  hot topic on topix seems to be candace conti settlement.

  but it's all quiet here.

  are you guys aware that your hero, who was not in it for the money but to change policies, settled without changing anything?

  Nitty-Gritty: @ DarioKehl She exposed nothing that hasn't already been known. I.e that there are child molesters in every strata of society. Your neighbour could be one.

  But Watchtower claims to be different from "every strata of society." Remember, JWs are "no part of the world," and there is supposed to be a "spiritual paradise" in the organization, a place of "special protection and safety" from the evils of this world, according to Watchtower.

  These child molestation cases are proving that sexual molest of children, which exist in society in general, also exist among Jehovah's Witnesses. This shows that Watchtower is no better than the world it condemns. The more this is known publicly the more Watchtower will suffer as an organization.

  The settlement was more to protect Watchtower's interests than Conti's.

  The question is, Why would Watchtower agree to settle? It goes against everything they are supposed to stand for. If they thought Candace was going to lose everything they would still be in this.

  Maybe Watchtower settled because they knew they would not win in appeal, and the cost of more public exposure and bad reputation was more than the organization wanted to deal with.

  WT policy was not changed.

  How do we know this? Do you have access to the terms of the agreement? As has been mentioned, we will have to see what changes lie ahead in organizational policy, letters to the BOE, etc. It's way to early to know what changes there may be.

  Looks like she is done with it.

  Actually, it looks like Watchtower is done with it. Watchtower has said there is no unfavorable court ruling they wouldn't appeal. Watchtower had started an appeal in this case but for some reason did an about face. I have a feeling the appeals attorneys that Watchtower was using knew they weren't going to win and convinced Watchtower to end it.
  

  I would love to know more about the facts and the terms Watchtower finally agreed to, but considering the organization's determination to never let settlements be known publicly I doubt we will ever know.

  my wife and i have recently gotten hooked on the history channel's series, vikings.

  (my wife is full blooded norwegian....).

  to be honest, the show is quite graphic in spots, but certainly no more so than a history book i own of the same time period.. anyhow, we made the mistake of mentioning the show if front of jw's last night and they were all thoroughly shocked that we watch it.. i tried pointing out that big chunks of the ot are not materially different and that even the confrontation between david and goliath would get an 'r' rating if it were visually portrayed in any detail at all.

  Have they always been this way?

  I believe their shock comes from having a superior attitude. Witnesses will find fault with anything, even when they are guilty of the same thing themselves.

  Your point about violence in the OT was absolutely right, and a good thing to bring up in my opinion.

  i remember reading a post on here that a judge had reached a decision on the frank otuo been disfellowshipped on the grounds of fraud.

  if i remember correctly (and i have been wrong in the past) the decision was to be read out this friday.

  There are much, much worse ways of putting your tax dollars to work.

  To protect victimized children from a religious group that doesn't care, it's worth it. Money well spent !!!

  The child sex abuse royal commission will hold a public hearing into controversial Christian group the Jehovah's Witnesses, next month.

  The public hearing will be streamed live to the public via webcast on the Royal Commission’s website.

  I think it would make a much bigger impact on current J-dubs if they had to watch a branch rep (or similar) try to explain and defend the WT's policies in front of a TV camera.

  I wonder which high ranking Watchtower official will refuse to appear this time.

  Think of Gerrit Losch's refusal to comply with a court order to appear in the recent Jose Lopez case in San Diego, using the lame excuse "I don't answer to Watchtower."

  More importantly he was, at the same time, refusing to comply with the Bible...

  But when they bring YOU in before public assemblies and government officials and authorities, do not become anxious about how or what YOU will speak in defense or what YOU will say; 12 for the holy spirit will teach YOU in that very hour the things YOU ought to say.” Luke 12:12
  

  These men (G.B.) would tell Jehovah's Witnesses that they must "take every opportunity to give a thorough witness," while cowering themselves when they have an opportunity to do just that.
  

  The Governing Body's lack of public participation in child molesting issues tells me that Watchtower officials don't really believe they are 'guided by holy spirit' at all.

  This fact alone should be an eye opener for sincere Jehovah's Witnesses everywhere.

  so being around this cult, i always found it interesting that the rest of christianity use ad/bc and the non christians use bce/ce.

  i never put two and two together.

  but, it dawned on me that once again there is hidden proof that the witness cult is and anti-christ cult.
