Lets say something positive about Islam!

i'ii start off.

i have traveled widely in asia and have visited iran on business.

i have always found the average muslim to be extremely hospitable and generous.

I have, as well...............traveled in Asia, that is. I've been to Malaysia twice and I agree. The Muslims I know are very nice people, with close, loving families (some of the men have more than one wife, but it is okay with the wives).

There are many Muslims in our community and I speak to them whenever I have the opportunity. Some work in the bank, but I see many at the grocery store and at Costco. They are so nice and the children are adorable.

When I was pioneering, I called on a woman from Turkey, who had moved here so her husband could work in a local hospital. He was a doctor. She was lovely, but I brought a man with me once, and she wouldn't even look at him and asked me not to do that again.

How long did your exit process take?

for those who daed or dfed, how long did your exit take and why?.

i'm trying to figure out how long it'll take me to get out.. thanks.

we faded over about 2 1/2 years. So far not disfellowshipped or da'd. Almost 10 years since we set foot in a KH.

My husband was a very prominent elder, but starting traveling to Japan for work and then started his own business. I was seldom at meetings so they believed him when he said he needed to give attention to his "spiritually ailing wife" and also the business. So he resigned with no red flags. After that it was pretty easy to just fade out. We still went to book study almost every week, because it was at our closest friend's home and they were sympathetic and not inclined to rat us out. The KH became a seldom attend situation.

Excellent.

I had an RV with a young minister when I was pioneering. He was really sharp and had lots of WT information. He asked me for copies of magazines "for research" and gave me a list, with the pages and paragraphs he was interested in. I looked them up and was shocked by all the changes over the years and the reasoning behind the changes. And I had been a JW for almost my entire life, from the age of 4 in 1950. So I should have known this stuff.

He also had gone to a library and looked up the actual books referenced in the Trinity brochure and told me what the books really said, and how the WTS took bits and parts of sentences to make their point. I took that to an elder, who unbeknownst to me, was on his way out. He told me to write a letter to the headquarters and he would sign on it for me. I was not comfortable doing that.

All that helped to prepare me for what would come in 3-4 years, when my husband and the above mentioned elder, both showed me why JW's could not be a true religion.

I think you planted tons of seed today!! Good job.

My Trip to the Dentist's Torture Chamber

well, i won't go into all the gory details, suffice to say it was absolute .

fricking torture for four hours.

They should be able to do something about the sound of the drill. Isn't it possible to make one that is silent?
Headphones and nitrous oxide.

I get sick from nitrous, very nauseated, and I'm overly sensitive to novacaine, so they have to use carbocaine on me. It takes longer to kick in and doesn't last as long. It's a bad situation for me. Novacaine reacts on me exactly like it does for MsMcDucket. The first time that happened, they marked it on my chart and don't give it to me anymore. The shaking made it hard for them to do the work.

MsMcDucket.. the reason novacaine makes you feel like your having a panic attack is that it's full of adrenalin. Or so I was told by my dentist. I was shaking from head to toe, shaking so hard I could hardly stay in the chair. I told the Doc that I didn't understand 'cause while I wasn't unafraid I wasn't terrified, either. He said some people react that way to novacaine. The next time I went in they couldn't get my tooth numb and gave me three shots.. it was rediculous! My feet were bouncing all over the foot rest and my teeth were chattering.. they couldn't get going again til the effect wore off some!

They always give me a prescription for Valium for an appointment, just to keep me in the chair.

Dogs. Huge, angry dogs.

Me too, even when I had one of my young children with me, the householder would call a dog on me and order me off the property, with the dog or dogs barking angrily and not letting me off a porch. Very scary.

I hate going to the dentist more than anything I can think of. I put it off until I absolutely HAVE to go. They laugh at me, because I'm a 61 year old woman who is the worst baby they've ever seen. I feel things no one else should feel, and they do believe me though. It's just the worst experience ever.

LAME (or funny) JW "Get together" stories, please...

ok,i've been sick for 2 days (sore throat, feeling run-down) so i could use some good laughs.

something just made me think of how absurdly lame jw "get-togethers" always were.

there were several that we went to (when we were still being love-bombed as newbies) where we ate dinner, then played bible pictionary.

We used to do Bible charades. We really had fun doing it, and all the kids loved it.

My 43 year old son was telling me about two weeks ago, that those evenings with our JW friends, in his childhood, are some of his best memories of his young life. Those evenings always included dinner, usually the WT study for an hour preparing for Sunday, really good food, dessert, and kids were included. I can't remember us drinking much. No one could afford anything other than cheap wine, about one glass per adult as I recall.

At one wedding shower the hostess asked my daughter and myself to do the games. We made up and wrote a Marriage Trivia game, using the Insight Books. Multiple choice questions. That was great. It was amazing how little they knew and how easy it was to trick them into the wrong answer.
One question I remember was: When a young woman was married she wore what?
A: A clean white robe
B: something suitable from the clothing she already had
C: a new, very expensive, elaborate gown, possibly more than the family could afford to spend.

Almost everyone said "A" or "B". The answer was "C".

How old did you expect to be when the New System would come?

i became a jw at age 28 and no way did i expect to ever get older than 40 years old in this system.. maybe at the extreme, i could have imagined being 45 years old, not more..

30..............before the 1975 expectations, I never expected any of my children to go to school, in this system. Now, all but 2 of my 9 grandchildren are in school, 1 granddaughter is in college. 2 are infants.

And...............I am 61! Boy, was I fooled!
