i dont know if i have mentioned it in any previous posts, but i am a metis.
metis are people of mixed indian and non-indian descent.
we form a distinct national / cultural group in canada, with our own history, or own identity and culture, and our own political movements.
I think the native peoples of the Americas have been fighting to keep their culture for a long, long time now.
They are not going to give up what they have managed to save, after all these years of fighting against having their culture 'assimilated'. By now, they can smell a 'converter' long before they see him. The west has promised them 'paradise' before. It was a load of crap.

mom was here today and evening, stayed for dinner, and we talked about the services for henry.
she wants there to be a portion of the service where people in attendance can tell things they want to say about him.

when i was separating from my wife and leaving the jws, i had some visions.
for some strange reason, i decided not to eat for a day, then when i found my thinking clearer and my emotions mellower, i fasted for another two days.
so after the third day, i was walking down our street and i saw the houses burning after me, i felt this was an affirmation that marriage was decay and destruction, or wasteage.

How are you doing now? My husband also has a TBI. He fell from a waterfall/cliff while hiking. It took the rescue people hours to get him out of the ravine he had fallen into. That was in '86. Today, he is on SSI and considering returning to work.

i was reading my bible this morning,(some of us still do :) ), and i came across these verses;.
11he is the one who gave these gifts to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.
12their responsibility is to equip gods people to do his work and build up the church, the body of christ, 13until we come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of gods son that we will be mature and full grown in the lord, measuring up to the full stature of christ.. 14then we will no longer be like children, forever changing our minds about what we believe because someone has told us something different or because someone has cleverly lied to us and made the lie sound like the truth.

When I learned about Kohlberg, I read through the "You Can Live Forever" book and found only PRECONVENTIONAL morality!! The whole entire book is preconventional! This is the level of morality used by 5-year-olds!
I agree that many JWs operate on the conventional level of morality, following rules for the good of the group. How sad that this is as far as you can develop morally, and stay within the Borg.
It seems that the higher your morality develops, the less likely you will stay a JW!

This was a really interesting post. I’m surprised more people haven’t made replies to it.
I am out of the org, so this isn’t really about me, I guess.
But I do wish to see the reform of the Org, for the people. For the people who may need a blood transfusion. For the people who feel they have no choice but to shun their own families, and for the people who are shunned. For the children who need to grow up, healthy and happy. For the silent lambs.
As for me, I could care less if the Org continues or does not continue. If it does continue, and blood transfusions are no longer banned and shunning is no longer practiced, pedophiles are not shielded, and freedom of speech is allowed, so much pain would be lifted from so many people! What are the chances of this happening?
I would say the chances of this happening are about the same as the chances of the Borg completely being destroyed, maybe a little better. But who cares if the Borg lives or dies? It’s the people who matter. And I can’t think of a more Christian motivation.
The people. God isn’t defined by where one worships, but by how one lives, and loves. The Org is nothing already. It is ‘irrelevant.’ If it changes or goes away makes no difference. If people can be saved from needless pain is what matters, no matter what religion they are. Reminds me of the Good Samaritan in the Bible. Should these people be helped only if they adopt a certain brand of Christianity? No! People should be helped. So this does have a lot to do with God, ‘Jesus Christ, spirituality and true worship’ because isn’t this what the Jesus tells us to do? Help people, regardless of what they believe?

please get the word out that the combined san francisco, marin, and san jose former jw support groups have reserved lindley meadows in golden gate park for their autumn celebration october 7th, 2001. lindley meadows is located on jfk drive in golden gate park (that's near 30th avenue north side of the park).
the event will start at 12:30pm and last until dusk.
Hummmmmmmmmmm..........will I be brave enough??
I don't know...Maybe if my mom goes with me...
And there is a San Jose support group? Does anyone have any info about this?

i was in the town this morning and saw a little cluster of jws leaving the kingdom hall, clutching their ministry bags, eager to go out into the field service.... well, maybe eager isnt quite the right word.... anyway, i thought to myself - how many people will they convert today?
one, two, a whole family?
the more obvious answer is none at all.
Joel, this is interesting. Got me thinking.
My mom and dad were brought into the Org through the door-to-door work.
Over the years, my parents brought in no one that way. However, they raised three kids who were publishers. My JW sister now has two kids who will soon be publishers. They brought in my aunt, and thus her son. They brought in their best friends (a married couple), and thus their two kids, AND this couple brought in their own parents and one of their aunts.
So all told, that one conversion of a young married couple at the door brought in 16 people to the Org. I don't know if any of the people my parents got in brought anyone else in, but that would raise the total even higher. The word exponential leaps to mind...
Maybe that is why the door-to-door work is so improtant to the Org, hummm?

in another thread, there is a discussion about young people leaving the jws at a rate of something like 88%.
we see the rules given to the sheep for raising their children and we shake our heads saying, dont they get it?
what is wrong with the org that it cant see how they are treating the youth?

hi i've just come home from cleaning windows.what an absolutely soul destroying job.. when i think of the things i could have done.. i remmember how my teachers in school used to tell me i would surely go to university and get a good job.i remmember the shock on one teachers face a few years after i left school when i told her i was a window cleaner.. i was also intrested in art and quite good at it.my grandfather who wasn't a witness offered to help me and my brother get good jobs in the art world.. we turned him down.. arrmegeddon was so soon.. anyone else like me ?.

I hated every day at work. I tried not to, I tired to find the good in the job, but, um, that was a hard thing to do. I sure wished I had gone to college. You are not the only one.
