Nice to hear from you, Joelbear. Great advice from one who knows. Congratulations to you and Mitch!!
I think Joel said it best. Lots here for you to think about.
is there anything worse than this?
sometimes it is ok, other times it sucks.

It takes time to let it go................for some a long time
When we first faded away in '97, I tried to keep one foot in, still read my Bible and went to Bible discussion groups with other ex JW's, but it was not satisfying at all. I liked the camaraderie, but it was like going to meetings, and I hated that part. The longer I was out of the organization, the more I realized the JW's have nothing.............absolutely NOTHING.
You will know that too one day. Be easy on yourself and give yourself more time. It might be good to read some books that could help. Steve Hassan's books on Cult Mind Control were very helpful to me. We all were victims of that mind control...........they are good at controlling.
My husband was a very prominent elder and I was a regular pioneer, so we were INVOLVED. All of our children were JW's.............but not for long. It wasn't easy to walk away, but you have to be true to who you are. That's what we did, because we knew it wasn't the truth. (somehow we have avoided being disfellowshipped)
You are gay, so you left, and I know it wasn't easy for you to leave, but be kind to yourself. You did the right thing. They will never accept you. It's sad but so true.
i was visiting some friends today and what struck me was complete lack of imaginations kids have today.
they get easily bored.
unless there is internet, video games or tv around they dont know how to entertain themselves.
Our kids are grown and only the youngest had a video game system.................couldn't afford it until after he came along. They were active kids and always outside doing something. We had a "no TV" rule for daytime. They could watch one show a night, after dinner until weekends.
Our grandchildren's parents have pretty strict rules about video games and TV and computer time. They can only use them on weekends. Weekdays are for homework and outside activities. If there is time on weekends, they are free to use the screens.
I did buy a video system last year for them to have when everyone is here...........or just one or two. I babysit a lot and they were begging. I guess times are just different than when we were kids and when we raised ours. Our grandkids (nine altogether) range in age from 2 to 22 and are all growing up beautifully, into kind, responsible adults. I am not worrying about the issue of screens and entertainment too much.
By the way, all but the 2 and 3 year old are avid readers.
when i was growing up as a born in jw, i remember the fear that dfing stirred up within me.
as a kid, seeing a df'd person was quite a scary thing.
thinking back about how it was growing up, it occurred to me that at the time, i never realized that a person had to be baptized in order to be df'd.
My father was disfellowshipped in 1955, not long after the practice was started. It didn't really affect me, because he was Dad and I was a child.
At the same meeting where they announced Dad, a young, single sister was also df'd, and later was obviously pregnant. Bad timing for Dad..............no connection. She got involved with her boss. But there sure was a lot of talk about that.
Dad was df'd for being sued by a disgruntled patient, and it made the news. Brought "reproach on Jehovah's name". Rubbish!
when you were a jw......did you really & truly believe all your non-jw relatives, friends & acquaintances were evil and under satan's influence.....as you were taught by the wts?
did you buy that ridicules teaching....or did you deep down realize it was bunk?.
lavendar.
One of the pioneers made a WT study comment one time, that impacted me. She said that all the non JW's are potential JW's, and we should treat them as such.
Wise gal.

spockster and his wife live on Maui. I will email their email for you.
a witness just informed me about a couple that we know who had their assembly recently, and it was announced at the private elder's meeting that there will be a special meeting with all the elders in the us in patterson.
it was mentioned that we are now living "in the end of end of times" and that the un is talking about prohibiting religions.
has anyone heard of this??
They've been saying that since I was 4 years old..................and I am now 62.
can anyone quote me any literarature on lying being alright , does it not matter about lying to worldlys as they are considered evil anyway .
when i used to study i remember hearing many times "i cannot tell a lie ,i am a jehovahs witness "( this was usually said by people who everyone knew told lies ) when i hear jw talk now about how marvelous they are it makes me want to vomit .
Yes, I think it's in the Aid book, under honesty, or something other than lies. I remember looking for it about 25 years ago, while still a dub, and not being able to find it very easily.
It defines a lie as "an untruth told to someone who has the right to the information".
when i was almost seven, we moved from the gulf coast town of mobile, alabama to morgan city, louisiana.
on brashear avenue, which was also highway 90, the gulf coast hwy, going towards the now old atchafalaya bridge, there was a shrimp boat in the middle of the road called the spirit of morgan city.
at christmas time they decorated it with a santa on the front and his reindeer out front, as if it were santa's mode of transportation through cajun country, rather than his regular sleigh.

This is probably the most famous Seattle landmark (Space Needle), but it's only been there since 1962. Another familiar landmark is Mt. Rainier. We see it on clear days looming over the city. You can't see it in the first photo, because of the clouds, but it's there.
