I could be mistaken, but I thought he talking about the Superdome. But still the Superdome or the Convention Center,,,,,,,why did Fema not know the conditions at either place?

What is WRONG with people? (Looters, shooters, et al)
by AlmostAtheist ini'm sitting here in awe, just having read that evacuation helicopters are reporting being shot at in louisiana.
shot at.. looters are seeing an opportunity to take goods that will probably be destroyed or paid for by insurance anyway.
it's dirty and nasty and wrong, but i can live with it.

I understand what you are saying,,,,,,,so the police are scared , and rightly so , so why not get the military in there sooner?

Uh, this is a massive disaster. I think the relief agencies are doing the best they can. Jeesh.
The point I was making was they are saying they basically had no clue.........no clue at all how bad things are. I can see it taking a bit of time to get things.......but to say what he did is irresponsible to say the least. It is FEMA's freakin' job to open their eyes and dig even deeper for the true state of things than the average Joe watching CNN.

Katrina Aftermath - whatever happened to personal responsibility?
by EscapedLifer1 inok, all you "bleedin' hearts" get ready to flame me..... i have been watching the developments in the devastated areas like everyone else, and something has begun to strike me.
there seems to be tens of thousands of people who are just sitting around waiting for help to miraculously drop out of the sky, and the longer they sit idle, the madder they get that the government hasn't swooped in and immediately solved all their problems.
i have a few questions about this mindset:.

I personally would rather sit on my own roof with my survival kit for two weeks than to sit in a angry crowd of thousands of hungry/thirsty people.
I would have walked out of that damn Superdome two days ago........ I swear, kids and all and took my chances on the road out of there.
I saw some interviewed who were doing just that,, walking the heck out of there. I might die on the way but at least I wouldnt be a sitting duck waiting to die.

Live news coverage of woman calling from inside the Superdome , explaining the conditions. A 10 yr old child was almost raped, two broken ankels, a 13 year old she said also raped. Bodies everywhere, violence rampant.
She said there are no police in sight there,,,,,,,,,no authority at all.
It is after 7 pm, where are the police, when will the military get there..........I am just sick.

My husband's comment on the hurricane looters.
by wordlywife inall he said as we watched a little of it last night, is "and that's in the heart of the 'bible belt' of america".......... to me it was a put down of the south, and completely devoid of any understanding.
all i said was: "these people down there have nothing to begin with".
as in another thread, i cannot believe my eyes when i see these thugs are terrorizing hosptials, rescue efforts, etc.

I think the problem was there before the storm, some are taking advantage of it to get away with anything. New Orleans is one of the worst places as far as drugs, gands, violence in the US.

(((((((Dave and Son))))) This is good news. Order has to be accomplished and quick.
I live in the Shreveport/Bossier Louisiana area, five hours north from New Orleans we are on the hurricane route out. We have our motels jammed full with evacuees .
The Shreveport Fire Department is sending 55 of our firefighters down to Slidell , Louisiana to search and rescue. We are told to donate bottled water, gatoraid and foods they can grab and eat on the run . As many of the firefighters will not take a break, go as long as they physically can. It reminds me of the attitudes of the firefighters on 9/11,, going the extra mile to help anyone.
The bugs are bad here and it is soooo , soo hot still.
God bless ones like your Son,,,,,,,,,,,hugs Dede
