For mother's out there...cleaning a son's bedroom!
by restrangled inmy son is twenty years old, a good kid, is doing great in college so i usually keep the door closed to his bedroom so i don't have to look.
today he took out a huge batch of laundry for me to do and the odor from that bedroom had me reeling.. here is my humorous but deadly serious post on the matter:!!!!!.
after vacuuming, enough dust to fill the entire dust bin in the vacuum.. enough change on the floor to keep him in fast food for a week.....(don't ask me for money).

We raised 3 sons and a daughter. The two oldest boys were unbelivable slobs. Nothing I did could make them become neat or keep a room tidy, let alone clean. They are 44 and 41 now and still slobs. One more than the other. They just don't seem to see clutter.
The youngest boy and our daughter were neat freaks and pretty much still are.
I think they are born that way and we have to learn to live with it.

What was your earliest memory of being a witness?
by mtsgrad inwas your memory good, bad or ugly?

Mulan
do you remember a demonstration at one of the conventions on how to train little kids to sit still for two hours? The mom started by making them sit still for a few minutes every day, and she gradually added minutes until, at home, they could sit still for two hours.
My husband had that demonstration and talk at one of the district conventions forever ago. He used one of the sisters in our cong. that had four kids, including twins, and added one of our sons.
My parents let me sleep at the KH and I was never spanked for anything. I was very shy and probably would have cried if I did anything wrong. I tried hard to be good. Mom said "children should be in bed at that hour, so let them sleep".

I was 4 years old, and the KH was a converted church building. There was a long stairway to the door, and I remember it being very high and lots of steps. It wasn't, but that was my memory.
One of the teenagers in the congregation was the most handsome "man" I had ever seen. I fell instantly in love, at 4. He passed away a couple of years ago, Alzheimer's. He had grown up real fine, married a great gal, they went to Gilead, then Korea, came back pregnant, had two sons, and their eldest went to Gilead and is now a CO in South America somewhere.
Those are my first memories.

This one says it's like Lonestar's recipe:
2 cloves garlic - minced
2 Tbls. minced onion
1/4 cup real butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups heavy cream
1/4 cup chicken broth
2/3 cup fresh-grated Pecorino Romano cheese
2 tsp. fresh-squeezed lemon juice
1/2 tsp. hot sauce
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 cup sour cream
(2) 10 oz. boxes frozen chopped spinach - thawed, squeezed dry through a fine sieve
12 oz. jar artichoke hearts - drained, coarsely chopped
1/2 cup shredded white cheddar cheese-In a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat, sauté garlic and onion in butter until golden, about 3 - 5 minutes.
-Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
-Slowly whisk in cream and broth and continue cooking until boiling.
-Once boiling, stir in Romano, lemon juice, hot sauce, and salt; stir until cheese has melted; remove from heat and allow to cool for 5 minutes.
-Stir sour cream into pan, then fold in dry spinach and artichoke hearts.
-Fold the mixture into a microwave-safe serving dish, or into several serving-size dishes.
-Sprinkle cheddar evenly over top(s).
-At this point, the dip can be refrigerated until ready to serve, if desired.
-Microwave dip on 50% power just until cheese has melted.Notes: Serve with tortilla chips for dipping and sour cream and salsa.

Here's one from The Food Network. I think I would use canned artichokes, but the frozen ones might be good. Just never seen them.

Someone delete this post with music. Danny has no consideration for others on this board.
I deleted it because I can't stand Prince's music, and I dislike music on websites. What if I had a young child asleep, or reading online during the night? Too loud and it seemed like a good idea.

Former or Current Elders, MS, Pioneers.......Did you enjoy these positions?
by R.F. indid you ever enjoy serving in this way or did you view it more as, "it's the thing that's encouraged, so that's what i'll do"?.
im currently a ms and pioneer(will shed this one immediately) and before i ever were appointed these, i always wanted to.
i thought it was a pretty cool thing for someone my age to be instructing the congo, and to have so many look up to you.

I was a pioneer and enjoyed the "glory", and the perks. It was the going door to door that killed me. What a waste of time.
I had lots of Bible studies, and I enjoyed those. They saved my sanity until I finally couldn't take it anymore.
4 years later, we were gone.

Disgusting comment re: education from Tacoma 2007 District Convention
by Justitia Themis inthis is from saturday afternoon program.
the speaker first starts with what he called the "alphabet soup" of degrees....a.a., b.a., m.a., ph.d., etc.
; he said they were nothing more than "sheepskins on the wall.

My mother is currently listening to recordings of the convention in Tacoma, provided by someone in her congregation. I told her about this talk today, and she "tsk tsk" it. She said this "I don't recall anything at all in the Bible that would be against educating yourself".
I agreed and said "but religions can control it. I guess they want everyone to be a janitor". She nodded her head and said "thankfully, we still have free will".
She has always been pretty much in favor of higher education, and at 94 isn't about to change her mind.

I think it was Michener's The Source that has an interesting take on Biblical times, and kind of gave me quite a different, non-WTS-drama view of what those times were more realistically like.
The movie Hawaii, based on Michener's novel, had its opening New England-based scenes filmed in Walpole, NH, which is the next village over from where I live. Michener visited during the filming.I read quite a bit of The Source about 30 years ago, when I would never have entertained ideas the JW's weren't the truth. I finally had to take it back to the library, as I had renewed it more than they would let me, to check it out again. I think we finally bought one and Dave read it, and loved it.
The move Hawaii, was a good movie, but pretty different from the book. Entertaining though.
