Then how come I knew it? I haven't even been watching television...just reading information online. I also haven't been glued to my computer scouring every possible news source. Just a couple of articles with pictures and quotes was all it took to know they had a real mess on their hands there. I feel so bad for all those trapped there, workers and refugees both, that it makes me sick to my stomach.

    Yeah Luna-

I don't own a TV, and from assorted CNN (on the web) videos I was convinced of the nightmare at hand (days ago!) at the Superdome. Each day it has become worse. So if FEMA didn't know, who in Washington knows anything, about anything? Piss poor people in powerful jobs. (PPPIPJ)

I swear I would not have believed he said that, but Paula Zahn, asked him again of what he said .

    Our government hard at work......not

I have kept this on my pc for several years......see if the shoe fits!

The following Dakota tribal tale probably sums it up best:

Dakota tribal wisdom says that when you discover you are riding a
dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount. However, government
bureaucracies often try other strategies with dead horses, including
    the following:

    1. Buying a stronger whip.
    2. Changing riders.
    3. Saying things like "This is the way we always have ridden this
    horse."
    4. Arranging to visit other sites to see how they ride dead horses.
    5. Increasing the standards to ride dead horses.
    6. Appointing a committee to study the dead horse.
    7. Waiting for the horse's condition to improve from this temporary
    downturn.
    8. Providing additional training to increase riding ability.
    9. Passing legislation declaring "This horse is not dead."
    10. Blaming the horse's parents.
    11. Acquiring additional dead horses for increased speed.
    12. Declaring that "No horse is too dead to beat."
    13. Providing additional funding to increase the horse's performance.
    14. Commissioning a study to see if private contractors can ride it
    cheaper.
    15. Removing all obstacles in the dead horse's path.
    16. Taking bids for a state-of-the art dead horse.
    17. Declaring the horse is "better, faster and cheaper" dead.
    18. Revising the performance requirements for horses.
    19. Saying the horse was procured with cost as an independent
    variable.
    20. Raising taxes (any excuse will do).

    And if all else fails:

    21. Promote the dead horse to a supervisory position

    What, were people dying there?

Uh, this is a massive disaster. I think the relief agencies are doing the best they can. Jeesh.

3 days of no drinking water or food is not doing "the best they can."

people have been waiting to be evacuated for that long. and yes, some are dying.

but don't take my word for it.

hopefully we'll never have to face that kind of situation. but if we do, would you be satisfied with "they are doing the best they can"? I don't think I would be!

    oops

Didn't realize things were so bad

    damn
    (feeling silly)
Edited again to add: MAN I am feeling really stupid and insensitive for what I posted before. I just turned on the TV for the first time today - I knew things were bad in NO but I didn't realize just how bad things have gotten. Wow.

    Damn.

    So they didn't know huh?

Wow, I guess this means that I have a much better information gathering infrastructure in place... I like to call it TV.

FEMA Leadership needs to be FIRED. Bush's back-door buddies have slid by far too long.

The point I was making was they are saying they basically had no clue.........no clue at all how bad things are. I can see it taking a bit of time to get things.......but to say what he did is irresponsible to say the least. It is FEMA's freakin' job to open their eyes and dig even deeper for the true state of things than the average Joe watching CNN.
