My associations though are selective. I do have friends out of the faith, but they have their family's to keep themselves busy. They still call us, and we call them.

It's still too early in the morning for all these questions, and I haven't had my coffee yet.
last week wednesday at about 11:40 pm, on a cold and rainy night, my uncle breathed his last breath.
he was at hospice and he was alone.
alone because the whole family was there the previous night saying their goodbyes.

the reason i ask is that i have a coupe of cousins who are still jws who have gone gambling in casinos with us.
i have a brother-in-law who openly brags about his "perfect" blackjack strategy he employs in vegas when he's in town.. i know that growing up as a jw, gambling of any kind was a dfing offense.. is my jw family simply more liberal than most, or has there been a subtle shift in this area since i've been out?.
If a person got DF'd for that, I would hope that the WT society wouldn't benefit from the proceeds, or interest earned from those winnings.

one of our last co visits, he was railing on the apostates who can't just shut up and be quiet.

I remember that the Organization Book had a section in it that allowed Elders to walk away, and step down from their Elder position on a personal decision. This later on got removed. I asked a CO about it during the time, and he acted like I was crazy, and it just wasn't there when the ORG bk got revised. Since then the ORG bk got revised again, and there it magically reappeared.
That is really hopeful for the ORG to allow this gentle breakaway. Their is this fading out that appears in the new Elders Manual, but it also states that family can't have dealings with such ones.
The ORG is afraid of loosing control over their people, and will never give this up unless, we have a protest such as a magnitude of Wall St, or in Egypt. That won't be in my lifetime, unfortunately.

Kind of calming article and lacked a little bit of spike to it. Had some really tense articles recently that required me to increase some of my blood pressure medication, but now I'm back to normal.
