Did any of you need counselling or psychotherapy as a JW?
by TimothyT ini have just started my new course to be a qualified counsellor.
naturaly i am studying this because of my own background and now i want to help others who have had similar strains on their lives.. i know the pressure that the jw organisation puts on its members, so i was wondering, if you dont mind saying so of course, did any of you attend counselling sessions due to the pressures and problems that the jw life brought along?.
i can imagine that the majority of my old congregation (myself, my dad and my brother included) would need some form of counselling or medication in order to remain sane.

Thanks everyone for your comments.
I know first hand what it is like to feel opressed by the borg, but the worst thing about it is when you are trapped in limbo and you dont even know where the pressure is coming from. Naturaly, you deny that it is the organisation which is causing it as you firmly want to believe that this is the truth and that Jesus is leading you. I pity those poor brothers and sisters who i knew that suffer terribly with anxiety, stress, and depression, but have no idea that perhaps the cause of it all is being part of this organisation. Even if they realise it, they cant change it because of threats of losing family, friends and spirituality. For the sake of my own health and life, I had to leave. Simple as that!
I think its great that many of you had counselling after you left the borg as this has helped you to make sense of it all and to fill that gap with reason and understanding. Well done to you. :) For those who had counselling when a JW, it seems to me that they view counselling sessions as a way to vent their feelings. They know that if they speak about such things to an elder (who would socialy take on the role of counsellor) they risk being disfellowshipped. I guess bottling up these feelings for so long makes things worse.
Isnt it disgusting how the Watchtower has trapped millions of people in their own minds?

This course 'can lead to cynicism'!
Thats right... that is exactly what it has led the WTS to be of this issue - negative, distrustful, and disparaging.
What a bad example they are for us to follow. I think i personaly should be more open and accepting of others than they are, after all thats what a proper Christian does. :) -

I told the baptist church pastor that I'm gay!
by TimothyT inhis reaction wasnt as liberal as i hoped it would be.
he said that we needed to discuss it.
however, gone are the days where im putting myself in the firing line and not sticking up for myself.

Thats exactly what i said.
"Nurture has a lot to play in the matter, but from my own personal thoughts and experience i feel this trait is deeply ingrained in me and has been since before i can remember (nature)"
I believe the feeling was inborn in me, but no doubt that i and others have somehow nurtured my own feelings and desires. I do tend to lean towards the nature side though.

Thanks for all the comments everyone! I still havnt made up my mind if i want to go and speak to the pastor yet! I dont feel i need to at all!
If i dont, i will try another church and the first question i will ask will be about sexuality! I would want to nip it in the bud straight away and know if i will be accepted or if there will be issues later on.
Some nice comments here and im very interested in what the bible says on sexuality. It has occured to me that God is not partial and i believe this also includes issues such as homosexuality. I remember one sister say to me that its similar to an illness which makes you do things you wouldnt normaly want to do and Jehovah understands it. Although i dont like it being compared to an illness i see what she says when Jehovah wouldnt reject me just as much as he wouldnt reject someone with an illness which permanantly affects their lives for example.
I take comfort in the fact that God reads hearts and knows who i am, what im thinking, and what i desire, even when little humans struggle so much with this. Thanks to those of you who have helped and understood me here. I appreciate your thoughts! :)

If it makes any difference, i knew i was gay from a young age and i didnt feel any previous kind of stimulus to make me want to be gay. My brother and I had a wonderfuly balanced upbringing, yet he is straight and im not. Personaly i feel nurture has a lot to play in the matter, but from my own personal thoughts and experience i feel this trait is deeply ingrained in me and has been since before i can remember (nature)!
Very true Mary... plus one can be a homo and be mentaly diseased remember! :) Im sure in there books im worthy of double death! :)

Are you a member of the homosexual community? (Yes.) Can you say that you have honestly found satisfaction and fulfillment in that way of life? (Being true to myself has brought me great happiness yes. Similarly meeting someone i love and who loves me has made me very happy.) Thousands of homosexuals have learned in the hard way that the “gay life” is not gay. (Im sure they have. Im sure many straight people have also had their fair share of troubles too.) Their course, says homosexual William Carroll, “can lead to cynicism, despair and even suicide.” (Im sure it CAN, but that doesnt nescesarily mean it WILL. On the other hand, if many DONT choose this course it CAN lead to suicide. Explain that one WT?) Why let that happen to you? (Exactly! We all want the best life and we cant base it on assumptions and weasel words such as 'can'.) Why not change course like those first-century homosexuals and really enjoy life? (I am enjoying life too much now and I dont want to revert to depression and suicidal feelings. Ta!)

"JehovahsWitnesses do not try to predict when God will destroy the wicked."
by stillstuckcruz insorry i pressed enter on the last topic by mistake.
anyway, in the new december 1st, public edition of the wt, in an article titled "will the earth survive 2012?
" an actual paragraph says this:.

They insist they dont try to predict when the end is coming, but at conventions and meetings, all you hear is: "ITS SOOOO CLOSE BROTHERS! CLOSER NOW THAN ITS EVER BEEN!" Is that itself not a prediction of the end?
