Oz, I wish him success as well, but I liken it to having a crazy nutjob advance your cause. If this guy is the one they see, it tinges any other efforts in the eyes of the people that need to be convinced. Basically, even if your goal is preventing child abuse, you probably want to get a different spokesman than Charlie Sheen. You don't want the people you need to hear the message to have to wade through the crazy to get to your message because they won't. You have probably 30 seconds to get their interest to move forward, not 30 hours for them to read that doc that starts out with "wade through my crazy first". Instant dismissal and then association of the crazy with the next person to stand up and present your case, even if the next person is James Earle Jones because they are still thinking of Charlie Sheen.

Having balls of cast iron and being a nut in no way mean he should be supported. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

[Edited to add] Aussie, family-wise, I am in the same boat you are, so I have a ton of sympathy and follow your story closely as I am a few years behind you in terms of what to expect. I agree with your sentiments and wishes, just .....not that this guy should be the champion for the cause. When I want someone to stand up in court to represent me, I don't care if his heart is in the right place, Gary Busey isn't my first choice.

BTW, the "COMMITTEE OF MANAGEMENT FOR THE RELIGION OF JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES" appears to be something entirely made up by Steve Unthank to mean "the JW's corporate entities".

This is conceivably the most comically bad attempt at a legal briefing I have ever personally seen (and I have seen quite a few, given my profession). He repeats the statue in several places, for some reason posts 10 pages of the program from the local archdiocese to comply, posts some a letter from an elder, posts 10 pages of a letter from the WTS regarding charity work that isn't germaine to the issue, posts the form for the background check in the document, etc., etc. This guy needs to learn to state "Here is the purpose, here are the references for the purpose, here are the relevant excerpts, here is where they in violation based on the above references and documentation, done." This should have been 15 - 20 pages, not 600.

Not one single person in a position to do something about the problem is going to wade through that document, especially after he opens with "The bible authorizes me to speak on God's behalf".

so did the 'da society' give these dub internet savvies permission to start a forum?

because last i checked, the ole boys in their oversized brooklyn bunker didn't want their members on the internet unless it was to view their own official websites.

i thought maybe it was an apostate forum until i read their long winded, typically condescending jdub style membership guidelines:.

I love how pointing out that claims to be able to predict the future in God's name by using their own publications is now their standard for "extremism". What a laughable bunch of wingnuts.

And as if you have look back 100 years. Just look back to the 80's when they said before the century was over that God would conclude this system of things.

I wonder how many things you have claimed in your life? Too bad we dont have it recorded, published, and then thrown to a group who makes their ministry into a nit-picking party.

Since wasblind isn't claiming to be speaking on God's behalf and leading 7 million people, it hardly rises to the same standard. (Plus, you can always look at all of was' posts on the forum and start doing the same thing yourself, but that would take intellectual work, something you apologists abhor).

CJ, cookies are for the great unwashed heathens, cake for the atheists and other assorted and sundry pastries for the evolutionists. They all have milk in them and God said in our holy bible that milk was for the spiritual children. As we all know, children are usually wrong and should be seen and not heard.

As god also said meat was for the mature, the only acceptable pastry for the spiritually mature is a meat pastry, like Beef Wellington. Analagously (remember, BTW, that you can't make an analogy without starting with "anal"), since meat is for the mature, god highly blesses medium rare grilled bone in ribeye steaks. Since that tops off a day of golf perfectly and pairs so well and is topped off nicely with a good scotch and cigar, we can infer that god also blesses those activities.

Same thing for grilling brats, italian sausages and tailgating at football games. Really it's all very clear once you realize that God blesses all activities associated with the maturity of enjoying the meat in it's due season.

Steve Unthank is a nut. While his goals are noble, the cover letter will make any prosecutor or representative roll their eyes and move to to ignore the next nut that claims to have authority to represent God and Jesus in court. Excerpt:

Yeah, when you open your case with "God has authorized me to represent him, Jesus and the Holy spirit and oh, let me cite some vague scriptures that I claim give me this authority", you can pretty much be sure your case has already been flushed down the toilet.

I have no clue what your trying to say, and I am not even sure you understand what point I am trying to make. The above makes no sense and isnt on topic. Maybe I missed something?

Because there is a difference between being led by HOLY SPIRIT (or directed) and being INSPIRED by HOLY SPIRIT.

I think some are "guilted" into Preaching work, but I think many others sincerely feel they are doing GOD's work by finding converts for the WTS. Or they do it because it allows for socialization.

There you go folks, the JW apologist miss things, make distinctions without difference and go out in service 1/3 of the time because of guilt and 1/3 of the time for social reasons. Even if they are just led by the holy spirit, whatever the fark THAT means, it's doing a piss poor job of leading them.

Above is a very deep thought. Hard to fully grasp because nothing we know of exists in our span of space and time that can possibly be over all, through all and in all. Yet that is what the bible says God is.

Actually, you said God doesn't exist in our spacetime, you earlier you said "God always existed. He is not made of matter and thus does not need a begining point of existance. He is a spirit. He is eternal and is outside our stream of time".

So, God exists in our spacetime and is "over all", but doesn't, he's over all matter and creation, but isn't matter. He is, but he isn't. You are also presuming that matter requires a beginning point for creation. I could just as easily assert that matter also requires not beginning point for existence. Your point about God isn't hard to grasp, it's simply ridiculous. How do you know a spirit isn't made of matter or energy? It seems that you are using a basic grasp of science and reading it into the bible and asserting that the ancient redactors were suggesting what you are reading into the texts.

Why is it you put so much stock in the bible? BTW, I want to address something you said earlier. You said the dead sea scrolls proved the bible had changed little from the original manuscripts. That is a fallacy. It would require that we have the originals to compare to, which we don't. Analagously, I could say that finding my mothers recipe for coconut cake proved that my recipe was close to my lost great grandmother's recipe, but since I don't have my great grandmothers recipe to compare against, it in no way proves that at all.

But I also realize that I dont have the right to treat people like they are below me, nor justify juvenile behavior just because I disagree with JW's about thier interpretations.

Sure you do. If someone is willfully ignorant and prideful of that ignorance and yet claiming to be smart and the best kind of person, then if they get treated like dog poop they have willfull brought it on themselves.

And don't play the interpretations game. They are just wrong on that, it's the willful ignorant and cult behavior that is destructive and for that they deserve ridicule and pity if they won't open their eyes.

And the answer to the justification isn't "Jehovah's Witnesses", it's "dangerous high control cult".

They are still people just like you.
