any place and remember everything about it afterwards, would you be willing to live one year shorter at the end of your life?
one day for one year?.
i realize that someone well on in years would think twice about it, but, what about you younger ones?

If I was able to live this day over again, would I know what I know now? And if I was able to make a change, will it affect the trajectory of my life? If the answer to these questions is yes, the I agree to your proposition.
Where do I sign up?

I don't think I ever felt "love." They tolerated me but did not love me.
Which is just fine, I am not very loveable. On the flip side, I did not show a lot of love to my fellow r&f at the kingdom hall. I hope I was nice to everyone, but I never got the whole "love" thing.
