No Baptism For Military - but How About Law Officers?

does the wts sanction baptism of gun carrying law officers?.

does being a cop or prison guard or any other occupation requiring the carrying of a weapon.

disqualify a person from personal dedication to jehovah according to the fds?.

In the local congregation one of the elders is a prison guard in a medium security facility and there is also a sister working as a guard too. In the same congregation there is a brother who is a uniform court officer and he drives prisoners between the jail and the court house. None of them carry guns but they used pepper spray and a telescopic club...They also go through training on how to subdue prisoners. In my home town I heard that a couple who were both police officers left their job so they could get baptized. Of course both were often on assembly programs and they were pioneering...life was so much better! In my wife's former congregation a police detective could not serve as a MS or elder because he carried a gun. He decided to quit his job and work for Trimline so he could get service privileges at the KHall...of course he was in charge of security at large conventions...

I am still in the moment...but it first started when I realized that the WT was misquoting secular sources to support their teachings. Such dishonnesty lead me broaden the scope of my research. Then when the new light on the generation came along and I read the outline for the final talk before attending the 2010 district convention. On that same day we had the WT review and it was also the article discussing the generation! The brother doing the review look very uncomfortable when it came to these 2 infamous paragraphs and he read word for word the explanation from the WT. I just couldn't wait to see the reaction of the audience when the final talk would be given later that day...That was the deal breaker: people applauding, bobbing their head in approval and worse, most not reacting at all. I was looking at all the older ones siting at ground level taking it all in without realizing that their hope to make it through the big A and never dying had just been crushed, that 5 years from now most of them would be dead. I was furious. I asked my wife about it on the way home and she had no clue what I was talking about. At that point I told her that I had been at my last meeting...you can imagine the rest of the drive...

A Brother Died At Bethel

i got a text from my mom when i got into work today saying that a brother i've known for a while had died.

he was a bethelite and they found him dead in his room.

he was the same age as me.

Usually when the cause of death is suicide everyone tries to keep it under cover because no one knows how everyonelse is going to react to the news. We had 2 suicides in the neighbouring congregation, a young man in his early 20's and a pioneer girl in her late 20's. Both had a talk at the KHall. Back home one of my best friends committed suicide 5 years ago. There was also a talk. In all cases they blamed it on depression and they were victims of Satan's world. I am very sad the see such desperation in young ones especially those who appear to be really happy in the congregation...that's what happens when you're taught to keep your doubts and negative feelings to yourself. If you confide in someone the solution always lies in doing more in service, praying more, waiting on Jehovah and hanging in there because the new system is sooooo close.

I haven't made it official yet...but my sibblings know. My elderly mom may not yet know but the last time she called she only spoke to my wife who is still active. I just found out that they are all planning to visit us in the next few months. They all live 300 miles away and they will be staying in our home for a few days. My wife's JW relatives have also said they may come and visit...So I don't pray before meals and I won't go the the meetings with them...I'm sure that will shock some of them since I was probably to most active JW of the bunch.

i remember when friends would say something like "you wouldn't want to lose out on everlasting life over something so small, would you?

" this would usually be said to you when you were doing some little thing you weren't supposed to be doing as a jw... like watching an r-rated movie... having a beard.

i'm sure we've all heard it.. the thing that i've realized is that it works both ways.

I agree....the blanket is always pulled in the same direction. My wife put on our fridge a message found in a fortune cookie that said: Do not let anyone stop you from doing what you believe is right. She was trying to let me know that I shouldn't attempt to pull her away from the "truth". When I saw the message I thanked her for no longer trying to stop me from doing what I believe is right (leaving the JWs)...you should have seen her face! A few days later the message disapeared...

i started a thread a few days ago that probably went unnoticed for the most part (under "scandals & cover-ups") regarding steve hitting selma in tomorrow's wt study... i just wanted to recap it here for those who may have missed it.... the spanish version changes the story completely.... if you've read that paragraph 12 it basically says that steve hit selma as she tried to prove a point.

selma then feels sorry for herself.. in the spanish version steve merely gets furious with her and she gets sad.. by the way, i just looked up the italian version... .

Wha...the way I am going to bring this up with my wife is that 5 years ago we had a brother live with us for a year because his (bipolar) wife kicked him out of their home because he was abusive...the elders sided with her and gave us a hard time for having him under our roof. When they went to court she had to admit he never touched her and that the "abuse" was verbal...still she could not even recall anything in particular! According to the WT "new light" she should have stayed with her husband even if he smacked her around...this couple was married 15 years...2 years short of the exemple in the article...
