UN officials hope observance of International Year will lead to Israeli-Palestinian peace
16 January 2014 – The United Nations today launched the International Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, with senior officials urging that the observance be used to redouble efforts to achieve a durable peace between Israel and Palestine.
“The coming year will be crucial to achieving the two-State solution,” Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson said in his remarks to the UN General Assembly’s Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.
Mr. Eliasson said Israeli and Palestinian negotiators are working hard towards a peaceful, comprehensive settlement of all permanent status issues. That means a settlement that ends the occupation that started in 1967 and which would end the conflict.
It also means securing an independent, viable and sovereign State of Palestine living alongside a secure State of Israel, where each side recognizes the other’s legitimate rights, he added.
“The Secretary-General and I urge all in the international community to work together to translate the solidarity and desire for peace expressed on this occasion into positive action for security and for justice.”
Last November, the General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming 2014 as the International Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, and requested the Committee to organize activities around the observance.
General Assembly President John Ashe told today’s meeting that he hoped the Year leads to “robust” support for the people of Palestine. “I am sure I speak for many when I say that I hope the Year helps foster an atmosphere of dialogue and mutual understanding between the two sides of this decades-long conflict,” he said.
“We live in an international context that requires cooperation among all parties, entities and beings to find solutions to the challenges facing the human family. There are no exceptions; Israel and Palestine must find agreement on the conditions in which they can live side by side in peace and security.”
UN officials, including Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, have noted that 2014 could be a an important year in the Middle East peace process, if both sides are willing to take bold steps and refrain from actions that undermine progress in the peace talks that resumed last year.
“Now is the time for vision, compromise and deepening of respect. Let us make this year – 2014 – the decisive year for achieving peace between Israel and Palestine,” said Mr. Ashe. “I implore all those who have a stake in this outcome – Governments, international organizations, and people everywhere – to do their part.”

in all of the events that have happened since 2000 (for example, september 11th), have you at any point, even you die-hard apostates, felt like "oooh sh!t... i should go back to the kh"... just to have the world survive the latest disaster?.

There is nothing significant about a blood moon.
It is slightly noteworthy that it happens on the passover.
It is still interesting that Titus made his AD70 attack on Jerusalem on Passover and it was a passover with an eclipse of the moon AND it also was April 14.
The real eye catcher would be if prior to April 14 Israel and Palestine achieved a significant breakthrough in the struggle for peace along with a lot of fanfare and public display.
At that point you might want to watch out for the other shoe to drop.
My stomach would be churning at that point. And though few here would admit it most on this board would have some second thoughts.

I am an atheist.
But I admit to the possibility of other sentient material life forms who may be able to utilize the Many Worlds Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics and travel to an infinite number of universes just an instant in time away from our universe.
What do big brother sentient beings do? Since cooperation is necessary for a culture to evolve to its highest potential (you either get along or kill each other) these big brothers of the universe jump around making subtle adjustments that help other sentient entities evolve.
The payoff for the big brothers is the marvelous products that can emerge from the interconnecting minds of trillions of beings. Perhaps the ability to create new universes by utilizing energy of galaxy clusters - WHATEVER. Use your imagination.
Perhaps a "personal god" is a placeholder for cooperation. Utilizing the natural desire for survival built into competing species these entities "bribe" us mortals into acutally believing we will live forever as long as we love (cooperate) with one another. Everlasting life is a trick to make us willing to sacrifice for the good of the whole.
That's where I start to worry. None of us are important. We are all expendable because there are an infinite number of experiments going on with an infinite number of Bobs, Teds, Carols and Alices that work as modules. In this SciFi like universe progress is made by jettisoning our selfish desires for status, food, sex, which all are the basis for war but have been essential to climb the ladder of sentience.
You get a group of people and tell them they are special. You eventually send a special envoy who tells them that they aren't special. They kill him. This impresses people. He becomes the model of self-sacrifice. Since no nation is special there is no need to kill others. You let all the "special" people create a terrible world and bring it to the edge of destruction. The people who aren't special actually become unique because they survive the destruction because of their worldwide brotherhood based on self-sacrifice. The world is shaken by the chaos but impressed by the survival of those who cooperate and have self-sacrificing love.
Everyone learns the lesson. At that point the big brothers let them start associating with the more advanced societies of the cosmos.
Back to why I worry. Since everlasting life is just a gimmick I'm not really going to live forever as promised. I will either die for the good of all or just die anyway.
"It may be you will be hid on the day of Jehovah's anger."
But then none of it matters on a personal level because there are an infinite number of each of us moving along some continuum somewhere.

NO IMAGE OF THE BEAST IN REVELATION CHAPTER 17
The Watchtower says that the beast with seven heads and ten horns in Revelation Chapter 17 must be the image of the the two horned beast in Revelation Chapter 13.
If you read Revelation 17 there is no mention of the "image of the beast." It simply speaks of a scarlet beast with seven heads and ten horns. So how can the assertion be made that there is an identity between the "image of the beast" and the scarlet colored beast. Since it never mentions the "image of the beast" in Revelation 17 you can't make that claim.
The Watchtower makes a simple error to arrive at this conclusion. Since the Scarlet Beast "looks like" the beast in Revelation 13 it is believed it is therefore "the image" of the Revelation 13 beast. But there is a simpler reason the beast of Revelation 17 looks like the beast of Revelation 13. It is because they both resemble their power source which is Satan the Devil who in Revelation 12:3 is described as having Seven heads and ten horns.
Since Revelation 17 specifically calls the beast a "beast" we must assume that the beast is what it is named a "beast." Not the "image" of the beast. Because the beast of Revelation 13 and the beast of Revelation 17 are homologous in structure you can make a better case that the beast of Revelation 17 is the same as the beast of Revelation 13. Not only are they similar in structure but they both go through a similar cycle of death and rebirth.

that was 42 years ago.. they did this with a special awake in october of 1972. they devoted the full issue to the subject.
it rivals the infamous "is it later than you think" special awake of october 8 1968 in its grandiose predictions.. the october 8 issue of awake 1972 is must reading in view of the latest discussion of peace and security.. here are a few exerpts with the grandiose statements in red.

The first one "Peace and Security" came out in 1973 on the heels of their 1972 presumption that the world was on the verge of declaring peace and security. In fact they refer to what they felt was significant to them:
"World leaders today are confidently foretelling the entry of a ‘new era’ in world history. They say that the threat of global war and nuclear destruction is past. Why? Because, they declare, a dramatic change in relations between the world’s great powers is bringing in a time of peace and security such as the world has never seen. In January of 1973 a prominent statesman said: “We have made a breakthrough toward creating in the world what the world has not known before—a structure of peace that can last, not merely for our time, but for generations to come.” Paragraph 3 Chapter 1
No Peace. No sudden destruction. Then 13 years later they came out with almost the same book only this one they called TRUE Peace and Security. I suppose this is contrast to the earlier book which turned out to actually be FALSE Peace and Security.This version replaced the old anouncement of peace and security with the latest flavor in the same paragraph 3 Chapter 1.
"An interesting Bible prophecy stated that the time would come when world leaders would actually proclaim “peace and security!” In fact, when the United Nations declared 1986 an “International Year of Peace” it asked that organizations everywhere make a special effort from that year on to promote the goal of “peace, international security and cooperation.”
That declaration wasn't followed by destruction and we are now 27 years from that dud of a prediction.
All of this calls into question how Holy Spirit is supposed to function. If the organization is directed by "Holy Spirit" why do imperfect men always overide that direction by jumping the gun?
They would apologetically say "Some, including writers of Watchtower publications, made mistakes".
If there really were some predicted peace and security would the Watchtower get it right? Or at this point have they used up all their bullets?

Consider this:
Peace in Israel has been an issue since the UN pushed the Palestinians out of the way to make room for Israel. It is ironic that an organization meant to end war set the stage for one of the most chronic cases of endless conflict with international consequences.
It now looks like a comprehensive peace between Israel and Palestine will be accomplished. It has a high priority. Peace will be achieved because Israels main benefactor - the United States can't afford Israel anymore especially the consequences and distraction of international terrorism. The United States is entering a period where they don't need a base of operations to protect the oil in the middle east. There is no longer a benefit for the costs. Europe still needs mid-east oil so they would also like the conflict there to end.
The stated goal of the negotiators is to achieve their goal in April of this year.
So, let's say they obtain a peace agreement of historical significance in Israel in the month of April.
Maybe in time to precede the memorial on April 14
There is an eclipse of the moon on memorial this year. That will be a blood moon which historically is associated with war. Memorial of 2015 will be another blood moon.
Add this into the picture. Titus began his final assault on Jerusalem on Passover 70 Ad. The passover in 70 AD was also on April 14 and there was an eclipse of the moon on that occasion.
