Agreed, I don't even pay attention to John 1:1 anymore, as there are so many other facets of Christs divinity that are displayed throughout the NT, especially in what he did, and how the NT applies tons of stuff from YHWH in the OT to him. But, if you find Christs' deity, and you acknowledge the Holy Spirit is a person, I'm not sure else that leaves you, other than the Trinity.

The Trinity
by The Quiet One ini have a question, primarily for trinitarians, but anyone's more than welcome to comment.
what scriptural basis is there for believing in the trinity?
i can understand some having the view that jesus/jehovah both can be worshipped, and the view that jesus should be, but where in the bible is the holy spirit worshipped?

@WontLeave : As ex-JW, I read the NT without any preconceptions, and I did find evidence of the Trinity. I'm not totally convinced, but the evidence is there, at least of Christs deity.
Edit : and at least know now where Trinitarians are coming from, which is 1/2 the battle of discussing something.

For John 1:18, my HCSB translation claims that earlier manuscripts do not support the "only-begotten God" translation, so they stick with the 'only-begotten Son' in that verse..

@ The Quiet One : I'm currently not a trinintarian, yet the mirror that Jesus is provides of YHWH of the Old Testament is quite remarkable. They share many, many titles, abilities and traits etc. Of course, Jesus being a mirror of God is supported by the Bible ("who has seen me, has seen the Father also"), ("the image of God"), ("the exact representation of his [God] being"). Now some will say that Jesus is just that; only a mirror, and not the genuine article. Yet, coming from a strictly Jewish background, if you even remotely insinuated what Jesus said about himself and his relationship with God, you'd be stoned to death for blasphey, and many people of his time tried on multiple occasions. Thus, the only way to reconcile fairly early views of Jesus (outside of the Bible, early Christian writings definitely viewed Jesus as God) with a monotheistic faith is the Trinity doctrine.

"Drugs are demonic, mmmmkay?"
by Mr. Falcon ini hope everyone is having a wonderful summer filled with district conventions and auxillary pioneering.
just kidding, let's talk drugs.. as a kid growing up in the mid-80's and through the 90's, we had all kinds of lame, pointless anti-drug programs at school.
the most common one was the d.a.r.e.

A classic pro-pot scripture : 1 Tim 4:4,5 : "The reason for this is that every creation of God is fine, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 for it is sanctified through God’s word and prayer over [it]."
If God created the herb, He knew what He was doing.

I'm trying to be.. I started a P90-like (*not* p90x - nowhere near ready for that yet) program a few weeks ago, and so far it's kicking my ass suitably.. thankfully, I have no problem eating well, so hopefully the weight (and lots of it) will come off over the summer and winter..

2 Points to think about ..
The first is since you're still having doubts about whether the JW's are right or wrong, you have to become comfortable with the idea of simple non-existence. It isn't suicidal or anything like that, but there is the chance that this life is all there is and all what it is. You live and you die. Whether you die naturally or God Himself strikes you down for not being a JW (in that theology), is non-existence really all that scary? Myself, I'm OK with that idea.
The other point is that people can tell you all day long that JW's are wrong, but I think as mentioned in this thread, you need to absolutely prove it to yourself. Look on Ebay and grab a copy of the 1969 Kingdom Interlinear (the purple one); read another translation or preferably a few side by side with the NWT. You'll see and *know* that they have lied about lots of things, and maybe then the doubts will go away. Once I did that, I now KNOW, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are in fact liars and twisters of words.
