It is a DFing offense. They would get you on spiritism, however since it is not blatant and obvious then they would give you time to stop it or you would be DF.

"Every bethelite with a view of the NY harbor would actually have a 'party' on the 4th of July and New Years with alcohol and the works"
...been there, done that. Its quite fascinating actually, they even urged bethelites to stay home from the meeting one 4 of July due to parking and traffic... cant remember which one. Might have been in 1992 for the 500 yr anniversary of Columbus... anyway it was a meeting night for many and we all just hung out on the rooftops and drank rum and cokes to hide the "hard stuff" as opposed the approved wine.

Insider info given to me by a very loyal, long time brother
by seeitallclearlynow inas mentioned in the topic title, a very active, very positive, "faithful" brother talked to me out of the blue at work last week.
it was a highly unusual opportunity - i happened to be in a secluded area, captive to my task, and i saw him passing so said hello.. he's a wonderful person with a well-known, fantastic sense of humor, known all over the circuit and district.
former pioneer, elder, fill-in c.o.

In general I think it takes a certain type of man to be a PO. Usually ones that are more inclined towards power, prestige, etc. The system doesnt function properly because these men really believe as one post put it "that they are the face of the WTS". Like a jerk CEO of a company that no one else likes including the other managers (the rest of the elder body in this case).
The PO's that are not power hungry do not last in that position. The WTS is stuck because on the one hand they do have these hardcore PO's to keep their pharasaic rules in place but on the otherhand many of the other elders do not want to remain "under this oppresive yoke" forever and they may rebel against that PO or step aside eventually. Many citing "family responsibilities" as the reason... yeah whatever.
No matter what the Elders manual , the new Organized book, or WT articles say the PO, SEC., SO (service committee) are considered the "top" elders on the body thus starting the elder "pecking order". Its really quite pathetic if you ask me and I agree with HadEnuf, this environment produces jaded, bitter elders who care more about prestige than people.

Bethel: Pathway to Apostasy
by Black Man inat the 'big house' you go either one of two ways, company man or apostate.
i think for many that went, it demystified the whole organization and you saw firsthand that there wasn't holy spirit influencing anything - only the muses of sheltered, out-of-touch old men and political bureaucrats.
i work in the corporate world and i saw just as much if not more politics in bethel.

I think its really just a matter of the preception of things once you are there. Of course many factors contribute to this preception and its different from person to person.
I liked it at Bethel and left voluntarily even more brainwashed and spiritually "enlightened!" I was even totally oblivious to the generation change and defended it to some who had doubts. Finally the child molestation thing got me questioning things. Still completely disgusts me when I think about it!

Elders, has there been any "official" push to target and eliminate faders?
by AlmostAtheist inhey current and recently stepped-down elders,.
has there been any direction from the co/do/brooklyn areas to go after the people suspected of 'fading'?
it seems that we're seeing more and more folks getting elder's visits scheduled, like an explosion recently.

No official directive from the top. Its just typical "Post-Memorial CYA" time for the elders.
Question: Since many of you have discovered the truth about the WT do you really think that some of elders cared at all? It seems that many of you still harp on the lack of visits, non caring of the elders, etc. Now that you know there is no holy spirit directing them isnt it obvious why they behaved that way? Not defending them but just asking why the expectations for "loving visits" from them is still there with some of you.

What's The Main Concern For A Jehovah's Witness?.. How About A Christian's?
by minimus injws clearly don't seem to be like other "christian" religions when it comes to their mission.
a jw's mission is simply to preach.
taking care of the ill, doing errands for the elderly, visiting other members----these are not priorities to a witness.

Minimus what you said is so true. I have heard some elders say that if someone is depressed, just focus on the spirituality and the rest will fall into place. In my head I was thinking when he said it that this person has some real life issues and probably needs professional help since she has been like this for years.
Also right after the Asian earthquakes and Tsunami's this past January did we ever hear of the WTS sending down aid or brothers flying over to help in the rebuilding? If there was any relief effort from the society it was either very minimal or well hidden because all I heard was that the Branch here called some CO or DO down there to get a count of how many brothers were missing. You know what I think? Its because Indonesia is predominantly a muslim country and there are VERY few JW's there so the WTS didnt really need to be involved much. Not very christlike as you said.

KM - Local Needs
by TheListener ini thought it would be interesting for those of us who still attend the meetings to let everyone know what our local needs part was/will be this week.
(the km allots 15 minutes to local needs at this weeks service meeting).
ours will be on meeting attendance.

"Local Needs" are supposed to be discussed at each Elders Quarterly meeting. At that time, needs are brought up and topics are discussed then assignments on who to give the talks are made. At least in therory that is how it should work.
In most congregations the PO chooses his favorite pet peeve usually attendance or the ever popular, and also nauseating "Do more in the ministry". He then selects one of his buddies to give the part or he does it himself, all without consulting other elders. So much for a body with each "member" serving a purpose huh.

I agree that it could be a number of factors, some even justified such as immorality, over drinking, etc.
This is the likely culprit though:
It could mean that he is not being a "team player."
You have to tow the company line so to speak and if you dont then they find a way to get rid of you. Bottom line is that I think someone influential didnt like him. The chicken elders that went along with it are probably the ones that asked him to pray that night to ease their own guilt not to help him. Its all a sham!
