i was reading the above article by barbara anderson and was struck that, rather than knowing better, the governing body actually believes in this shadowy organization of former members who are out to attack them.
[jaracz] said that the governing body had been preparing for much longer than anybody could guess for an attack by apostates.

by not having dreams and goals outside of the watchtower box and encouraging our children to expand beyond the cult.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=digfo2dgc9y.
Hey, Newly Enlightened, with respect to our dreams and goals and the time spent in the WTS, I like to remember this quote from George Eliot. “It is never too late to be what you might have been.” While we still have life, we can have dreams and goals. There is no reason why we can’t still have fulfilling lives regardless of how much time we have left. That goes for all of us.

obsessive personality disorder.
dsmthe diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders fourth edition, (dsm iv-tr = 301.4), a widely used manual for diagnosing mental disorders, defines obsessivecompulsive personality disorder (in axis ii cluster c) as:[11].
a pervasive pattern of preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism, and mental and interpersonal control, at the expense of flexibility, openness, and efficiency, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by four (or more) of the following:.
For sixteen months I lived with someone who suffered from OCD, obsessive-compulsive-disorder. That was bad enough, but this man also had all the charm of a skunk. Throw his bigotry, homophobia and racism into the mix and you had a miserable example of a human being. But I learned a lot during that time we shared quarters, especially about how fragile all of us are. This man’s problems were compounded by his refusal to believe that he had a problem in the first place.

There may not be as big a difference between the UN taking on the Vatican and the WTS Conti case as you might think, ABibleStudent. That’s because the Conti case is ultimately headed for SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States), and many organizations are watching it closely. It might be another two or three years before that happens but when it does the ruling handed down will have major impact on religious organizations in this country.

Ask your Witness friend if she knows anything about the pedophile case in California (the Candice Conti case) against the Society? I’d be willing to bet dollars to donuts that she doesn’t. This is not to say that attention shouldn’t be paid to the Vatican’s way of handling this serious matter, but the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society is no better. If the Vatican case cited is a jaw-dropping one, so is the ongoing one against the WTS.

imho!!!.
reasons?
just have a look at one or two of my very many favorites from the wt library.
The parallel which Oubliette has drawn between the censorship practices of the WTS and the former USSR is frightfully accurate. But it isn’t just old publications that are being altered or deleted from WTS archives, people have also disappeared.
Here is a cogent example. Many of us can remember when the WTS started producing tapes of the New World Translation. The first tape was the reading of the gospel of John. Ray Franz was the reader. However, after Franz was purged from the Governing Body and subsequently disfellowshipped, the WTS saw fit to issue a new recording of the gospel with a completely different reader.
This kind of censorship is quite old. It was practiced in ancient Egypt when names of those who had lost favor were chiseled out of monuments and removed from papyrus documents, and other regimes have followed suit in the millennia since then. The WTS is doing the same with those who once associated with it but have gone their own ways. The organization is sanitizing its history. The refusal to make all material produced in the twentieth century on its website is part and parcel of this action. Ceasing production of the Watchtower Library CD-ROM would be a logical future step.
The great shame is that all of this censorship is lost on rank-and-file Witnesses. We’re talking about people who are willfully, deliberately and obtusely ignorant. They not only don’t know suspect the bad motives behind the limiting access to old materials but they don’t want to know it either. They have surrendered their free will and power of reason to the cult’s leaders. Denying the past history of Jehovah’s Witnesses and making it unavailable to any questioners is another part of the cloak of tyranny the leadership is wearing.

ok i have been fading fast, missed a lot of meetings over the past couple of months and the kids think its mostly do to my being busy with work.
this morning was probably the first sunday that i was home and could go but did not.
so my 8 year old asked me if i was going and why when i said no.
I really like the answer Jeffro offered. It is honest, simple and direct. There is no need to say something disingenuous like “I’m too busy” or “I’m too tired” or “I’m doing independent Bible study.” You’re telling the truth with no need to embellish it. A child can comprehend it as well as any adult, even one who is very deep into the cult.
That doesn’t mean there won’t be additional problems or questions. But it does mean you don’t have to remember what lie or excuse was used. And the transparency of the response will appeal to anybody who is honest-hearted, children especially.

a comprehensive new book:.
"the good... the bad... the deceptive.... and worse!
an expose".
Writing, as we all know, is an art and not a science, and some of us bring more talent to it than others. I have appreciated the points both Barb Anderson and my friend Oubliette have brought to this thread. I will say that if one goes through the pain and toil of writing a book, he serves his readers very well by having it proofread and edited by someone skilled in these things. Otherwise, he will dilute the impact of his message or story.
Some of us don’t care about the finer points of writing because if we are interested in or captivated by the subject, we will read regardless. Others, like me, are more discriminating in what they take in. If an author is careless with his facts, does not arrange his material well, and is unconcerned with basic grammar and syntax, then I don’t want to read his work. I’m not saying that you have to write like Tolstoy or Hemingway, but at the very least a writer should aspire to think like they and other great authors did. That kind of care and attention to detail will give cut and polish to a work that will win both praise and respect.

its time to outlaw extreme shunning in modern society by: richard e. kelly .
What I would like to see is some kind of collaboration between Barb and BandOnTheRun. I think it would be worthwhile for these two people to lay their heads together on this vital issue. Most of us here want to see an end to the human rights abuses the WTS has practiced for decades. I think we can all agree that negative publicity is what the organization fears most. Can't we get together to initiate the kind of actions that will bring this about?

i've written a blog article on the topic of jw practice of shunning, inspired by a few recent threads on jwn where the results of social psychologist stanley milgram's work on authority figures came into the discussion:.
http://awgue.weebly.com/countering-jw-shunning-how-the-implications-of-stanley-milgrams-work-may-suggest-using-a-different-approach.html.
as usual, the article will be available for reading there, but please discuss over here in this thread.. .
Thanks for this thread. What you shared reminded me of my visit to the Civil Rights Institute in Birmingham, Alabama back in 2004. Among the many features of the Institute are the voice recordings of people who supported the hateful segregation practices in the Jim Crow South. When I listened to their reasoning, I came to understand that these people had attacked not only black people but their own humanity. Their sense of fair play, justice and even human decency had eroded, transforming them into mindless drones who had been easily and shamelessly manipulated into sanctioning evil. Nevertheless, they bore responsibility for their attitudes and actions regardless of how justified they may have felt.
It is likewise with all those who practice the shunning the WTS Governing Body demands its members impose on the disfellowshipped and disassociated. I now realize how I can approach those who are shunning me if and when we ever meet again. As someone who shunned others, I have come to acknowledge the evil I engaged in and the harm I did not just to my targets but to me as well. If shunners understand how corrupt and evil their actions truly are and the effects they have on themselves, they will not only stop doing so, but will probably go further and embrace TTATT to their lasting benefit.
