I really do love that film. Especially how the late Jason Robards's grandpa character gets a second chance with his grandson, Cool.

parenthood the movie
by man in black inlast night i was watching this movie and during the last scene it hit me how much the jw thought process hinders honest emotion with family members.. yes,,,, i know that there are hundreds of reasons as to why families do not get along / together, but being a witness for several decades showed me how much this religion makes an effort to "throw a wrench in the works" of family relationships.. there is no sound in this link, but just watching the interactions between everyone says volumes, imagine how different it would be if someone was "bad association or df'ed .

Why the fetish with NICOTINE???
by sinis ini have smoked, i quit, but now enjoy alternatives such as e-cigs, snus, and even the gum.
i find that nicotine has a nice mental enhancement, has several medical benefits and actually may help individuals to relax and focus.
now the question is this, why does the wts have such a fetish with nicotine?

IMO I think it has a lot to do with money. What the average smoker spends a week on cartons of cigarettes (and other banned items, e.g. lotto tickets) is a similar figure to a weekly donation into the KH contribution box. By controlling this aspect of the R&F's lifestyle, the WTBT$ ensures a small disposable income compared with that of your typical non-JW smoking window cleaner/caretaker/carpenter etc.
In my old congo the elders would deliver service meeting talks actively trying to discourage us from buying non-essentials such as a daily newspapers to ensure we'd make regular contributions!

Do You Want to be Valid?
by AllTimeJeff ini know how you feel...... you come to this forum for reasons of your own.
we all have as our default settings in our head that everyone else should think and see as we do.. sadly, or happily, the more you expose yourself to others, the more you experience the delicious irony that no one is the same, that god is so different to billions, or non existent to millions...... what we want though when we come here as former jw's isn't agreement, it's validation.. not that everyone else is wrong, but rather, just so that we matter.
that our life wasn't in vain.

Very well said!

I find it sad that not enough people can be respectful of others beliefs without trying to push their own onto others.

Things are heating up again!
by TimothyT inthis evening my dad came into my room and told me that this week he is going to disassociate himself.
he is totaly fed up with the organisation.. recently a brother in our hall snitched on my brother and i for supposed wrongdoings (myself for being gay), and the elders have been badgering our family for a few weeks now.
we are all tired of it.

Give your Dad a pat on the back. That's so great that you have his full support and he can see just how ridiculous the bOrg is to try and control people's lives.
