JWs and Christmas
by Slidin Fast inis it only me or do you think xmas in dubland is getting more and more celebratory.
lots of people get more food in, more booze in fact more of everything.. families get together, they have parties (not too big).
they have more to eat and drink than is good for them.

National Anthems and Such
by Quendi inwell, football season (gridiron for all you commwealth-types) will be here soon and yours truly plans to attend a few games.
i'll also be going to quite a few basketball games when that season starts in november.
in the u.s., the national anthem is played before the start of such events.

Apostasy vs. Heresy

the july 15, 2011 issue of the watchtower and its hard line on "shunning" of the disfellowshipped has generated much discussion on this board.
i thought i would start a thread on a related issue because i would appreciate getting your thoughts on this.. we all know how liberally the wts uses its favorite curse word, apostate, to describe those who have left the organization.

Fred and Jeanie Maes
by Quendi ini cannot recall exactly where on this forum i read this, but there are people on jwn who knew fred maes.
fred had served in brooklyn bethel, i believe, and was also a circuit overseer.
i first met him in 1976 in tuscaloosa, alabama.
